2. GREENSTICK FRACTURE
Fracture is a crack but does not completely
break through
Most common in children
Bones softer & more flexible, making it
harder to break than bend
Difficult to diagnose because not all signs &
symptoms of a broken bone come up
Treatment requires immobilization of bone
for proper growth
3. SPIRAL FRACTURE
Fracture caused by a twisting force
Referred to as a Torsion Fracture
Creates an oblique fracture around & through
bone
Similar & compared to oblique fractures
Difficult to treat: break is helical (spiral),
pattern of a corkscrew
Treatment involves months in a cast and
possible surgery
4. OBLIQUE FRACTURE
Fracture where break runs diagonal to shaft/
axis of bone
Result of a sharp angled/slanted blow to the
bone
Compared and similar to spiral fractures, but
with a straight break, not corkscrew pattern
Most common in long bones (humerus,
femur)
5. TRANSVERSE FRACTURE
Fracture in where bone is broken straight
across-perpendicular to way bone runs
Results of a sharp, direct blow or stress
fracture caused by prolonged running
Break can cause misalignment in process of
repair
Reduction or replacement may be needed for
full recovery
