3. Cutting tools and its Characteristics
 Cutting tool is a device, used to remove unwanted materials
from given work piece for carrying out the machining
process, cutting tool is fundamental and requirement
 A cutting tool must have the following characteristics:
 Hardness
 Hot Hardness
 Toughness

4. Requirements of Cutting tools
 Tools must resist abrasive wear.
 It must be capable of supporting and retaining smooth,
sharp edges.
 They must be rigid
 Cutting and clearance angles must be carefully selected.

drills or drill bits. Various cutting tools are available for drilling, but the most
common is the twist drill.
