Image nine resonates with me because it represents women "taking a seat at the table" in business
and I believe more women need to be at the table. The photograph showing a woman in the back
row reminds me of a theme from Sheryl Sandberg's book, Lean In, where she urges women to take a
seat at the table versus sitting on the side of the room. After graduating from Smith College, where I
was empowered by intellectually curious and ambitious women, and then transitioning to banking, a
male–dominated industry, I recognized early in my career how few women there were in executive
roles. As a career driven woman I became inspired to change the status quo and promote the career
advancement of women. In my professional career, I have taken several...show more content...
I learned that the bank sponsored employee led groups and I was passionate about creating a group
to support women since one did not exist. I formed and led a founding committee that was successful
in fulfilling the necessary requirements for approval and funding. These responsibilities included
creating a charter and bylaws, demonstrating firm–wide interest, and proposing future programming
to support our mission. After gaining approval and funding from human resources, our founding
committee secured Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to speak at the launch event. The launch for our
group was so popular that we had to a find a new venue to accommodate the 100+ employees who
wanted to attend. Next, we obtained the bank's chief technology officer as our executive sponsor, the
only female executive. After the launch, I went on to lead programming, which included organizing
"Lean In" circles for women at varying levels, a roundtable chat with our president & CEO, and
lunch & learns with our chief technology officer. Within the first year the group grew to over 100

As a semi–privileged white teenager, a member of my school's student government, my school's
representative in my county's Youth Leadership Program (YLP), and the winner of two Presidential
Volunteer Service Awards (PVSA), I may appear to have lived a charmed life. But, my life started
with serious problems which I never could have overcome without my own diligence and my loved
ones' unconditional support.
As a baby, my speech and social skills developed unusually slowly. At fifteen months old, the state
of Massachusetts flagged me as having "pervasive developmental delays, not otherwise specified"
and recommended me for an early intervention program. My parents, worried I might never live a
normal life, agreed to put me in it. When I was three,...show more content...
Hence, from third grade on, I was considered "twice–exceptional" and went to a completely different
elementary school for advanced academics, still on an IEP.
Switching to a new school was not entirely positive, however. I had to leave most of my friends
behind, and the competitive environment made me a clear target for bullies and induced chronic
anxiety. I also gained weight, which elicited more harassment. This abysmal cycle climaxed towards
the end of third grade in a public cacophony of emotion, after which my homeroom teacher
recommended me a reputable therapist she knew. I will refer to him with the pseudonym, "Dr. J."
My sessions with Dr. J thoroughly remedied my sorrow. Not only did he give great advice, we
played board games to build my interpersonal skills. A parent often joined us as we talked, letting
me vent to him/her as well. The results were tangible: I became calmer, my weight problems eased,
and my social skills improved. With support from my mother, father, Dr. J, and teachers, I made it
through advanced academics in elementary school with good grades, improving significantly in

Essay 1 Sitting at my desk at home, a crushing feeling crept up on me. I didn't know what to think.
I'm not going to make it, am I. It was already midway through junior year of high school, and
having just calculated my GPA requirements for many of the colleges I had wanted to go to, I
realized that my grades were not even close to what I expected them to be. I guess I had been in
denial for so long that I let them slip this far. How could I have let this happen? Where was mymind
when I needed to study and do homework? Why did so many stupid things like watching T.V. or
going out with friends or just mindlessly waste my time on the internet? I felt an awful combination
of disappointment, anger, panic, and frustration....show more content...
I worked so much harder. I began to pay attention in class, studied my notes everyday instead of
cramming the night before the test, participated in class, did my extra credit, and gave it my all.
Soon, people began to notice. My friends said I looked and acted stronger, more driven. My
teachers said they noticed my improvement, saying things such as: "I've noticed the change in
effort you've been putting in my class, I'm very impressed." "You're test grades have gotten
higher, keep up the good work!" These observations from my teachers and peers satisfied me, but
what truly made everything worth it were my grades. In every class I took, my grades shot up at
least 10 percent from the previous semester. I actually learned things in my classes instead of
carelessly writing down notes to spit all the information out on a test before I would quickly and
surely forget it. For once, I was actually happy with my schoolwork. Things were finally working
out how I planned it to be. I felt accomplishment that my hard work finally paid off, but I still kept
in mind that my original goals were still far from reach. Nevertheless, I was happy about all the
things I had changed and improved in the short amount of time I had left. When I first realized
my grades were below my expectations and that I wouldn't be able to go to the school of my dreams,
I was devastated, but at the end, after I worked hard and got the grades I wanted, I was okay with it.

