Asch conducted a study in 1956 to investigate how individuals would conform to an obvious wrong majority. Participants were shown line drawings where they had to match a sample line to one of three comparison lines. Even though the correct answer was clear, many participants conformed to the majority who gave incorrect answers at least once, showing the power of conformity.
