12. 12. Pi Ponderings continued In 1610, German Ludolph van Ceulen completed his calculation of pi to 35 decimal places. This approximation was engraved on his tombstone, and pi is still referred to in Germany as the Ludolphine number. The digit 7 occurs 7 times in the first 99 digits of pi!
