Photosynthesis EQ:What resources do plants need to make food? How does plants and animals help each other? Warmup Review: What does an energy pyramid represent? Why does energy run out by the time it gets to a 3rd level or 4th level consumer?
Photosynthesis is like Baking Make a cake Ingredients Eggs Milk Flour Oven/Pan Heat Gives energy Cake mix turns to cake. Make Sugar(glucose) Ingredients Carbon Dioxide Water Plant/Chlorophyll Sunlight Gives energy Ingredients are turned into SUGAR!!(glucose)
Photosynthesis Photosynthesis is a chemical reaction just like cake! What do we need for photosynthesis? Ingredients: Water Carbon Dioxide ENERGY!! Sunlight
Sugar is like a battery When an organism needs energy, they can burn sugar.
Oxygen When a plant makes sugar there is leftovers. Very important for us! Making sugar leaves extra oxygen which plants breathe out. We breathe in.
Oxygen burns Why do we need oxygen? To BURN Sugar We burn sugar for energy. Burning sugar makes Carbon Dioxide
Carbon Dioxide Who needs carbon dioxide? Why do plants need carbon dioxide? How do animals help plants? How do plants help animals?
Summary Sunlight Carbon Dioxide Water Oxygen Sugar
Carbon Dioxide-Oxygen Cycle
Review What two chemicals do plants need to make sugar? What do plants need from sunlight to be able to turn chemicals into food? What do plants breathe out when they are done with photosynthesis? How do animals get the sugar? Why do animals need the sugar? What do the animals release when they breathe out?
Draw a diagram with a plant and an animal. Include the following things. Show the plant taking in Carbon Dioxide and water, Sunlight Show what the plant releases Show what the animal takes in Show what the animal releases. Show sugar
