2. 16th of February
Finally the day I’ve been waiting for so
long came. I was really excited about
travelling to Matera, but at the same time,
I was pretty afraid of flying by plane.
As I met my classmates and teachers
in the airport, we passed the gates and
went inside the aircraft.
We arrived in Milan and ate prosciutto
sandwiches (to finally feel the Italian
spirit). After that, we flew to Bari and then
took the taxi to Matera.
4. It was 10 pm and we finally arrived at
Palace Hotel, to meet our hosting families.
Gaia became my new Italian friend, and
her parents became my 2nd family for that
week. After we went home, in
Montescaglioso, we spent a few hours
talking and then I went to sleep. Even
though I was tired, I was really happy and
I kept thinking about the following days.
6. 17th of February
My first day in Matera started early. We went
to the official welcome, we listened to speeches
and talked to pupils from different countries. At
12:30 we had lunch at a nice restaurant.
After that, we went to the treasure hunting
in Sassi. Besides answering the maths questions,
I really enjoyed the walk through the historical
place and the stunning views.
Don’t you think this day wasn’t tiring? It was,
our feet hurt, but it was definitely worth.
8. 18th of February
This day was even longer. We left for
Metaponto very early, by bus. First we
saw the ruins of a temple dedicated to
Hera, the Greek goddess, and where
people believe that Pythagoras used to
pray.
9. Next, we visited a museum rich in
Greek history and full of ancient objects.
The guide told us a lot of things about the
people who lived there.
10. 19th of February
This Wednesday was the most tiring and
awesome day. We left Matera for Naples
before the sun raised, and returned late at
night. After 4 hours spent in the bus, we
finally arrived at the exposition of the
nervous system. There we had some
interesting experiments and then we
watched a funny sketch called
’Frankenstein’.
As we were all starving, we ate some
huge, tasty pieces of pizza.
13. After we full filed ourselves with
pizza, we had a walk through the center of
Naples. It was the most beautiful place I
have seen so far. We went shopping and
then we walked across the
seafront, taking pictures and admiring the
sea waving. On our way, we visited a
castle. The views I’ve seen were
amazing, the wind blowing, the smell of
the sea, everything was unforgettable.
And the best part about it were the people
I took that walk with. The atmosphere
was friendly, happy, it was a great day.
16. 20th of February
Our last day spent in Matera was a
little bit sad. In the morning we went to
the Center of Space Geodesy, where we
saw a telescope and we experienced the
sensation of imbalance. Also, our guide
explained us what is their job there.
We returned in Matera and had our last
lunch at ’Sapere e Sapori’. After that, we
went to school where we acted. We were
all nervous, but in the end, all the
sketches were awesome and some of
them even funny.
18. Then we had the bye-bye buffet. All
the hosting families brought food, and we
ate, took pictures and talked, sharing
opinions, and being a little bit sad.
As it was the last night, all the students
in Comenius were invited at a party. We
had a lot of fun dancing and, for a few
hours we forgot about our leaving.

And the day we didn’t wish to exist
came. With tears in our eyes and great
memories, we said goodbye after the best
days I’ve ever had.
This meeting of the Comenius project
was the best thing that ever happened to
me. I want to thank everyone for making
this possible and I promise you, my
friends,t hat we’ll meet again someday.
I miss you all!
