The web is dead
1. The Web is Dead
In the present form the world wide web will be
dead soon. Apps have started overtaking it. No
one will type a URL after sometime, they will go
to Apps directly. Here is small stat for you.
According to flurry analytics, Consumers spent
94 minutes per day using mobile apps,
compared to 72 minutes of web surfing, Mobile
Apps surfing is reducing the web services by
every day basis.
So if you are planning to launch a
portal. Drop the plan. Launch an
App.
2. App sessions are Rising
What does this mean to you.
It means people are browsing in an Application
more than they browse the web.
In more than 10 countries the App sessions
have increased at phenomenal rate of more
than 300%/year. According to one App
analytics firm, china is leading at growth at
more than 1000% growth. India still playing at
catch up game at close to 400%.
Most of the world is at 200%.
If you are serious about mobility
The next step – Evolve
Make an App for web/mobile.
3. Search is Dead
Mobile search will be dead soon.
In a popular forum Steve jobs commented,
“people are not searching on I phone, they go to
App directly” This is becoming relevant for all
the Smartphone's.
If you want to search Music, will you go to
a Music App or Google?
People are following the natural instincts on
Mobile. As the App Penetration increases people
will target Apps which is relevant to the them
instead of searching the web or more specifically
mobile web.
4. Follow Mobile User Trends elsewhere
User Behaviour on mobile will
overshadow web as Smartphone will
emerge as a primary device.
Consumers expect the primary
behaviour patterns in all the secondary
devices. Initially they expected mobile to
work as web on PC but now they will
need the convenience of Smartphone or
other devices like tablets and
computers.
Mobile user trends will become the
primary trends to be followed across
devices.
5. Web browsers will follow the Mobile browsing behaviour
Browsers alone will be dead.
Chrome from Google is taking the
lead. It is replicating the relevant
Apps versions on web.
Relevant icons on browsers open up the
browsing sessions directly . The future
icons will go independent of the
browsers. They will as good as
documents icons on your desktop. Open
the relevant icon to follow your
passion/stories.
6. Similar experience across devices
Devices will converge, the user will look
for similar behaviour across devices
including TV.
It’s like watching half of the movie on TV
and rest on Tablet. The back end systems
should be intelligence enough to notice
the change and manage complexity.
Convergence =
Screens +experience
Apps have the potential to Deliver
the similar experience across
Screens.
7. Downloading soon will be a thing in past
The future – no one will download
anything.
People are moving from a download
led behaviour to a browsing one.
Music, movies , images, Games, etc. All
services will be on cloud for you to
stream and experience.
It will be plug and play
If it is not simpler than this, people
will not adopt the service.
8. Libraries will be your biggest services
Two of the biggest services will be
music on demand & Movies on
demand. Third could be Books on
demand or Games on Demand.
Other such services which rely
heavily on long tail or libraries will
become biggest.
If you are one such provider, build
the long tail.
9. Data Will explode
The growth year on year is more
than 100% in Developing nations
and elsewhere too..
Data charges will be extremely
cheap and affordable, the pipe
will explode.
Data/3G pricing are very high, the
caps on Data will go down in the
coming years and will be a
standard rate.
