  11. before i go into our product, i want to quickly step back and trace some history. starting in 1996, with the commercialization of the internet, web pages started taking on media like properties
  12. this was best exemplified by yahoo
  13. a few years later, as search functionality became pervasive
  14. we came to see google as a media property.
  15. with the rise of social networks and social media
  16. like facebook, people and their social graphs turned into media channels themselves
  17. in 2007, the measly 140 character status update
  18. Became a powerful medium and distribution mechanism in its own right
  19. and last year, with the rise of location based services
  20. like foursquare and gowalla, we saw how places become forms of online media
  21. And, finally, we believe the next frontier to become connected to the internet will be real world objects.
  22. and that’s exactly why we created stickybits
  23. by enabling anybody to attach any kind of digital content to any object
  24. The beauty of Stickybits is that it works with all standard UPC codes that are found on hundreds of millions if not billions of objects around the globe so brands do not have to modify their existing packaging.
  25. we imagine use cases to attach digital greetings to physical gifts, or appending video instructions to an ikea box. here are some case studies that took us by surprise. if you scan this sign in downtown phoenix, you can see reviews, comments and suggestions about local bars, boutiques and coffee shops. we have seen people use stickybits for extending the label with wine reviews or pairing information. one woman used stickybits to chronicle her family trip through disney world. i even heard from a band manager that is getting tattooed with a bar code this summer so that people can scan her and hear music clips from the band she is promoting
