“LAN of Things” Accelerators and PDC – Personal Data Center
Product Brief
“LAN of Things” Accelerators [LOT] are advanced I/O sub-systems [SOC’s] that bring the most
significant improvement to x86 architecture since its introduction 40+ years ago and address
fundamental inhibitors of the proliferation and mass adoption of IOT, AI/ML, edge computing.
LOT’s allow systems integrators (MobilFlex included) to build the PDC – Personal Data Center,
a new breed of high-performance edge systems that are affordable to all budgets (starting at
$1,500, like a Mac PC).
Depending on the use case, LOT’s can be designed to be used either as co-processors, or as
chipsets, or as connectivity layer, or as computational storage pre-controller, etc.
Features and benefits:
a. Complete the infrastructure on the last thirty yards, by unifying all currently disjoint sub-
networks (data, entertainment, automation) and “things” in and around the house;
• Providing interoperability between any connected devices;
b. Eliminate all I/O limitations and bottlenecks in x86 architecture;
• Offload I/O processing from the main CPU and execute it independently;
• Allow up to 16 concurrent M2M transactions without any performance degradation;
c. More than triple x86 architecture “horsepower” with no increase in manufacturing cost;
• When used as chipset replacement, particularly in I/O intensive environments;
• Allow up to 100% CPU utilization (like mainframes), or 80% more compute power;
• Support full three users or VM’s per core (like mainframes);
d. Provide support and resources (additional compute, memory and storage) for advanced
features and functionalities that now require cloud access to be meaningful, like:
• AI/ML, personal assistants, personal cloud, dumb access BYOD, etc.
• Allow the offload of many “system maintenance” tasks into inexpensive processors;
e. Provide the framework for fundamental improvements in the way technology is consumed:
• Native support for NLP, Lo-Code, No-Code, voice-controlled applications;
• Allow the re-design of the file system;
• Significantly improved system security;
f. Most importantly, LOT’s will allow systems integrators to meaningfully differentiate and
escape “The PC Trap” of making from selling PC’s less than Walmart selling junk;
• This will allow them to 20x the profits they currently make from selling PC’s;
Computational Storage – Fundamental building block of the PDC
Regardless of the use case and architectural variation implemented, PDC requires an advanced
storage system that is able to provide quick and intelligent [TBD] access to all data (system files
or user content) AND to be able to support multiple concurrent transactions.
In all likelihood, this will require the design of a brand-new concept of memory/SSD controller.
• While the general architectural idea and “desired features” are well understood, details
will have to be determined with the memory/SSD expert partner, when selected.
Block Diagrams
Using some block diagrams from Intel and (currently defunct) VIA Technology, we depict how
“LAN of Things” (the yellow block) can be used in x86 architecture.

“LAN of Things” as Co-Processor
Using LOT as Co-Processor is simplest implementation that does not require any modifications
to the operating system or the system software stack.
In many respects, the LOT as Co-Processors mimics the functionality of an advanced “IOT
Gateway” with several improvements:
• Local intelligence allows superior processing and decision making;
• Can aggregate unlimited “data generation” end-points;
• Benefits from local storage;
Industrial applications, smart building and cities, embedded applications, will probably be the
most common use cases.

Replaces South Bridge & Connectivity
Using LOT as Chipset is the most beneficial implementation but also the most complex.
• It allows the most significant performance improvements, provided that operating system
and system software stacks are adjusted accordingly;
• This is the implementation where all the claims we make will be true;
• This is the implementation that, in time, we expect to become “what’s next after the PC”,
the “Personal Data Center” that will replace “the cloud” for families, small businesses, etc.

“LAN of Things” as Connectivity and Computational Storage Pre-Controller
Replaces South Bridge & Connectivity
Using LOT as Connectivity Layer and Computational Storage Pre-Controller is the most practical
implementation. It allows all the performance improvements to be implemented, like as a
Chipset, but it is much simpler to design because avoids the complex work of replicating all the
controllers and “system management” tasks from a typical Chipset.
The penalty is that it will add about $200 to the BOM of the system and we that expect many
systems integrators to prefer the tradeoff.
Important: Conceivable, this implementation (with proper software support) can be designed and
packaged as standalone product to be marketed to systems integrators, not only for edge
computing, but for HPC servers and even data centers servers.
