9. 9. Digital Natives

Digital Natives accustomed to the twitch-speed, multitasking, random-access, graphics-first, active, connected, fun, fantasy, quick-payoff world of their video games, MTV, and Internet are bored by most of today’s education, well meaning as it may be.

 10. 10.

But worse, the many skills that new technologies have actually enhanced (e.g., parallel processing, graphics awareness, and random access)—which have profound implications for their learning—are almost totally ignored by educators. (Prensky, 2001)

 20. 20. The Lagoon – Joseph Conrad Wordle created at http://www.wordle.net/gallery/wrdl/539804/The_Lagoon
 21. 21. Forum

What themes and features do you expect to find in the story? Can you predict any points of contact with the theory discussed by Boehmer?

 22. 22. http://ies28.sfe.infd.edu.ar/aula/foros.cgi
 23. 23.

I agree with D. in the sense that this story

seems to describe the adventures of a white

man in an exotic place. Because of the use of words such as forest, fear, silence, murmur, death, voices , I think we will find the ambiguity which Boehemer mentions: the fascination, and at the same time, the fear of the unknown. There is no doubt that the White Man will be the main character in the story since he is given prominence in the wordle. Besides, I believe that the setting of the action will be the river side or a lagoon because of the title of the story and the words that appear in the wordle (boat, river, canoe)

 24. 24.

I totally agree with L. in her ideas about the

words White and Man. Because of what we said in class, analyzing the story from a psychological perspective, we could consider his journey a journey to the unconscious, but nonetheless, we learn little about him. I also agree with the importance of Brotherhood in the text. However, the size of this word is small if we compare it to its importance in the text, probably because it belongs mainly to the tale within the tale. As most of the girls pointed out, there are several words in the wordle that enabled us to make several accurate predictions about the mood of the story.

 56. 64.

(…) The passing of time is a key element to understand other people`s attitudes, to reflect upon our own and to let ourselves grow and change. If I had the chance to meet Virginia Woolf I would ask her to tell me about the events in her life that allowed her to mature allowing her to change and start all over again.

To The Lighthouse - Post 4: After finishing the novel

 60. 69. Which superhero are you?

Batman : You are quiet, reserved, and have a tremendous sense of duty. Nonetheless, you are so humble that you do not want anyone to know about the good deeds you do every day and would rather people spit at you than praise you because you don't like attention. You're willing to do the right thing and take the fall or blame for other people's issues. Your motto is "quiet strength.“

Superman : You have identity issues and other personal problems that sometimes get in the way of what you are trying to do. You have a dark side and are not afraid to demonstrate but you are also willing to help every day. You are tremendously gifted and talented but sometimes fail to fully utilize those gifts.
