PENINSULA

the famous Caretta-Caretta are born
each year.

shinning on the surface of the sea are trying

flamingoes as a stopover during their
migration from Europe to Africa and back.

are many ancient trees

the central part of Pafos Forest.

36. The site covers an area of 18286 ha
of forests and mountains with rivers
and streams.

37. At Paphos forest we can meet the
muflon (agrino in Greek). It is a kind
of wild sheep.

38. It’s an endangered endemic species
and highly protected.

39. PETRA TOU ROMIOU
Petra tou Romiou means "the Rock of the
Greek" and refers to a myth that regards a
Byzantine hero Dighenis who threw the rocks
at pirates to protect his lady.

40. It has also been
regarded since ancient
times as the birthplace
of Aphrodite, goddess of
love and fertility.

43. According to legend, after
swimming in the crystal
clear waters of the Bay,
Aphrodite used to bathe in
this wonderful pond.

44. The legend also says that if
you wash your face using this
water you become beautiful
like the goddess of love and
beauty Aphrodite!
