1. What is google+
Developed under the codename Emerald Sea, Google+ is
basically Google's latest attempt at creating a social
network. Google is cannily calling it a "project", rather
than a "product" - perhaps to avoid comparison with its
less successful social products. Google reckons that current
online networks (no names mentioned) simply don't cut
the mustard and that's why it's launching its own version.
According to Google's official blog
2. What is the privacy about
google+
Most social networks, Facebook included, have run into
trouble over privacy concerns at some point or another, so
what is Google+ doing to address it? You'll be able to alter
your visibility settings so that only your name and photo will
appear online to people that aren't in your network.
However, if you're in a circle on a friend's public profile,
then your picture will appear on there (but clicking on it
wouldn't go anyway if your privacy settings are on). You'll be
able to assign different levels of visibility to different
3. When can I get it
Google+ can currently only be accessed with a special Field
Trial invitation, which Google has been sending out at
random to Gmail users. There's no set date for a full launch,
but we would guess that it won't be too long before
Google+ goes live to everyone. In the meantime, you can
check out the demo, as long as you have a Google ID.
4. Will Google+ deliver the same local
benefits?
Even though Google+ is impacting search results in a big
way, scalability for brands on the social network is limited
until Google opens up an API for Google+ to anyone
needing access. Unfortunately, that means brands must
spend significant time to create and maintain Google+
Brand pages for their brick and mortar locations.
5. Anatomy of a Google+ local
marketing pilot program
CMOs should talk to their teams about the potential
benefits of starting now with Google+. Brands choosing to
move forward with a local marketing pilot program should
start by:
1. Choosing local entities that already have an active local
social strategy to participate in the pilot
2. Enrolling a manageable number of locations in the pilot:
five-ten percent of all locations to start
3. Building all Google+ pages to be locally relevant by
using keywords that describe the business, services,
location and areas served.
6. Are we thinking locally to boost
visibility and success?
Some national and regional brands have found great success
leveraging local dealers, agents, distributors, retailers and
franchisees to boost the national brand along with local visibility
and sales. Automated local search marketing technologies help
brands scale programs focused on Google Places, Bing Local and
more. This makes it easier to build and maintain a national web of
visibility made up of hundreds or thousands of local entities. If
your local and search marketing teams aren't working to leverage
local in this fashion, ask them why as soon as possible.
7. How Chrome Can Help You Get Your
Ex Back
Do you hate how things ended between you and your
ex and are you still trying to get him/her back? Google
apparently knows what that feels like and wants you
to use Chrome to set things right. Or at least, that’s
what it looks like judging from Google’s.

latest TV commercial for Chrome, which debuted last night.
9. What most of these ads have in
common, though
Is that they don’t focus on technology so much,
but what that technology can do for its users. No
doubt, that’s a pretty effective advertising
technique. Whether Chrome and Google can help
you get your ex back, though, is a different
question.

15. Games in Google+: fun that fits
your schedule
My family has a games closet. Inside you’ll find a few
decks of cards, two decades’ worth of board games and a
Twister mat for those times when we’re feeling limber.
Playing games is a great way for us to spend quality time
with each other (and a little healthy competition never
hurt anyone either).
