This document discusses integrating viral hepatitis prevention messages and services into existing HIV prevention programs for injection drug users (IDU). It provides background on the risks of HIV, hepatitis C, hepatitis B, and hepatitis A for IDU. Existing HIV prevention interventions for IDU, like Safety Counts, could be adapted to include viral hepatitis prevention messages. An estimated 25,973 IDU could be reached through existing CDC-funded community-based organization programs. Integrating viral hepatitis prevention allows for educating more people and has the potential to significantly expand prevention efforts's reach.