Four years ago, I was eagerly listening to Alex McDaniel, an award–winning journalist share her

Personal Narrative: My Life In College
Believe it or not, I began my life in college. My mother moved me to Austin when I was just six
months old. She was only nineteen, studying as a full time student at the University of Texas. She
was also raised in a small town with a strong family. However, conceiving a child at such a young
age in college only added another obstacle of becoming a single mother while being a student. After
years of dedication and hard work, she graduated with a 4.0 GPA in nursing. Shortly after, she
became what she aspired to be; a registered nurse, through the support of her family and drive to
overcome adversity. Watching my mother push through hardships has taught me to set even higher
goals for myself. As I grew older, these family traits and values became

Corrected PS Growing up in a small townhouse, I would see my father only once a week on
Sundays because he was working long hours the rest of the week. When meeting him, I would
become very emotional because I knew that the reason I could not see him other days of the week
was because he was working. My father's hard work and perseverance gave me the drive to
become someone that he would be proud of. My goal is to become someone that he can say to
himself it was worth the long and strenuous hours spent at work. When I started my undergraduate
career, I did not have the intentions of entering this field of study. I wanted to run the family
business and make it successful. My father said, "If you want to enter the business and are willing
to do it every day, then work the entire summer." I was eager to start, arriving on time and being
the last one to leave. The enthusiasm soon abated, I could see that I no longer desired to run the
family business and did not enjoy my time working there. The end of the summer my father sat me

I learned new studying techniques and went to office hours when needed. But I still had little idea

My dad always says, "bravery is being afraid and doing it anyway." Until the age of 15, I had
never stepped into a school, until one day, I gathered my courage and began my academic
journey. I was homeschooled for most of my young life. While I studied the standard subjects, I
was able to learn in an environment completely free and focused on me. It was an amazing and
unique way to grow up, but it was also a bubble. I was unaware of much of the world around me,
and as someone who was, at the time, quite shy, never really explored. I spent the first semester of
highschool in an online program, but I did not like it and decided to transfer. I knew nothing

At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward
reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure
but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very
basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit
discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I
enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in
my everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into
the action unless it relates to something I am very...show more content...
You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the
same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was
intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing
are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't
personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the
most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and
professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to
write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to.
Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am
assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find
myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this
would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the
majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and
therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume
every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the

that was interesting about the travel was the fact that during one of flights I was sat beside a drunk

I had family here. When we got all our stuff and headed out in a car I noticed nothing different but
that might have been due to the fact I was kind of fatigued and the fact we were in a bigger city.
On the travel to my cousins I fell asleep, and didn't get woken up until we reached their house.
When I got out of the car I was too tired and was way to jetlagged to realize how different things

Essay on Returning to College as an Adult
Returning to College as an Adult Coming to college as an adult, we have many expectations and
preconceptions of what college will or will not be. The expectations we have can influence our
college life for the better or the worse. My experience since starting college has been an interesting
one. People have misconceptions about college because they do not know what to expect. After
doing some research, I have concluded that there are three major factors that are often
misunderstood about college life. The first is the financial aspect of college. Second, is the
relationship between the professors and students. Third is time management. These three factors
play an important role in why people are afraid to go down the path to college....show more content...
There are many options available from low–tuition state universities, financial aid, employer tuition
reimbursement. In some cases, you can be eligible for various types of grants. Being a single
mother or just shopping at a certain supermarket can make you eligible. There is a misconception
about the professors (sometimes called instructors). Questions arise such as; will they make time
for me when I need the extra help? How large will the class be? Will they understand that this may
not be as easy for me as it is for others? These questions enter our minds and may seem
discouraging at times. Through my personal experiences I have found that classroom atmospheres
may not always be for everyone. However, that does not mean college life is not for everyone. You
can take many alternative routes. You can take advantage of telecourses, online courses, accelerated
courses and many other options that may be more suitable. My professors have been great. They
come in earlier to help and return e–mails and/or phone calls promptly. You also expect to be able to
accomplish your work quickly and with minimal stress, leaving more time to work and spend
with your family. You expect to be able to do what you did in high school and still pass. However
college, by far, is nowhere as easy as most anticipate. You have to study, unlike high school, where
you could float on by with A's by seldomly attending class. College is harder than high school and

demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college
has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a

