2. What is the Dark Net?
•
Also known as, the Invisible Web,
Deep Web, Hidden Net
•
Refers to all unseen, un-indexed and
often intentionally hidden web content
•
It is claimed to account for 96% of the
World Wide Web; 4% is what the
mainstream web users use and see
everyday
•
All accounts made are in anonymity
3. EFFECTS IN ECOMMERCE
•
The Darknet is notorious for having negative associations
•
Ecommerce sites emerge selling various of illegal contents, away from the mainstream’s eyes
(Silk Road and Atlantis)
•
Emergence of the black market in the web
• Silk Road is like the eBay of the Darknet where users can signup anonymously and sell
goods or purchase them
• Silk Road is reported to have $22 million in annual sales
• Hitmen are available for roughly around $20,000 in the site
• Sex and child porn can also be found in numerous of Darknet sites
• Currency in the Silk Road is called BitCoins
4. EFFECTS IN ECOMMERCE
Before I thought ecommerce was such a
great innovation, a milestone by merchants
all over. Now, it is terrifying and ridiculous to
think that it is so simple and easy to buy and
look for drugs online, or hire someone to kill
someone, as easy as buying a nice pair of
shoes online. Although this is still innovation,
with a bad twist. Ecommerce, I believe, is a
good thing. But I also think, there are bad
people who utilize ecommerce rather than
ecommerce turn users or consumers into
bad people. This is very similar to tabooed
materials such as guns, marijuana,
prescribed drugs, etc. All were made to
answer a problem, people just abuse it.
5. The want for freedom is not bad at all, but when is “too
much freedom” bad?
6. 2 years from now
People will be more aware of the Darknet.
As a user of the World Wide Web, it is inert
for someone to not care about what
majority of the WWW actually contains.
Knowledge is key for people to actually
see the good and the bad about the
Darknet. From there, the people can try to
make the net a better and safer one. Just
like the world, but Utopia is fiction.
7. 2 years from now
•
But when does too much freedom
actually pushes someone to be bad?
This can be a similar psychological
result of not having enough freedom, like
how people say strict parents create
“monsters” - kids who would sneak out,
break rules, do all illicit things behind
their parents’ backs but an angel when
they are with them. Like the web,
government has infiltrated the limited
freedom people have online and with
that, it triggered others to act out on
another stream.
8. “If we allow the fearful and reactive to control
the Internet, prepare for the worst. The
sickest of the sick will always have another
place to go where they can feel free to be
depraved. The oppressed will be silenced,
the people will have their every movement
monitored and nobody in any spectrum of
society will gain from the exercise”
