messages, bulk SMS services offer cheap SMS to mobile phones.
We are all used to sending free e-mails. You just log in to your account and
send the email to any account you want without paying the e-mail service
provider. For SMS however, we are used to paying for them. However, you can
now send free SMS with your mobile phone or computer to any mobile phone
in the world.
Here are some free SMS services that can be used to send SMS to mobile
phones in Nigeria. All of them can be used to send free text messages
internationally. Check for supported countries or networks before sending

SMS with your mobile phone, you will need a mobile phone with at least GPRS

websites, while others can be accessed with simple WAP browsers.
Before using a free text messaging service, make sure that the network and/or
country you wish to send the free SMS text to is supported by the service. Also,
make sure you read the terms and condition of the free SMS service, just to be
sure your number is safe.
Note that if you send an SMS to a network that is not supported by the free

Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. Over 100 network providers worldwide are

SMS service.
How does free text messaging work
Most services that offer genuine free SMS use it as a marketing ploy to attract
visitors to their website. Once on their site and enjoying their free SMS
service, they hope you will try some of their non-free services. This may
include music, games, and ringtone downloads. Free SMS text services also
make money through advertising. Therefore, if this marketing strategy fails
for your free SMS provider, they will be out of business.
3
4. To reduce cost of your SMS, free text messaging services buy cheaper bulk
SMS from different network providers upfront, enabling you to send SMS free
as part of their bulk account with the service providers. Therefore, although
you get it free, the free SMS provider pays for it but at a cheaper rate because
they buy the SMS in bulk.
Beware of some free SMS services
Some free SMS services are not genuine. They claim to offer you free SMS
service, but all they are interested in is your phone number, which they will
use to send you Ads or scams to your mobile phones. So, before using any free
SMS service, make sure it is genuine.

10. Activating Internet browsing on MTN
MTN internet services can be accessed with an internet enabled mobile phone,
an Internet modem, or an Internet router. You can browse with the mobile
phone directly or use it as a modem to connect your desktop or laptop to the
internet using a data cable/USB or Bluetooth. To get your 3G/3.5G/GPRS
settings automatically, text SETTINGS to 3888 on an MTN Nigeria mobile
phone.
You can also manually configure your mobile phone using the following
settings.
Account name: MTN GPRS
Access point name (APN): web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
IP Address: 10.199.212.2
Port: 8080 (for HTML) or 9201 (for WAP)
Username: web
Password: web
Port 8080 is recommended except if your mobile phone supports only WAP.
If you buy your internet browsing devices from an MTN service centre, it will
be pre-loaded with MTN internet settings.
The 3.5G FastLink USB modem costs around N5,000 from MTN and is also
compatible to 3G/EDGE/GPRS. MTN also offers a portable Wi-Fi that can
enable you share your internet access with up to five Wi-Fi devices within a
10m range. The portable Wi-Fi hotspot called MTN Mi-Fi, costs N27,000 with
5GB free internet browsing bundle. To activate your MTN free Mi-Fi bundle,
text MIFI to 131.
10
11. AIRTEL INTERNET 1GB - SMARTPHONE BROWSING PLAN
Airtel has revamped its internet browsing bundles to be more competitive in
the market place. Airtel now offers 200MB, 1GB, 3GB, Night (3GB), 5GB, and
10GB internet browsing bundles. Some of these internet bundles have been
priced for competitiveness in the market place and offer 30-day 24/7 internet
access limited to their respective data caps. Of all the new Airtel Internet
browsing bundles we find the Airtel 1GB, Night, and the 3GB internet
browsing bundles most outstanding. While the Airtel 1GB internet bundle
costs N3,000, the 3GB plan costs N5,000. We also find the 200MB internet
browsing plan very attractive. Here we will focus on the Airtel 1GB internet
browsing bundle.
What makes Airtel 1GB internet plan very attractive?
The Airtel 1GB internet, also called the Airtel Smartphone browsing plan,
offers 30-day 24/7 internet access limited to 1GB for N3,000. Airtel
Smartphone internet plan strikes the right balance between price,
convenience, and data usage limit. Other internet browsing bundles from
other networks in Nigeria, within the same price range offer lower data
allowance or restrict the time you browse like day, night, or weekend internet
plans. For example, the Etisalat 500MB internet browsing bundle also goes for
N3,000, while MTN and Airtel Night browsing plans cost N2,500 but are only
accessible at night, which can be inconvenient. However, Glo has introduced a
similar bundle, which now competes with the Airtel 1GB Internet Browsing
Plan.
Who needs Airtel 1GB internet browsing plan?
If your internet access needs is above 400MB in 30-days but less than 1GB
within the same period, we recommend the Airtel 1GB Internet browsing
bundle. If you stream lots of video and do lots of download/upload probably
on 3G, 1GB data allowance may be small for you. Airtel recommends that you
use the 1GB internet browsing bundle on your mobile devices like smart
phones, and tablet PCs. That is a good advice; however you can still use the
plan on your modem for connecting your laptop or desktop to the internet.
11
12. How to access Airtel 1GB Internet?
The Airtel 1GB Internet bundle can be accessed via an internet enabled phone
(GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA/HSDPA) or a compatible internet modem. You will
require Airtel internet settings in your mobile device or modem. For manual
configuration, just enter internet.ng.zain.com as your Access Point Name
(APN). Password and username are not required.
Airtel also supports automatic internet configuration. According to
information on their website, here is the process:
"Send an SMS with the word internet[space]phone brand[space] model to
232 eg internet sonyericsson P910i to receive your settings.
Accept, install or save the settings that will be sent to your phone by sms. If
asked for a Pin, please use '0' or '0000'.
Once your Airtel Internet browsing settings is loaded successfully, buy and
load Airtel recharge cards worth N3,000 into your internet enabled mobile
phone, device, or USB modem and dial *141*712*10#. You will receive an
SMS in a short-while informing you of the success or failure of your request. If
your request is successful, you can now start browsing the internet. In 30-
days or on using 1GB, your Airtel Smartphone internet plan will expire. The
downside of Airtel internet packages is that you are not alerted when your
internet package expires. Once your Airtel internet package expires, your
internet access will automatically default to pay as you go at 15kb/s without
alerting you. So if you have extra credit on your device, it may be wiped out
before you know what is going on.

