59. The 3 Parameters
of Post-Method Pedagogy
Particularity
Practicality
Possibility
60. Particularity
‘...Any postmethod pedagogy
must be sensitive to a
particular group of teachers
teaching a particular group of
learners pursuing a particular
set of goals within a particular
institutional context embedded
in a particular sociocultural
milieu.’ (Kumaravadivelu, 2001, p.
538)

62. Practicality
‘The parameter of practicality
focuses on teachers’ reflection
and action, which are also based
on their insights and intuition.’
63. Possibility
‘The notion of possibility
stresses the importance of
acknowledging and highlighting
students’ & teachers’ individual
identity, encouraging them to
question the status quo.

myriam Can you identify yourselves with any of these? Did you feel like one of them or all of them at the same time?? Have you ever experienced a blissful feeling like the last one? Happy – satisfied – exhausted – scared – stressed – anxious - nervous
myriam Kumaravadivelu develops the notion of the 3 Parameters.
Mady Kumaravadivelu wrote this book called Undestanding Lg Teaching in 2006.
Myriam According to him, a post method pedagogy is characterized by three parameters: Particularity, Practicality and Possiblity which redefine what should be expected from a teacher today.
Lee mady He says that
Myriam Practicality is……. P doing what works and changing what doesn’t work. Action Research is practicality in action as it is reflection in thought and thought in action.
Lee Mady
Mady In this POST METHOD LANDSCAPE each parameter mentioned above, will demand new competencies in post method teachers.
Mady An Atonomous teacher means a teacher that can think for herself what to do, how to do and why to do sth acoording to the group of students and the context she is working at. According to the community she is inserted in, according. to the institution she is working at
Mady Being a researcher of their own classrooms is a characteristic that all teachers should have, which mainly implies being a kid watcher as the Goodmans say, knowing exactly what is going on in that particular group to that particular student, etc.(obviously connected to the previous parameter) and taking correct action.
