Everything that undergoes change has a history and can be studied historically. Historians are more directly and personally concerned with changes involving human beings, as individuals and as groups, and the interactions of these humans with one another and with the physical environment. Change is inevitable. But history also shows that people will resist too much change if it comes too quickly. So, history is also the study of resistance to change, or phrased positively, of continuity. Evolution is more pervasive than revolution. Profound changes take place very slowly, in part because we would not have it any other way.