14. INTERNET NIGERIA GLO, MTN, AIRTEL, STARCOMMS,
ETISALAT, VISAFONE
A number of internet service providers ISPs exist in Nigeria to enable you
connect your home or business to the internet. Here you will find information
on internet service providers for connecting your home, business, or office to
the internet in Nigeria.
Presently, the cheapest option for connecting to internet in Nigeria is via
mobile telecommunications networks like Globacom, Airtel, Etisalat, MTN,
Zoom mobile, Visafone, Multilinks, and so on. Over the past years there has
been a remarkable improvement in the quality of internet services offered by
mobile operators in Nigeria as operators roll out faster and more reliable
internet services targeted at both home and business customers.
Businesses require fast and reliable internet services and providers like
LinkServe, Direct on PC, iWay Africa, Globacom, Swift Networks, Mobitel,
Starcomms iZap, MTN, 21st Century tech, ipNX, and so on can provide fast and
reliable internet. These Internet services companies supply broadband or
near broadband internet services to their clients via cable, satellite, VSAT,
fibre optics, wireless, and/or Wi-Fi/WIMAX.
However, mobile operators like MTN, Airtel, Visafone, Zoom mobile, Glo
mobile, and Starcomms now offer fast and reliable internet services especially
on their 3G networks good enough for micro, small, medium, and even large
businesses.
Connecting to internet using mobile operators is popular in Nigeria, because it
is cheaper and simpler. Most people wishing to connect to internet already
have a mobile phone and in some cases, these mobile phones are internet
ready. This means that all one often needs to connect to internet via a mobile
operator is to subscribe to an internet browsing bundle within his/her budget.
If your mobile phone supports USB, Bluetooth, or a data cable and has a built-
in internet modem, you will be able to connect your computer to the internet
with your mobile phone. However, connecting your computer to the internet
with a mobile phone is not always convenient because of interruptions as a
result of incoming calls and SMS/MMS. An internet modem is recommended if
14
15. you want a reliable internet access on your computer.
You can buy devices for connecting to internet like internet USB modems or
internet data cards at between N5,000 and N11,000 from mobile networks in
Nigeria. Compare this with connecting with VSAT or cable where you need
some expensive equipment. Even if you go for a Wi-Fi router from your mobile
operator that enables you share your internet access in an office or home
setting, at around N25,000, you will still be paying less especially for small
businesses.
Internet services via VSAT and cable are fast, but wireless internet from
mobile operators are now catching up with 3G, EDGE, and EVDO. Price of
internet has been falling and will continue to fall as demand continues to
increase. Today with as low as N1,000 you can get one month internet access.
Similarly with as low as N5,000, you can get one month internet access for
your micro or small business. If you looking for cost effective internet
solutions for your home or small/micro business checkout internet bundles
from Glo mobile, Airtel, MTN, Swift Networks, Etisalat, Starcomms, and so on.
Here are some mobile operators with some of their Internet service packages:
15
16. GLO INTERNET
Globacom was the first GSM operator in Nigeria to launch any form of packet
switched data service with the launch of GPRS. Then came EDGE and now Glo
operates a HSDPA 3.5G high-speed internet service called Glo 3G plus. They
are currently testing 4G LTE (the first also). Glo boasts of some of the most
cost effective internet bundles in Nigeria today.
Glo pre-paid and post-paid internet subscribers can now access high-speed
internet via Glo 3G Plus where they are available in Nigeria. Today with with
as low as N1,000, you can get a 200MB internet bundle from Glo, 100% more
than the industry standard. Glo offers a 1GB internet bundle for N3,000, a 3GB
internet bundle for N5,000, a 6GB internet bundle for N7,500, a 10GB internet
bundle for N10,000, etc.
Globacom has a subsidiary offering Broadband voice internet video and data
services. Glo broadband solutions for businesses provide high-speed internet,
video, and voice via VSAT and/or leased lines for businesses that need large
data capacity and high reliability. Glo Broadband services large corporations
like banks, ISPs, oil companies, individuals, and so on.

