Jack Ma discussed new trends in technology that will change the world including new retail, production, finance, technology, and resources. Alibaba Cloud will use AI and deep learning to support the Hangzhou City Brain project to address urban challenges. Foxconn's Terry Guo remarked that what initially disrupted manufacturing were new ideas, not e-commerce, and that Alibaba's "ants" now have a "brain" through Alibaba Cloud that can overturn large companies. Alibaba also announced plans to use its technologies for astronomical data storage and analysis and introduced an updated YunOS operating system.
4. • "There are 5 Big New Trends that will change China and the
rest of the world: "New Retail", "New Production", "New
Finance", "New Technology" and "New Resources”
• “Pure e-commerce" will vanish soon, Alibaba will no longer
mention the word 'e-commerce’
• It has often been said that 'the Internet is disrupting several
industries,' or that 'e-commerce has destroyed traditional
commerce.' I don't believe so, what truly disrupted us are
our backward thoughts, our ignorance of the future, and
the refusal to embrace the future
• In the past we tried to become more like machines, in the
future machines will become more like humans”
5. Alibaba Cloud’s AI and Deep Learning technologies
will support the “Hangzhou City Brain”
6. • Ali Cloud will use its artificial intelligence (AI), deep learning
and data analytics capabilities for the Hangzhou City Brain
project
• The project will address the city’s urban living challenges
and will rely on Ali Cloud to perform real-time traffic
prediction with its video and image recognition
technologies
• Forming the backbone of the “Hangzhou City Brain” data
processing and analysis capabilities is Apsara, Alibaba
Cloud’s large scale computing operating system, which is
able to cluster millions of servers into a super computer
and to support a multitude of cloud-based services by
analyzing terabytes of data points
8. • Jian Wang announced the Hangzhou City Brain together
with Terry Guo, CEO of Foxconn, and Hangzhou
Government officer
• Terry Guo said that the first time he has been here was in
2007 at the 2nd E-commerce Conference. Jack Ma told him:
"You are an elephant in the manufacturing industry, I’m
now helping a bunch of ants to disrupt you”. Today those
ants have a “brain” thanks to Alicloud. Even though they
are tiny, they are getting smarter and can really overturn an
elephant. It is not only an elephant that has been
overturned, but also the global political, economical and
financial landscape
10. • Alibaba Cloud has announced the collection and analysis of
astronomical data
• The plan is to set up a data and research centre for
astronomy, as well as a virtual solar observatory which will
be supported by Apsara’s massive scalability and advanced
capabilities to process astronomical data
• China aims to be placed as the global leader in deep space
radio telescope research and has taken the lead in
astronomical data storage and collection
12. • Developed by more than 1,000 engineers over the course of
three years, YunOS is now the third most popular operating
system in China, used in more than 100 million mobile devices,
smart home appliances, smart TVs as well as a humanoid robot
• It distinguishes itself from the most widely used smartphone
operating systems because it was built to work in a cloud
environment. Devices act as nodes on a network, constantly
sharing information with, and using software programs and
computational power from the cloud
14. Several announcements were made during the event:
• leading Chinese consumer-electronics maker Haier and
Japanese electronics giant Sharp have signed up to install
YunOS in their smart TVs
• HP and Intel will produce a tablet computer running
YunOS for schools and universities
• SAIC Motor, will install YunOS in the RX5 SUV
16. • Alibaba has officially announced its first “Internet car” in
collaboration with SAIC and it includes a new version of Yun’os
operating system
• “What we are creating is not ‘a car + Internet’, but a ‘car
running on the Internet’. Smart operating systems become the
second engine of cars, while data is the new fuel,” said Jian
Wang
• “In the past cars devalued after you bought them, but thanks
to data cars will have a new value independent from the aging
of the asset