I definitely learned a great deal from our discussions about this book. I really did not like it at all
until the class sat down and analyzed the many levels Conrad addressed in his story. I thought the
endless paradoxes in the book, once brought to light, were actually very interesting. My favorite
section, however, was the poetry unit. I really enjoyed the poem ?The Blues? by Billy Collins the
most because of my respect for music. I think Collins really makes a point in his poem about just
how important music is and how it allows people who are very different to connect on many
levels. I also loved ?Love Calls Us to the Things of This World? by Richard Wilbur. The imagery
in this poem was absolutely amazing, and I adored how he made the ordinary things seem mystical
with his words. I loved how the laundry became angels. If only we could look at the world from
that point of view more often, it would be a much happier place.
The criticisms in college have even been somewhat enjoyable and interesting to read. I think I
began to like the stories and poems we read in class more and more as we discussed them and
looked at different authorities? opinions. I found a lot of the information in the databases very
useful. For the Antigone research project, the JSTORS database gave me hundreds of articles
dealing with my topic. I could narrow down what I was looking for and find numerous

My Life As A College Student Essay
Over the course of the last semester, I grew tremendously, not just as a writer but as a student. I
learned skills and tactics that will last me throughout my life and will benefit me once I begin the
next four years of my life as a college student. This early gateway into college writing provided me
with exposure to the expectations that I will face in the college classroom. This will come in
handy in the English classroom, as well as in every subject I will face over the course of the next
four years, and beyond. Writing is a key skill that communicates ideas and information, and is
essential to being successful. Whether I go into the music industry or find myself in a
completely unforeseen career, it is certain that I will use my writing skills at some point. This
class sharpened those skills and prepared me for the future in ways no high school english class
could. This class has challenged me to think more in depth than I ever have before. It forced me to
use my writing as a means of expressing knowledge, ideas, and facts in a clear organized manner. In
order to accomplish the goals of each paper assigned, I found new ways to present the same
information. For example, in every essay I included the theme that governments should be more
involved in the fight against cyber warfare. However, I presented this idea in each paper in different
forms. In the summary, I simply stated what an author of a certain article had to say about this idea.
In the critique, I discussed