Airtel Mobile internet
Airtel used to offer the best internet services in Nigeria, but over the past
months the quality of their services has been going south. We hope that their
recent acquisition deal will bring changes that will lead to better internet
services from Airtel.
Aside their quality of service, Airtel as some of the most competitively priced
internet bundles in Nigeria. In fact, in terms of pricing of internet bundles in
Nigeria only Glo mobile ranks at par with Aitel. The Airtel 1GB internet
package is one of the most cost effective internet bundle in Nigeria at 3,000
NGN monthly.

20. GLO INTERNET BROWSING 200MB BUNDLE ALWAYS MICRO:
MORE VALUE FOR N1,000
Glo Always Micro is a cheap monthly internet bundle, from Glo Mobile. Glo
Always Micro is now a 200MB 30-day internet browsing bundle, which goes
for N1,000 per month. Glo Always Micro formally had a download limit of
150MB, but Glo has increased it by 33%, consolidating Glo Always Micro's
position as the best internet browsing bundle money can buy at N1,000 in
Nigeria.
Glo 200MB Internet Browsing bundle is our recommended browsing plan if
your data usage is below 400MB in a month or you browse on your mobile
phone. Glo Always Micro is a huge relief for most Glo subscribers, especially
subscribers browsing directly on mobile phones and it is even sweeter with
more data allowance. In this article we will provide an overview of the Glo
200MB Internet Browsing plan (Always Micro) and how to access it.
Glo Always Micro offers 30 days access to the internet limited to a data usage
of 200MB for N1,000. It currently offers 100% more value than other internet
bundles priced at N1,000 in the market today (Although we hear that Airtel
now has a similar bundle). While other 30-day internet bundles in the market
offer data usage limit of 100MB, the Glo Always Micro gives you 200MB, 100%
more value for your buck.
Getting Glo Always Micro
The first thing to know about browsing on the Glo mobile network is that Glo
has a secure internet network. Hence, you may not be able to access internet
on the Glo network unless your SIM has been provisioned for internet
browsing. If you are already browsing with your mobile phone on per
kilobytes basis, then accessing Glo 200MB Internet Browsing plan is as simple
as loading the internet setting for Glo prepaid internet browsing packages. If
you already have a Glo USB internet modem, the internet setting is pre-loaded,
so all you need to do is to send the required command via SMS.
To provision your Glo SIM for browsing take your internet enabled mobile
phone to a Glo World shop. There, a Glo staff will provision it for internet
20
21. browsing. Normally the settings that the staff will load to your SIM are for Glo
WAP, which Glo internet browsing plans do not recognise. With Glo WAP
settings you can only pay in kb, which with time will be very expensive. Ask
the staff to load Glo Flat, which is the access point required for Glo Always
Micro. Normally, the staff will tell you that bundled internet access is not
available on mobile phones. Ignore that as we currently browse on Glo Always
Micro on our mobile phones. Just follow steps below to setup Glo prepaid
internet browsing bundles.
Here is how to set it up:
Manually load the following internet setting on your mobile phone:
Access Point Name (APN): gloflat
Username: flat
Password: flat.
This is all you need, no IP address, no port, etc. Just look for the appropriate
place to enter the Glo Flat settings provided above in your mobile phone.
Consult the manual of your mobile phone for details on manually loading
internet settings on your mobile phone.
The next step is to activate the Glo Always Micro:
Load your phone with at least N1,000. Note that Glo 200MB Internet browsing
plan requires that you have at least 1 kobo balance before you can browse the
internet.
Send Activate to 127, this will display the code for all Glo prepaid internet
bundles. You can ignore this step and go to the next.
Send 13 to 127, this is the actual command for requesting Glo 200MB Internet
Browsing Bundle. Note that you will receive an SMS confirming the reception
of your request and informing you that activation is pending. You will also
receive an SMS when the internet package is activated. The confirmation SMS
will contain the expiry date of the internet bundle. However, the expiry date is
not sacrosanct. Once you use up the 200MB data limit, your internet access
bundle will be deactivated whether or not the expiry date has been reached.
Note that upload and download are counted in your data usage, so do not
21
22. assume it is only for download. Text Info to 127 to check your remaining data
balance.
Make sure you use your gloflat access point when browsing. If not you will
still be billed on per kb basis even after activating the internet browsing
bundle.
Who needs Glo Always Micro
Glo 200MB internet browsing package is a great deal for browsing directly on
your mobile phone. Glo Always Micro may also make sense if you browse on a
computer. For example, if you use less than 400MB in a 30-day period, the Glo
Always Micro is the best value for money internet browsing bundle for you in
Nigeria today. Glo 200MB internet browsing package is great for entry level
users. It is definitely better than going to a cyber cafe.
Glo 200MB Internet Browsing plan is not for users who do lots of downloads
and uploads. Remember that once you use up your 200MB internet access
allocation, even if it is just 3 hours after you activated it, your internet access
will be deactivated. So if your monthly data need is higher than 400MB, go for
another internet bundle, like the Glo 1GB Internet browsing bundle priced at
N3,000 or the Glo 3GB Internet browsing plan priced at N5,000.
Glo 200MB Internet Browsing plan is great for Glo subscribers who are
currently browsing on per kb. If you are tired of being scared when browsing
or checking your credit balance, each time you open a web page, then Glo
Always Micro is for you. At least it will give you peace of mind. It will alert you
when your data limit is about to be reached. It will also alert when it is about
to expire. N1000 for 200MB data and a peace of mind, Glo Always Micro is
surely worth it.

