On LinkedIn, you have many smart, talented, and skilled professional connections. Starting today, we are introducing Endorsements, a new feature that makes it easier to recognize them for their skills and expertise.

  • Why am I not getting this new endorsement feature on my account.? Do I need to activate this or what.? If yes, then how.?

  • I am beseeched by this endorsement requests from total strangers who first want you to join their professional network. I check their background and if it is relevant or meaningful for my nature of work, I ok it. But soon thereafter they come for endorsement. How come I can endorse somebody who is thousands of kilometers away and whom I have never met or interacted or even transacted business ! Linkedin should enforce conditions such as the person who is providing endorsement, should have worked together in any capacity, at least for one year. Alternatively, both the persons should have known each other for a minimum period of one year. I have my own doubts about the validity of such endorsements.

  • While LinkedIn Recommendations (those brief little snippets of nice things that people say about you) add “social validity” to you as a person and tell others how you performed at a specific job, they don’t tell the whole story. Should you care about LinkedIn Skill Endorsements? If you want to give people a better sense of what you know and get found by people who will want to pay you more money than what you’re making now, the answer is “absolutely.” I just wrote a blog entry to help you to maximize endorsements to get you more visible to recruiters. http://jobcircle.com/blog/?p=2839

  • Endorsements are fantastic - especially if they are done legitimately. I had someone endorse me recently, then called me to offer their services....doing the hard sell. That's just not cool.
Endorsements shouldn't be used willy-nilly but should given to someone who provides great service and is exceptional at what they do.