Narrative Essay Examples For College

  • 1. Personal Narrative Essay Examples Image nine resonates with me because it represents women "taking a seat at the table" in business and I believe more women need to be at the table. The photograph showing a woman in the back row reminds me of a theme from Sheryl Sandberg's book, Lean In, where she urges women to take a seat at the table versus sitting on the side of the room. After graduating from Smith College, where I was empowered by intellectually curious and ambitious women, and then transitioning to banking, a male–dominated industry, I recognized early in my career how few women there were in executive roles. As a career driven woman I became inspired to change the status quo and promote the career advancement of women. In my professional career, I have taken several...show more content... I learned that the bank sponsored employee led groups and I was passionate about creating a group to support women since one did not exist. I formed and led a founding committee that was successful in fulfilling the necessary requirements for approval and funding. These responsibilities included creating a charter and bylaws, demonstrating firm–wide interest, and proposing future programming to support our mission. After gaining approval and funding from human resources, our founding committee secured Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to speak at the launch event. The launch for our group was so popular that we had to a find a new venue to accommodate the 100+ employees who wanted to attend. Next, we obtained the bank's chief technology officer as our executive sponsor, the only female executive. After the launch, I went on to lead programming, which included organizing "Lean In" circles for women at varying levels, a roundtable chat with our president & CEO, and lunch & learns with our chief technology officer. Within the first year the group grew to over 100 active Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Personal Narrative Essay Examples As a semi–privileged white teenager, a member of my school's student government, my school's representative in my county's Youth Leadership Program (YLP), and the winner of two Presidential Volunteer Service Awards (PVSA), I may appear to have lived a charmed life. But, my life started with serious problems which I never could have overcome without my own diligence and my loved ones' unconditional support. As a baby, my speech and social skills developed unusually slowly. At fifteen months old, the state of Massachusetts flagged me as having "pervasive developmental delays, not otherwise specified" and recommended me for an early intervention program. My parents, worried I might never live a normal life, agreed to put me in it. When I was three,...show more content... Hence, from third grade on, I was considered "twice–exceptional" and went to a completely different elementary school for advanced academics, still on an IEP. Switching to a new school was not entirely positive, however. I had to leave most of my friends behind, and the competitive environment made me a clear target for bullies and induced chronic anxiety. I also gained weight, which elicited more harassment. This abysmal cycle climaxed towards the end of third grade in a public cacophony of emotion, after which my homeroom teacher recommended me a reputable therapist she knew. I will refer to him with the pseudonym, "Dr. J." My sessions with Dr. J thoroughly remedied my sorrow. Not only did he give great advice, we played board games to build my interpersonal skills. A parent often joined us as we talked, letting me vent to him/her as well. The results were tangible: I became calmer, my weight problems eased, and my social skills improved. With support from my mother, father, Dr. J, and teachers, I made it through advanced academics in elementary school with good grades, improving significantly in every area of my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Narrative Essay Example Pamela Essay 1 Sitting at my desk at home, a crushing feeling crept up on me. I didn't know what to think. I'm not going to make it, am I. It was already midway through junior year of high school, and having just calculated my GPA requirements for many of the colleges I had wanted to go to, I realized that my grades were not even close to what I expected them to be. I guess I had been in denial for so long that I let them slip this far. How could I have let this happen? Where was mymind when I needed to study and do homework? Why did so many stupid things like watching T.V. or going out with friends or just mindlessly waste my time on the internet? I felt an awful combination of disappointment, anger, panic, and frustration....show more content... I worked so much harder. I began to pay attention in class, studied my notes everyday instead of cramming the night before the test, participated in class, did my extra credit, and gave it my all. Soon, people began to notice. My friends said I looked and acted stronger, more driven. My teachers said they noticed my improvement, saying things such as: "I've noticed the change in effort you've been putting in my class, I'm very impressed." "You're test grades have gotten higher, keep up the good work!" These observations from my teachers and peers satisfied me, but what truly made everything worth it were my grades. In every class I took, my grades shot up at least 10 percent from the previous semester. I actually learned things in my classes instead of carelessly writing down notes to spit all the information out on a test before I would quickly and surely forget it. For once, I was actually happy with my schoolwork. Things were finally working out how I planned it to be. I felt accomplishment that my hard work finally paid off, but I still kept in mind that my original goals were still far from reach. Nevertheless, I was happy about all the things I had changed and improved in the short amount of time I had left. When I first realized my grades were below my expectations and that I wouldn't be able to go to the school of my dreams, I was devastated, but at the end, after I worked hard and got the grades I wanted, I was okay with it. I truly Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Example Of Narrative Essay For College Four years ago, I was eagerly listening to Alex McDaniel, an award–winning journalist share her personal insight into the profession at the University of Mississippi when it finally dawned on me: journalism is my calling. Later, I was watching Spotlight, a movie about the efforts of the Boston Globe in the early 2000's to showcase the Church's acknowledgment and blunt protection of the abuse of children by local priests, when I truly understood the importance of journalism. To this day, Spotlight remains a reminder to always print the un–biased truth for the people, no matter the risks. I believe I deserve to be selected for one of the Education Foundation of Greenville's scholarships because as a hard–working student I commit myself to effectively take advantage of the opportunity that the scholarships will provide me. Besides, I am a student that does not only persistently works hard academically, but...show more content... I have served as my classes' secretary, treasurer, and current Vice President. I am Key Club's Vice –President, having formerly served as Public Relations chair. I am especially involved