2.  A superstition is a belief or way of behaving that
is based on fear of the unknown and faith in
magic or luck : certain events or things will bring
good or bad luck.

luck and keep nightmares away, must hang a
horseshoe in the bedroom or on the entrance
door. This belief derives from the fact that a
horseshoe has seven holes, which is considered
to be a lucky number, and it’s made of iron,
which sends evil spirits away.

people purposely avoid doing anything
significant that day.

6.  It is thought that if a black cat crosses your path
it’s bad luck. This superstition finds its origin in
the middle ages due to the belief that cats were
actually witches who could become cats
themselves.

7.  The origin of the “break a mirror, face seven
years of bad luck“ superstition can be traced
back to the Romans, who were the first that
created glass mirrors.
 It was believed that a mirror had the power of
taking possession of the soul, and if a person
should break it, the soul would be trapped inside
the world that the mirror represented.
 Essentially, a broken mirror created a broken
soul.

8.  It was also believed that a person's physical body
renewed itself every seven years, so under that
criteria, it would take seven years before the soul
was completely restored as well. Until then, the
life for the mirror breaker, would be followed by
a series of unfortunate events.

9.  According to superstition, it is thought that if
people open an umbrella indoors, they are
literally asking for bad luck to “rain on them”.
 Also, it is said that an umbrella protects people
against the “storms of life”, so opening one inside
insults the guardian spirits of their homes, causing
them to leave them unprotected.

11.  If you sneeze it means someone is missing you.
 If your right hand itches, you will earn money.
 If you find a four-leaf clover or dream about a white
cat, you will have good luck.
 If your right ear itches, someone is speaking well
about you.
 If you step on your shadow, it brings you luck.
 If you blow out all the candles on your birthday cake
in one blow, you will get whatever you want.

12.  If you walk under a ladder, you will have bad luck.
 If a dog howls at night, death is near.
 If your left ear itches, someone is speaking bad
things about you.
 If you eat from the pot, it will rain at your wedding
ceremony.
 It is bad luck to see an owl in the sunlight.
 If a bat flies into your house it is bad luck.
