How Croatia Got It’s
Name
Brief Introduction
 Croatia is a country in Europe
 The capital is Zagreb
 They joined the Euro block on July 1st 2013
 The currency is Kuna
 The official language is Croatian

 Dialing Code: 385
Tourist Attractions 1
1. One tourist attraction is the Pula Arena.
The arena is the 6th largest surviving
Roman arena. This Roman arena is one of
the best preserved Roman monuments
in all of Croatia. It was built in the 1st Century AD. It
can seat 26,000 people. In the 15th Century AD, some of
the stones were taken to build houses. This luckily
stopped before the whole structure was destroyed.
Tourist Attractions 2
2. Another tourist attraction is Rovinj.
It is one of the most visually attractive
towns in the Mediterranean.
Rovinj is an active fishing port, and
visitors can take boats to offshore islands. A part of
Rovinj has been described as an outstanding scenic
wonder.
3. Hvar is another tourist attraction. This is one of the
most popular places. There are olive
trees,
fruit orchards, and lavender fields, it
makes
up most of the agricultural landscape.
Hvar
is a popular port for yachts especially
in the
summer.
Traditional Food
 Dried-Cured Ham (also known as prosciutto) is
something Croatia is famous for. It is essential to
have in every kind of celebration. It is also in
most restaurant menus.
 Black Risotto comes from Dalmatia. The main
ingredients are cuttlefish and squid. The color
is from the squids ink and that also gave it it’s
name.
 Lamb on the spit is the most popular
way of preparing lamb in Croatia. The
whole lamb is roasted slowly above hot coals.
Croatia’s National Soccer
Team
 Croatia’s national soccer team was founded in 1912.
The highest FIFA ranking they had was 3rd in
January, 1999. The lowest FIFA ranking they ever
had was 125 that was in March, 1994. The team has
a nickname and that name is The Blazers. One of
Croatia’s home stadiums is Stadium Maksimir. The
stadium is located in Zagreb, Croatia. It got it’s
name because it’s in the neighborhood of Maksimir.
It fits 38,923 people. It opened on May 5th, 1912.
How Croatia Got It’s Name
 Croatia got it’s name many years ago. It was in the
Medieval Latin times where Croatia got it’s name.
There are still some castles in Croatia from the
Medieval times. The castles that are still standing
today are popular tourist attractions.
Croatian Airlines
 The Croatian Airlines was founded on August
20, 1989. Croatian Airlines flies to 27 different
destinations. The headquarters is in Zagreb, Croatia.
The focus cities for the airline are
Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar, Frankfurt, Munich, and of
course Zagreb. Croatian Airlines is also a member of
Star Alliance.
Croatia’s Currency
 The Croatian currency has been Kuna since 1994.
The currency is going to change around 2015. This is
because Croatia has just joined the euro union on
July 1st 2013. The currency will then change to
euros.
Self Reflection
 It was really interesting doing my project on
Croatia. I found it interesting because I learned a lot
of new things. A lot of things I wasn’t even
expecting to learn. I feel I did very good on the
project. I spent a lot of time and effort. My opinion
on Croatia has changed since I first went to Croatia.
It is a very interesting country. There is a lot to learn
about Croatia.

 I have been to Croatia 7 times. It is an important
part of my background.