Internet browsing access codes for bundles activation in Nigeria
To enjoy cost effective internet, you need to activate an internet bundle for
your internet browsing. If not you will be browsing at pay as you go, which is
billed at per kb or per minute bases. Internet browsing on pay as you go is
very expensive, so going for bundled internet access is recommended. Here
we have provided information on Internet browsing activation codes for
various internet bundles offered by networks in Nigeria. The aim is to provide
easy access to activation codes for internet browsing bundles across networks
in Nigeria. To make it more useful, we also included the cost and data limit of
the internet browsing bundles. You will also find info on checking your data
balance.
Networks in Nigeria offer two forms of activation for their internet browsing
bundles. One is the USSD method, where you dial a code ended with the hash
key (#). Once you dial the code, you will receive a response if successful or
unsuccessful. The second method involves sending a code to a number via
SMS. You will receive an SMS if activation is successful. When using a modem,
some come with software that makes it possible to activate browsing
packages without any code, just click the button for the internet browsing
bundle you are interested in on the software interface and it will be activated
automatically.

MTN Internet Cheap Night Browsing affordable internet package from
MTN
26
27. Night internet browsing is very popular in Nigeria because it offers cheap
browsing, and provides internet surfers ample time to search for information
on the internet. Thousands of web surfers book for internet browsing time
each night in Nigeria. Because of this, a number of telecoms companies have
internet services targeted at this group of people. MTN currently offers one of
the cheapest night internet browsing packages in Nigeria.
Most mobile and fixed wireless companies that offer night internet browsing
packages have always retained the attraction of night internet browsing,
which is its affordability. However, they add privacy and convenience to the
package making it a lot more attractive.
As stated earlier MTN has one of the cheapest night internet browsing rates in
Nigeria. At N2,500 monthly for both MTN post-paid and prepaid subscribers,
MTN night internet bundle is competitively priced. MTN night internet
package is active between 9pm to 6am, seven hours of internet browsing time,
every night for 30 days for just N2,500.
However, MTN night internet browsing bundle is limited to 3GB per month,
which is reasonable considering the price and industry standard. This internet
bandwidth limit is provided by MTN in order to prevent abuse by some
customers.
Therefore, if you are one of those fans of night internet browsing, you will
realise huge cost savings by switching MTN night internet package.
You can subscribe to MTN Night internet package with an internet enabled
mobile phone or an internet modem. You can either browse directly on your
mobile phone or use your mobile phone as a modem for connecting your
laptop or desktop computer to the internet. However, the preferred way of
connecting your laptop or desktop computer to the internet is via an internet
modem. Price of MTN FastLink USB internet modem is currently selling for
N8,500 at MTN shops.
To migrate to the MTN Night internet bundle on your mobile phone or
internet modem, SMS 102 to 131. Make sure you have at least N2,500 on your
account before migrating. Once migration is successful N2,500 will
automatically be deducted from your account.
27
28. MTN now offers fast and reliable internet services in Nigeria. Gone are the
days when MTN was playing catchup to other GSM operators in internet
services. Today MTN is leading the way, deploying one of the fastest EDGE
internet networks in Nigeria as well as a high-speed 3G/3.5G HSDPA internet
networks. You should ignore previous negative reviews on MTN internet,
since late 2009 MTN has been improving its internet services.
