After the first world war, the allies came up with the Treaty of Versailles, which forced Germany to pay unreasonable amounts of compensation to the Allies. This was despite the fact that Germany was not the only country responsible for starting the war, the treaty created a vast amount of resentment among the German public. Food shortages were common and many starved to death The nazis soon became a popular and leading party because it also opposed what the people hated the most, the treaty of Versailles
In 1929, there was the great Wall street crash, this crash spelt disaster for Germany. Germany was still surviving and barely managing to pay the compensations the treaty of Versailles required, only foreign investors, mainly from America was helping Germany to stay afloat. However, when the Wall street crash occurred, the investors withdrew their money from Germany to save their own selves, plunging Germany into further poverty. When the Weimar government first took charge, it’s first course of action was to accept the Treaty of Versailles, this did not go down well with the German public and the continued poverty in Germany worsened the public’s perception of the Weimar government The German public saw how harsh communism was in Russia and feared that it would spread to Germany because of its weak government. The people agreed with The Nazi’s party’s ideals, which included getting rid of the humiliating Treaty of Versailles, and did not want Communism to come to Germany, so they supported the Nazi party.
The nazi party believed in National pride, militarism, and a racially “pure” Germany, a country without Jews. In 1923, the nazi party tried but failed miserably to overthrow the Weimar Government. The leaders were arrested, including Adholf Hitler, but were all given jail sentences due to right wing judges who presided over the case. Adholf Hitler used the hearing to highlight the key faults and weaknesses of the Weimar Government and gained support from the people from this show of courage. From 27,000 members in 1925, the Party grew to 108,000 in 1929. Adholf Hitler used Mein Kampf a book containing his ideas as well as nationalistic beliefs to gain support of the party. Eventually The Nazis became the most powerful and popular party in germany and rose to power in 1933.
The old monarchy rule was replaced by a new democratic government called the weimar republic. This republic is made up of people from the right and left wing extremists. The right wing extremists consists of communist and socialist while the left wing extremists consists of people that were formally from the old monarchy rule whom believed that Germany needs a strong authoritarian govt and they dislike democracy. Due to the different ideology between the right and left wing extremists, there were many issues and conflicts that arise. This period is also known as the period of crisis as Germany faced many social, economical as well as political problems.
From 1924-29, Germany became relatively stable under the leadership of Gustac stresemann. He was appointed as Chancellor in 1924 and he helped Germany to rebuild herself after world war 1. In 1924,, an agreement called the Dawes plan was signed between American banks and the German government, in which the American banks lent money to Germany to help it pay for its reparations. In 1926, Germany was admitted to the League of Nations, which gave her a good international stance and the ability to veto legislation after Stresemann's insistence on entering as a permanent member.
During the years, Germany’s progress were mainly funded by overseas loans, which increases the nation's debts.Their overall trade decreased and unemployment rose. Stresemann's reforms did not relieve the underlying weaknesses of Weimar but simply gave the appearance of a stable democracy. Stresemann died in 1929, ending the golden era of germany. At this period, Germany faces a even bigger problem as the great depression started. With their nation’s debt piling high, Germany plunged into despair.
With the economic market crashing in Germany, many began to turn to crime, giving rise to general unrest and unruliness in Germany.
Nazi’s hard-line way of leadership proved to be decisive during the time of crisis, with Hitler at the helm of the Nazi party, the Nazi party grew in popularity and began to agree with the Nazi’s viewpoints.
There are several factors which can lead Singapore to the imagined future of 2061. They are, discrimination, the lack of natural resources and finally, loyalty.
There is only a minority of Muslim Singaporeans, while there is an overwhelming number of Chinese Singaporeans. This was in a way, similar to the Germany, who had a minority of Jewish people. However, the people who face discrimination most of all would be foreign workers. the plans for housing for foreign workers at Serangoon Gardens met with a petition from its residents. Residents said they were concerned about security, safety, litter, noise, theft, and property values if the 1,000 workers moved into the housing estate. Discrimination against the Jews, who were considered unpure, was also strife in Germany, and it lead to disaster.
After the first world war, the allies came up with the Treaty of Versailles, which forced Germany to pay unreasonable amounts of compensation to the Allies, therefore food shortages were common and many starved to death. In times of desperation, people would turn to ruling parties who are able to provide for them.
Unless everyone’s life gets saved by a person from another race! Solution 1: Extreme importance, if school keeps drilling fact that you should get along with someone of another race, kids will listen. Teachers must also constantly encourage cohesion, and not speak of ANY race discriminately. Solution 2: By reassuring those who are already discrimnating against another race that their worries were unfounded, they will be more open to other such ideas in the future, decreasing their discrimination. Also, by letting them see it from the viewpoint of the other party, it will probably make them think again about their decision, and hopefully critically think about everything.
Because older generations who are discriminate against others will surely pass it on to their descendants. Even if school continues to teach, family teaching ultimately plays a part as well.
Because singapore is a multi-racial society, going into a war and attacking Malaysia is super stupid because this will definitely cause an uproar in the malay community in singapore. Moreover, this will just increase discrimination and render all proposed measures from previously USELESS. Just get resources from other countries, there isn’t a choice.
