Abstract
The Network Design and Implementation document has been prepared by Nishantkumar
Chaudhary and Harmandeep Singh Bhatoa of Computer System Technology of Centennial
College, Progress campus for RealTech Solutions. Canada. To accomplish this project, we were
fully able to utilize the knowledge and experience in implementation and build a secure and
efficient network for the RealTech Solutions.
According to the OACETT guidelines, the network implemented by us consists of three server’s
web server, exchange server and the domain controllers running on windows server 2008
containing active directory. We have used windows 7 client workstations and proceeding to the
network devices, we have used two cisco 1941 series routers and two cisco catalyst 2960 series
switches according to the performance and scalability of the network.
We have used Virtualization technology in our network for running the servers as it is efficient
and secure. All the project work requirements were met and the project was completed within a
budget and on time. The Contribution in the project was equally made by the team members for
making it a success.

their accomplishments. In addition, they need a safe system on World Wide Web. Moreover, they
need that their workers can contact with one another through messages so they need an email
framework to be secured.
The purpose behind the game plan will safeguard you in comprehending your current status and
moreover sees your brief steps to be taken. It furthermore moves to meet undertaking destinations
in a predefined interval of time that may be the cost and the augmentation in a described break, in
like manner to meet the triple need time.
3

Background:
Virtualization:
Virtualization is a way that permits us to make a virtual form of something to run more than one
working frameworks and required applications on the same working framework or equipment. It
is structured by the blend of diverse equipment's and additionally software's.
Normally we can work over one and only working framework however by means of virtualization,
different working frameworks can be utilized over the same machine and more applications can
be run together all the while over diverse working frameworks.
Storage Virtualization:
Storage virtualization allows more than one-storage device to appear as a single-storage unit. It is
a part of additional storage layer offered by specialized software that supplies more efficiency and
performance without the purchase of any king of storage hardware.
VMware storage virtualization is a blend of abilities that provides a reflection level to physical
storing resources to be having a tendency to oversee and reorganized in a virtualization
arrangement.
5
For the better virtual base, Storage virtualization offers a way that can deal with the capacity
supplies in a fitting way which gives your business the capacity to:
• Considerably build stockpiling supply and adaptability, with more highlights.
• Simplify the utilization of every single prerequisite of the drivers required for the OS fixing,
paying little respect to any extra stockpiling.
• Expands the applications up-time, additionally streamlines operations needed to process
Server Virtualization:
This is a kind of virtualization that works at the part layer of the working system.
Most of the servers today use under 16 percent of the cut-off; this is amazingly inefficient,
furthermore it moreover presents server flightiness.
A complete server virtualization platform is offered by VMware VSphere that can deliver:
 Up to 52 percentage savings in the operating expenses.
 81.5 percentages greater than the utilization of server supplies.
VMWare Workstation:
VM machine is a product utilization of physical machine that performs diverse projects. The clients
can make distinctive virtual machines and can run diverse machines all the while in same physical
machines. Distinctive working frameworks like windows or Linux or some other can execute as
the visitor working framework. VM product serves to migrate VM machines over the various
physical host machines. The distinctive groupings of the virtual machines are framework virtual
and physical virtual machines. A portion of the highlights of the VMware are, they can bolster
more equipment and diverse virtual OS's. Taken a toll for keeping up workstation and server are
less when contrasted with certifiable IT structure. It is anything but difficult to update the
equipment and programming in light of the fact that they all are running in virtual machines.
6
Windows Server 2008
. Windows Server 2008 is a server working framework with new highlights, for example, Server
center, which permits organization through command line interface.
Server 2008 Requirements:
7
Active Directory:
It offers diverse Microsoft variants of windows server working framework. Dynamic catalog is
utilized to handle huge number of inquiry features and extensively little number of redesigns,
likewise gives controlled and secure information stockpiling. Dynamic catalog is fit for controlling
customer clients, customer PCs and printers for administrations in a system. The information in
Active Directory is an uncommon reason information that is replicable, extensible and various
leveled. As it offers replication, we don't have to store dynamic information, for example, CPU
execution. However, for the situation when information is machine particular, the information will
be put away in the registry.
Latest Features:
o Remote desktop service available
o It can be programmed easily.
o Desktop monitoring service
o Security accordingly requirement.
o Internal standards support required.

