Hi Peter,
I wanted to reach out to you today in regards to your PHP background. My client in the
western suburbs is looking for a LAMP Developer with CodeIgniter for a 4+ month
contract. Must be a US citizen.
They are seeking a candidate that has experience building web applications using
PHP in an enterprise environment using both MySQL and Oracle databases. The
contracting resource will collaborate closely with staff in the assessment, analysis and
requirements gathering for the project and will assist in 1) devising and inserting IT-
based tools to replace more manual procedures within and between existing
applications and 2) adding a user-friendly, user-specific, feature-laden portal that
encompasses all of the web-based office applications. Are you currently open to new

  1. Despite the fact that we are calling passive candidates “passive”, these type of candidates are more interested in new opportunities than you might think. They just aren’t going to be going out of their way to actively look for new jobs, but might consider an opportunity if it appeared in front of them. This diagram shows that of those “passive” candidates out there, quite a large number of them are actually open to exploring new opportunities. We have segmented them down into three types of passive talent. Almost 60% of candidates out there are considered approachable candidates. These are made up of Tiptoers and Explorers. 15% are tiptoers – these are people who think about possibly switching jobs and might start reaching out their close associates and friends but are not broadcasting that they are open. 44% are Explorers – These are people who aren’t looking but are willing ot discuss a new opportunity if the right opportunity is presented to them by a recruiter Only 20% are Super passive – who are happily employed and not interested in new opportunities, not approachable

We’re sending this deck out to reference, but I’m only going to read the first slide Empower your candidates by telling them how, in this position, they’ll be set up to shape the trajectory of the business and leave a lasting mark. This is a unique advantage you get from InMail - so get your candidates excited by the possibilities and impact. Showcase the impact the role will have --- Passive talent especially care mostly about IMPACT, not responsibilities. Now that we’ve covered a few high level tips on InMailing passive candidates – I’m going to hand things over to Tara to kick us off on reviewing InMails!

Now we’re going to pass it over to Tara and she’s share how her inmail progressed over time – Tara – I was in your shoes and was asked to be on the panel at LinkedIn Thanks Joanna – and thank you Marketing for putting this plug in here – this photo was actually taken at a LinkedIn event the summer of last year – where I sat on a panel of recruiters who had some of the highest response rates in Chicago. Anywhere from 30% - 40%. At that point, I was doing technical recruiting for a firm in Chicago, so I’ve been in your shoes. I just came over to LinkedIn X months ago, but sending quality InMails is still fresh in my mind – and I’ve even learned more since then, so I’m excited to share further tips and best practices on the line today.
  5. Before we dig into the InMails we review The Good, The Bad and The Ugly – I wanted to personally share the transformation of InMails I sent over time as a technical recruiter. I think this will help highlight what to do, and not to do. We’ve all been at that starting point where we’re figuring it out – and then get into a groove for what works, so use the examples here as suggestions, not necessarily templates. Different things work for different roles – so don’t be afraid to get creative!
