How to Build a Website in 1 Day 
It sounds crazy, but I promise, it’s possible!

Plan 
• Prepare your client 
– Give them a step-by-step prep guide 
– Give them access to your resources and tools 
(Kuler, Google Fonts, Pinterest, Seamless 
background links)
Content 
• Have everything BEFORE the session 
• Have all assets, copy and images prepared 
before you begin the build, and make sure 
your client knows what you need 
• Be informed and educated on the industry so 
you can make good suggestions for 
organization of content
Design 
• Know your tools 
• Be confident and eliminate distractions 
• Don’t over-design 
• Coordinate with your developer to make sure 
it’s the most effective design possible
Develop 
• Pull from all your old code 
• Use code already tested for browser compatibility, 
minimize risk 
• Use frameworks such as Bootstrap or Foundation to 
make build go faster 
• Use a CMS to make for easy maintenance 
• Use tools for contact forms like Wufoo, Gravity Forms, 
or Contact Form 7 
• Consider making time for training your client on how to 
use and update
Marketing & Content 
• Make time for training on updates (technical 
and best practices) 
• Analytics for data tracking 
• Social Media setup and maintenance 
• Email marketing
In General 
• Don’t give yourself more work than necessary 
• Prioritize your to-do list based on importance 
• Make a schedule for the day and stick to it 
• Have your client at arm’s length during the 
entire design & build process

Things to Discuss & Review after presentations: • Go over prep guide • Get a firm understanding of needs and expectations from both sides: ask lots and lots of questions! • Preliminary review of goals, sitemap, content and calls to action • Assign homework! Nonprofits should have everything prepared in time for build day! ALL ASSETS & RESOURCES MUST BE SUBMITTED TO YOUR TEAM BY FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31st BY 6PM Send all assets to your project manager. We recommend you set up a Dropbox Folder

  • 8. Plan • Prepare your client – Give them a step-by-step prep guide – Give them access to your resources and tools (Kuler, Google Fonts, Pinterest, Seamless background links)
  • 9. Content • Have everything BEFORE the session • Have all assets, copy and images prepared before you begin the build, and make sure your client knows what you need • Be informed and educated on the industry so you can make good suggestions for organization of content
  • 10. Design • Know your tools • Be confident and eliminate distractions • Don’t over-design • Coordinate with your developer to make sure it’s the most effective design possible
  • 11. Develop • Pull from all your old code • Use code already tested for browser compatibility, minimize risk • Use frameworks such as Bootstrap or Foundation to make build go faster • Use a CMS to make for easy maintenance • Use tools for contact forms like Wufoo, Gravity Forms, or Contact Form 7 • Consider making time for training your client on how to use and update
  • 12. Marketing & Content • Make time for training on updates (technical and best practices) • Analytics for data tracking • Social Media setup and maintenance • Email marketing
  • 13. In General • Don’t give yourself more work than necessary • Prioritize your to-do list based on importance • Make a schedule for the day and stick to it • Have your client at arm’s length during the entire design & build process
