Pinellas County School Board faced budget cuts and closed two schools, merging them with others to form new fundamental middle schools. This transition caused disruption but the new schools are now thriving. However, the expanding fundamental program risks exceeding capacity at the district's sole fundamental high school. The school board must choose between hoping student numbers don't grow too large, overcrowding the existing high school, or opening new fundamental high school programs to meet demand and better serve students.
