  2. 2. While it is true that many Americans would rather replace than repair their appliances and home fixtures, times are changing. There are homeowners who want to make the most of their investment and look for expert repair services to extend the life of everything they own. Home Appliance Purchases The home appliance industry is a multi-million dollar business. Experts forecast that worldwide shipment of home appliances will skyrocket from 583 million units (2013) to 700 million units (2017). This is likewise thanks to industry giants like Haier Electronics Group (China), LG Electronics (South Korea), Electrolux (Sweden), Whirlpool (United States), and the Bosch & Siemens Group (Germany). Statista revealed that there are $104.01 billion electronics and appliance store sales in the U.S. Most of these are major kitchen and laundry appliances (64.61 million), automatic washers (10.03 million), refrigerators (11.13 million), and electric ovens (677,000) from 2005 to 2017.
  3. 3. More Repairs for Appliances According to U.S. News and World Report, an average homeowner would spend 1% to 4% of their home value on maintenance and repairs annually. This means that a $500,000 home may at least have $5,000 repairs each year. As for appliances, Home Advisor noted that homeowners spend between $164 and $238 or an average of $201 on repair costs. In IBISWorld’s market research report, the expected annual growth of appliance repairs in the U.S. is 1.2% with $5 billion in revenue. The report also states that there are about 58,684 repair businesses operating in the country, employing about 70,479 people. If this continues, homeowners will not only be able to save on replacement costs, but give businesses jobs that will help keep their operations going. While Americans continue to buy new appliances, more of them are also seeking for repairs. After all, if professional help were within reach, it would cost less.
