SUMMIT SUPPORTERS
3. Dear Millennial Leadership Summit Participants,
On behalf of Mobilize.org, American Express, Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation, John L. and James S. Knight
Foundation, Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund, Lumina
Foundation for Education, Peter G. Peterson Foundation
and The New Community College at CUNY, it is my
pleasure to welcome you to New York City and to the Mobilize.org Millennial
Leadership Summit.
Since our founding in 2002, Mobilize.org has hosted 10 summits and
invested in 34 Millennial-led projects that address issues such as financial
literacy, environmental sustainability, college completion, and the challenges
young veterans face adjusting to civilian life. This special summit reconvenes
funded teams, summit participants and non-profit partners to offer
collaborative learning opportunities, skill-building workshops and speaking
opportunities that allow you to share your challenges, successes and tell us
how investments from Mobilize.org and our partners have allowed you to
scale and elevate your work, and how we can do even more to support you
and other Millennials across the country.
The Millennial Generation is at a landmark civic, social and economic
crossroads; it holds an endless potential for civic innovation while facing
overwhelming socio-economic opposition. The Mobilize.org mission is to
empower and invest in Millennials to create and implement solutions to
social problems and we believe that honing our generation’s collaborative
spirit is key to helping us break through these barriers. The Millennial
Leadership Summit provides you with exclusive networking opportunities
with your peers, philanthropic partners and members of the corporate social
responsibility community– all who are committed to supporting your work
and continued leadership development. This weekend, I encourage you to
share your own experiences and best practices, reconnect with old friends,
make new ones, find new ways to collaborate and enjoy the Big Apple.
Congratulations on being selected to attend the Millennial Leadership
Summit and welcome to New York City!
Keep Mobilizin’,
Maya Enista Smith
CEO, Mobilize.org
4. Dear Millennial Leaders,
On behalf of American Express, it is my honor to welcome you to the first
Mobilize.org Millennial Leadership Summit in New York City. Our team is
thrilled to support Mobilize.org as it invests in you, the leaders of today and
the emerging leaders of tomorrow.
At American Express, we appreciate the impact that talented leaders can have
on business and society as a whole. We therefore extend our commitment
to leadership development to a broader community, which is why one of our
three platforms for philanthropy is Developing New Leaders for Tomorrow.
Our grant to Mobilize.org and the Millennial Leadership Summit continues
our support to prepare and develop high potential emerging leaders to tackle
important issues of our generation.
Throughout the next few days, you will learn from each other as much as
from the thoughtful agenda of speakers. I’m pleased that you will have a
chance to hear from my colleagues, Mary Hines, vice president at American
Express, and Christine Rhee, manager of Corporate Social Responsibility,
to hear more about why our company invests in leadership, and in the
millennial generation in particular.
We hope you use your time here to cultivate new relationships, discuss new
ways of collaborating, and to further elevate your work and the impact in
your communities. Congratulations on your achievements thus far, and for
taking the steps to continue in your leadership journey. We look forward to
hearing and learning from you and we congratulate you on the great work
you’ve done in service to others.
Sincerely,
Timothy J. McClimon

Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility
5. Dear Friends:
It is a great pleasure to welcome everyone to the 2011 Mobilize.org Millennial
Leadership Summit.
New York City is the place to be for the leaders and entrepreneurs who are
thinking big, working hard, and realizing their greatest ambitions. If you can
make it here, you can make it anywhere, and there is no better place than
New York for someone to get his or her ideas off the ground. That is why
we are proud to welcome Mobilize.org, its summit participants, and its past
award winners as they discuss their ongoing efforts to drive civic activism
and create lasting change in their communities. Together, we look forward
to everything they will accomplish as we work toward making our ever-more
interconnected world healthier and more sustainable.
On behalf of all New Yorkers, I am also delighted to welcome all of our
visitors, and I hope you have a chance this week to experience firsthand the
excitement that continues to attract the world’s most dynamic companies
