South Africa was founded in 1652 by Jan van Riebeeck. It has a diverse population that speaks several main languages including Afrikaans, Xhosa, and Zulu. The environment is mostly savannah grasslands and deserts in the north. It is located at the southern tip of Africa and has natural resources including minerals, timber, and agriculture. The current government is a constitutional democracy established in 1994 after the end of apartheid.