DNS Server
DNS is otherwise called Domain name Services which is an administration gave by the server that
determines space name to IP address. In the current IT world, it is difficult to recall the IP locations
utilized by PCs rather we utilize area names, for example, RealTech.com. PCs or machines can't
comprehend area names and they need IP location to forward parcels and get answer from the
proposed page. All things considered DNS maps space names to IP so PC comprehend the IP
address and page can be recovered. It is one of the administration gave by TCP/IP. DNS assumes
an essential part utilized as a part of TCP/IP systems. At whatever point a DNS name is entered in
a URL bar, DNS administrations determined that name to IP address. Thus it additionally
determines IP location to human justifiable arrangement DHCP Server
Windows IIS Server (IIS 7)
This Server is a Microsoft made server utilized on the Computers just with windows working
framework Computers. IIS offers a gathering of Internet servers with more abilities for Microsoft
Windows working frameworks. The IIS supervisor can be gotten to through the Microsoft
Management Consoler Administrative instrument accessible in the control board.
Features:
o Application Hosting Enhancement.
o Integrated Extensions.
Exchange server2010:
The Microsoft Exchange Server is the force behind all the amazing highlights of Microsoft
Outlook. It is generally utilized by business associations that are being used by Microsoft base
arrangements in everyday life. Microsoft Exchange Server is thought to be the most famous co-
agent and informing servers utilized as a part of the world.
9
Services provided:
 It allows client users to share data and information using Outlook or Web Access

Troubleshooting Network
1. Problem Description
The DHCP clients were unable to get ip address from DHCP server instead they were getting
automatically the APIPA address .
Cause of Problem
The Win 7 clients were unable to locate the DHCP server on the network
Resolution of Problem
First, we used command prompt to ping the client to the server which has DHCP service
installed on it. Next, we checked for the network configuration and turned it to obtain ip address
automatically . Also we manually released and renew the ip address and checked the dhcp
address lease option for cross checking.
Resolution of Problem
Show ip int s0/0/0
Int S0/0/0
Clockrate 64000
70
Sh ip int s0/0/0
We configured 64000 clock rate on router interface which is a DCE
3. Problem Description
There was change in the state of routers interface automatically from up to down .
Reasons
• Cable was not connected properly and was faulty
Resolution of Problem
We verified that proper cable to be used in our network. If there is a direct connection suppose
between router and PC or switches, a special industry made standard cross cable should be used .
We can also verify the ends of wire whether in good condition or not.
4. Problem description
We were not able to create new mail box users in exchange server.
Reasons
Because of the Microsoft Exchange system Attendant Service was not running correctly .
Resolution of Problem
First we opened the services of the system using run and in run we wrote services.msc command.
After that we searched for Microsoft Exchange System attendant. WE right clicked on it and
restarted it . After this we went back to adding new mailbox user and we were able to add the
user to the database
71
Analysis of Results
We were able to build a project for the expansion of RealTech Solutions network in a timely
manner and within budget. In the starting we faced some problems related to the exchange server
and the web server . We were not able to open the Microsoft outlook web access and when we
were trying to add the new mail box user then we were facing problems in adding the user . After
trying hard and finding the results of the problem from various sources , we were able to achieve
it. There is a service named Microsoft Exchange System Attendant . It was restarted by our team
and again tried , then we were able to add the new mail box user. This was a must to add because
after troubleshooting it we came to know about the problem and because of that only users can
send emails to other users on network.
Moreover, in the IIS 7 web server , we created a website and when we were doing the bindings for
the name ip resolution then we were failed to open the website . The problem was that dns was not
resolving the ip to name and name to ip because there was no entry in the dns forward and reverse
look up zones. So therefore , according to the knowledge and skills of the team , we created name
to ip record in the Forward look up zone and PTR record in the backward look up zone. Therefore,
we were able to successfully run the website . This was also a need of the network that we
accomplished after many failures. At the end the overall impact on the project was project was
running properly and according to the knowledge and our skills we developed it without any help
from anyone.
72
Summary and Recommendation
We were able to complete the network expansion of Realtech Solutions within allocated budget
and specified time. Nearly 360 users can be accommodated at the Toronto main location and about
110 users at the Montreal location. The two locations provides the Web services, Mail services,
Redundant servers . Virtual LANS has been deployed at each site for better management. The two
three cisco routers running EIGRP protocols have been deployed to connect wide area network.
On the active directory, users can be created and assigned services whichever the administrator
likes and after that users can login to their profile into the domain . They can send mails to other
clients on the network through exchange server 2010 and can access the website to get the
important information hosted on the web server through http://www.HN.com with the help of their
internet explorer.
For Future Development we can recommend :
 Update the servers according to the upcoming technology.
 A group of IT technicians or experts can be hired for taking care of the system and its
enhancements .
 Deploy a hardware firewall for more security
 Network up gradation at frequent intervals
 We can use VPN for more secure connection.
 Fiber optic cables can be used for more speed and bandwidth.

