2. Evaluation Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions
of real media products?
3. Title of magazine which is Brit
Asian supports the genre of the
magazine and straight away shows
the audiences what the magazine
is based on. For the masthead I
used a convention of real media
products as I have used bold
colours to make the masthead
stand out and look attractive.
The mise-en-scene of the images creates the
conventional use of imagery in a real media
product. As I have used a long shot which is
head to toe also a mid shot however the
front cover image some how challenges the
conventions as the person on the front cover
isn’t having direct eye contact.
4. Costumes and props
The costumes used on the DPS
show the genre of the magazine
Which is a Asian based magazine as
the person on my magazine is
wearing a Indian outfit. Also as it
stands out and adds to the glamour
of the DPS contrasting with its plain
Background.
The props such as the mike in the
artist hand shows the live
performances to make the magazine
Look more realistic.
People The people in the
magazine are a mixed also the
fact its both sexes not to make
it look gender based so
therefore neither male or
female dominated which is
another convention of media
products.
5. Title font and style
The use of font style through
the magazine has been a
variety however neat and
easily read.
For the title of the DPS I used
another convention of a
media product as I took out
an important quote from the
title and used that as my title.
By exaggerating the font and
making it stand out it
emphasises the purpose
behind the article itself and
tempts the audience to read
it.
The style of having ‘Contents’ in the top
corner of the page and spilt up in three
sections. This was an idea I took from the
magazine Vibe when I researched upon
contents pages.
The font colours were mainly black and
red which is a typical traditional
convention of magazines. Also the use of
blue which portrays a established look.
6. Written Content
Another convention I used was
using words which only the
targeted audiences would be
familiar with.
This shows who the magazine
is directed at.
Music Genre and how your magazine suggests it
The use of words again shows exactly what the magazines genre is
and who are the targeted audience also the costume on the DPS add
to who the magazines aimed at.
7. Layout
Overall layout of my magazine again shows conventions of
other magazines as there a lot of similarities.
Such as there is a use of only one main image on the front cover
which is often seen in other magazines. The DPS also has a
bigger and bold title like other magazines do and then bigger
chunk of article for the audience. I have also only used one
image on the DPS.
Contents Page
The contents page is divided into three sections just
like magazines such as Kerrang or BillBoard would
do. There is a section of mainly images, the other
with the page numbers and finally the editors letter
itself.
9. The two images contrast with each other as they both are a head to toe shot of the people.
Also it attracts audiences and shows a variety from the other shots which are conventional
like a mid shot. The posture and gesture suggests a way of attracting audiences also the use
of direct eye contact and the boldness of the images is inviting for the audience.
The hair and costume portrays glamour in the music industry and emphasis the high
lifestyle of the people on music magazines.
10. Evaluation Question 3
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The distribution of my magazine would be similar to other music magazines such as Vibe , XXL etc. as
it would be sold in shops which are local or big supermarkets also issues would be sold online.
11. Evaluation Question 4
Who would be the audience of your media product?
My audience would be targeted at the age group of
at least 16+ which would mean that it would mainly
be the young Asian teenagers. However some of the
content would contain traditional touch for elder
audiences such as images.
Targeted audience would buy my magazine as there
are rarely any Asian music magazines therefore it is
a way of covering a missing point in the market. Also
it shows culture and tradition which however with a
modern touch that will attract the audience.
12. Evaluation Question 5
How did you attract/address your audience?
The use of images and the language
helped me address my audience.
13. Evaluation Question 6
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of conducting this product ?
Whilst creating this media product it helped gain more knowledge about using Photoshop
programmes such as Serif DrawPlus.
Features such as Image Cut Out studio and how to use it sensibly
Other online computer programmes I used were picmonkey.com which was used for the
images on the magazine.
This helped me edit them such adding contrast to them also making them look more
effective and professional.
The I mainly used for the production was my phone and camera.
14. Evaluation Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to full product?
Since the preliminary task I feel I have learnt
a lot as I’ve understood the meaning of how
to make my final product look more
professional. Such as adding pugs or making
the font look more attractive and how to
make it stand out by using filter effects.
Also the use of Image Cut Out Studio to get
rid of the unwanted background.
From looking at the two products I see a
huge difference. Every aspect has been
changed, also the choice of image and shot is
more conventional for the final product
compared to the college magazine.