Canada. To accomplish this project, we were fully able to utilize the knowledge and experience in implementation and build a secure and efficient network for the RealTech Solutions. According to the OACETT guidelines, the network implemented by us consists of three server’s web server, exchange server and the domain controllers running on windows server 2008 containing active directory. We have used windows 7 client workstations and proceeding to the network devices, we have used two cisco 1941 series routers and two cisco catalyst 2960 series switches according to the performance and scalability of the network. We have used Virtualization technology in our network for running the servers as it is efficient and secure. All the project work requirements were met and the project was completed within a budget and on time. The Contribution in the project was equally made by the team members for making it a success.
  • 4. 2 Introduction RealTech Solutions is a leading Information Technology (IT) company providing solutions for running business efficiently as well as effectively in Toronto, Canada. RealTech is expecting to expand the network in the other cities of Ontario for example in Montreal to provide services to their clients. They right now have two divisions in Toronto to be specific Administration and HR office. They need to create three divisions at the webpage furthermore they need a site to upgrade their accomplishments. In addition, they need a safe system on World Wide Web. Moreover, they need that their workers can contact with one another through messages so they need an email framework to be secured. The purpose behind the game plan will safeguard you in comprehending your current status and moreover sees your brief steps to be taken. • 71. 69 Troubleshooting Network 1. Problem Description The DHCP clients were unable to get ip address from DHCP server instead they were getting automatically the APIPA address . Cause of Problem The Win 7 clients were unable to locate the DHCP server on the network Resolution of Problem First, we used command prompt to ping the client to the server which has DHCP service installed on it. Next, we checked for the network configuration and turned it to obtain ip address automatically . Also we manually released and renew the ip address and checked the dhcp address lease option for cross checking. Resolution of Problem Show ip int s0/0/0 Int S0/0/0 Clockrate 64000
  • 72. 70 Sh ip int s0/0/0 We configured 64000 clock rate on router interface which is a DCE 3. Problem Description There was change in the state of routers interface automatically from up to down . Reasons • Cable was not connected properly and was faulty Resolution of Problem We verified that proper cable to be used in our network. If there is a direct connection suppose between router and PC or switches, a special industry made standard cross cable should be used . We can also verify the ends of wire whether in good condition or not. 4. Problem description We were not able to create new mail box users in exchange server. Reasons Because of the Microsoft Exchange system Attendant Service was not running correctly . Resolution of Problem First we opened the services of the system using run and in run we wrote services.msc command. After that we searched for Microsoft Exchange System attendant. WE right clicked on it and restarted it . After this we went back to adding new mailbox user and we were able to add the user to the database
  • 73. 71 Analysis of Results We were able to build a project for the expansion of RealTech Solutions network in a timely manner and within budget. In the starting we faced some problems related to the exchange server and the web server . We were not able to open the Microsoft outlook web access and when we were trying to add the new mail box user then we were facing problems in adding the user . After trying hard and finding the results of the problem from various sources , we were able to achieve it. There is a service named Microsoft Exchange System Attendant . It was restarted by our team and again tried , then we were able to add the new mail box user. This was a must to add because after troubleshooting it we came to know about the problem and because of that only users can send emails to other users on network. Moreover, in the IIS 7 web server , we created a website and when we were doing the bindings for the name ip resolution then we were failed to open the website . The problem was that dns was not resolving the ip to name and name to ip because there was no entry in the dns forward and reverse look up zones. So therefore , according to the knowledge and skills of the team , we created name to ip record in the Forward look up zone and PTR record in the backward look up zone. Therefore, we were able to successfully run the website . This was also a need of the network that we accomplished after many failures. At the end the overall impact on the project was project was running properly and according to the knowledge and our skills we developed it without any help from anyone.
  • 74. 72 Summary and Recommendation We were able to complete the network expansion of Realtech Solutions within allocated budget and specified time. Nearly 360 users can be accommodated at the Toronto main location and about 110 users at the Montreal location. The two locations provides the Web services, Mail services, Redundant servers . Virtual LANS has been deployed at each site for better management. The two three cisco routers running EIGRP protocols have been deployed to connect wide area network. On the active directory, users can be created and assigned services whichever the administrator likes and after that users can login to their profile into the domain . They can send mails to other clients on the network through exchange server 2010 and can access the website to get the important information hosted on the web server through http://www.HN.com with the help of their internet explorer. For Future Development we can recommend :  Update the servers according to the upcoming technology.  A group of IT technicians or experts can be hired for taking care of the system and its enhancements .  Deploy a hardware firewall for more security  Network up gradation at frequent intervals  We can use VPN for more secure connection.  Fiber optic cables can be used for more speed and bandwidth.