in the Journalism program, having worked my way up from contributor, to staffer, to Co–Editor, to Editor–In–Chief, to being awarded Editor of the Year by the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association my senior year. • 5. Personal Narrative: My Life In College Believe it or not, I began my life in college. My mother moved me to Austin when I was just six months old. She was only nineteen, studying as a full time student at the University of Texas. She was also raised in a small town with a strong family. However, conceiving a child at such a young age in college only added another obstacle of becoming a single mother while being a student. After years of dedication and hard work, she graduated with a 4.0 GPA in nursing. Shortly after, she became what she aspired to be; a registered nurse, through the support of her family and drive to overcome adversity. Watching my mother push through hardships has taught me to set even higher goals for myself. As I grew older, these family traits and values became Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay For College Corrected PS Growing up in a small townhouse, I would see my father only once a week on Sundays because he was working long hours the rest of the week. When meeting him, I would become very emotional because I knew that the reason I could not see him other days of the week was because he was working. My father's hard work and perseverance gave me the drive to become someone that he would be proud of. My goal is to become someone that he can say to himself it was worth the long and strenuous hours spent at work. When I started my undergraduate career, I did not have the intentions of entering this field of study. I wanted to run the family business and make it successful. My father said, "If you want to enter the business and are willing to do it every day, then work the entire summer." I was eager to start, arriving on time and being the last one to leave. The enthusiasm soon abated, I could see that I no longer desired to run the family business and did not enjoy my time working there. The end of the summer my father sat me down once again and asked, "Are you ready to continue this any longer?" The answer was clear that I was not ready to run a family business my entire life....show more content... After reviewing my second year in undergraduate, I realized that I had to get more serious about my education. I was an average student in school and I knew that I was not reaching my full potential. I knew I needed to excel in all my classes to reach my educational goals. From that point, I learned new studying techniques and went to office hours when needed. But I still had little idea of what career path I wanted to take with my bachelors in Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay My dad always says, "bravery is being afraid and doing it anyway." Until the age of 15, I had never stepped into a school, until one day, I gathered my courage and began my academic journey. I was homeschooled for most of my young life. While I studied the standard subjects, I was able to learn in an environment completely free and focused on me. It was an amazing and unique way to grow up, but it was also a bubble. I was unaware of much of the world around me, and as someone who was, at the time, quite shy, never really explored. I spent the first semester of highschool in an online program, but I did not like it and decided to transfer. I knew nothing about public school, and starting a new school half way through the year was a huge risk. I knew it was going to be difficult and scary, but I also knew it would help me grow as a person....show more content... The environment was completely foreign, I had never even been around so many kids in one place, I had never been in a classroom, and I knew my life was about to change. The entire act of transferring schools was, in itself, a risk. Despite never setting foot in a school before, I decided to take the most advanced classes available. This proved to be a stressful decision but it was also a risk that paid off. Deciding to pursue my academic ambitions despite being in a new environment set me on a trajectory to continue to take academic risks and follow my dreams. It also pushed me to develop skills and connections that now allow me to take some of the most difficult classes at my school as well as conduct scientific research at Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Example Of A Personal Narrative Essay For College Before I was born, my father had been looked up upon his family, he aimed to be the best so he decided to leave Pakistan and start a new life in America and bring his family along. Money was limited to him and for 10 years he had worked non–stop just to form a living and also to bring his brother to Texas. My dad would not stop hustling even after he was able to bring his brother to Texas both of them had worked till they were able to bring the whole family from Pakistan. The following years he was able to open his first dry cleaning business and even after he still had plans on opening extra businesses. I was born in 1997 and that same year he had closed his dry cleaning business to pursue his dream of being an international entrepreneur in the used clothing business. On the side I want to support with my fathers companies in the textile and the freight industry and be able to make it develop. Eventually I will move onto working full time for the businesses my father has started and be able to lead it on to the future with my cousins. The University of Texas business programs will be able to achieve my future goals by building upon what I currently attain in the business market. Creating a moderate sized company is one of my goals to achieve during attending University of Texas and by the help of the classes I attend I will be able to start one up. • 11. Personal Narrative: My Journey Back To College I have decided to go back to school to finish my degree. The first time I went back to school was from 1999–2002. I went to Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. I almost completed my degree before I had to move back to Tennessee. I then joined the Tennessee Army National Guard and became a full time National Guardsman. My family had told me several times that I need to complete my degree, but I never gave it much thought and never seemed to have time due to deployments. Time has flown by and I realize that I don't want to allow the college credits that I earned to go to waste without a degree. My ultimate goal for using this degree along with almost twenty years experience in human resources is to start my second career working Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Literacy Narrative Essay example At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in my everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into the action unless it relates to something I am very...show more content... You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to. Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Narrative Essay Examples Narrative Essay As times goes on you, realize life isn't all it seems to be. You learn life lessons and certain life events teach you things that can lead to you improving yourself as a person. As you realize most things in life are provided to you, you never truly realize how much everything can mean. As teenagers most of us are immature and do not realize how easy it is for us to lose everything we have. As we could lose everything and anything in a matter of seconds if we are not careful. It was another typical Monday morning, I had that same feeling I always do when I wake up, dreadly having to get up, use the bathroom, and brush my teeth and get ready for school. It is the same process throughout the whole week until Friday....show more content... The next week was a breeze and it comes down to the night before I had already packed all my stuff that night I was told of the trip. Next morning I woke up bright and early ate breakfast and we headed to the airport. The next few hours were mostly just traveling typical airplane food, only thing that was interesting about the travel was the fact that during one of flights I was sat beside a drunk idiot and then got moved up a few seats and got 3 seats all to myself! When we finally landed in Pakistan it did not look anything different than in Canada. I thought "oh well maybe it looks the same, and is the same" because personally I didn't know much about this place other than the fact I had family here. When we got all our stuff and headed out in a car I noticed nothing different but that might have been due to the fact I was kind of fatigued and the fact we were in a bigger city. On the travel to my cousins I fell asleep, and didn't get woken up until we reached their house. When I got out of the car I was too tired and was way to jetlagged to realize how different things were so I went straight into the house and went back to bed. I mostly slept for the whole first day. As I woke up by my family, they invited me to go out and try out some of the local foods as everything here was very fresh down to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. During my two semesters at Suffolk County Community College, I have pushed myself to do work that goes above and beyond the average student. I have not only pushed myself to go above and beyond at Suffolk, I have done the same in my personal life too. Some adjectives that somebody would use to describe me is, hardworking, dedicated, and driven. Additionally, throughout my academic career these attributes have helped me overcome adversity. When it comes toschool, I have tried to better, challenge myself and further my academic career. In my senior year of high school, I could have slacked off like many other people but I didn't. I took three honors classes, all of them for college credit. In regards to challenging myself at Suffolk, I originally entered...show more content... I went to physical therapy three times a week to help with my back, and to try to get back to school sooner, and I did. The problem was, my back was barley well enough to sit through school, I then had to get injections in my back to help with the inflammation, unfortunately didn't work, so in November of 2015 I had back surgery to as a last resort to help my problem. The healing process was grueling, I had to go back to physical therapy three times a week again, there was the unknown of whether my back would even get better from the surgery, and I had to miss high school for a week. At this point I could have given up, I could have said "screw it," and given up on school and life, but I didn't. Through my hard work, dedication at physical therapy, and my strong will to get better, I improved. Even though I improved, it was still not enough, so in February of this year I went back to physical therapy, and then in March of this year I got an injection in my back, and finally through my strong work ethic, drive, and commitment to getting better, my back is finally healing and as of late March of 2017, I am finally able to start to return to doing the things I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay I was born and raised in Canton Ohio. I had a lot of trouble focusing on my classes when I went to school. I had six brothers and sisters and we were from a low income family. I had a sister, Debbie, who was a slow learner and went to a special school. I also have a brother , Eddie, who is mentally disabled and blind. As of now he is in an assisted living program in Ohio. After I moved to Utah in 1979 I found it really hard to get a job. This was my first time away from my large family. After many years out here in Utah , I meant Gene, we had a child together out of wedlock. I moved in with him and we lived together for about 34 years now. After our son moved out at the age of 21 years old , I was diagnosed with ADHD, by my doctor, Dr. Rinehart....show more content... It was a lot of fun and the instructors gave me more time to get the assignments in. Moving to Utah was different for me. Everyone I meant was Mormon. I was raised Evangelical. I stayed with a Mormon family at first and I went to church with them. I couldn't agree with there beliefs. One of my strong points is that I have always had a deep sense of God, I have always prayed a lot. Once I was able to get a job, I ended up with a Mormon roommate. She was really hard to live with. She never seem to smile and she seem to look down on me so that didn't last long. I got to the point where I got a second job just to stay away from her. A Page 2 homeless man gave me a puppy while I lived with her and when she decided to go back home she took my puppy with her. I was so hurt. I have always had a pet, my whole life. When she went home I got another apartment and later another roommate. This one was raised Mormon but didn't live it. For some reason that kind of helped our relationship and we got along pretty well. Later I meant my son's Father, and I started to get my act together. I found out the reason I had trouble learning was because I had ADHD, and I got treatment for it and went back to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Essay on Returning to College as an Adult Returning to College as an Adult Coming to college as an adult, we have many expectations and preconceptions of what college will or will not be. The expectations we have can influence our college life for the better or the worse. My experience since starting college has been an interesting one. People have misconceptions about college because they do not know what to expect. After doing some research, I have concluded that there are three major factors that are often misunderstood about college life. The first is the financial aspect of college. Second, is the relationship between the professors and students. Third is time management. These three factors play an important role in why people are afraid to go down the path to college....show more content... There are many options available from low–tuition state universities, financial aid, employer tuition reimbursement. In some cases, you can be eligible for various types of grants. Being a single mother or just shopping at a certain supermarket can make you eligible. There is a misconception about the professors (sometimes called instructors). Questions arise such as; will they make time for me when I need the extra help? How large will the class be? Will they understand that this may not be as easy for me as it is for others? These questions enter our minds and may seem discouraging at times. Through my personal experiences I have found that classroom atmospheres may not always be for everyone. However, that does not mean college life is not for everyone. You can take many alternative routes. You can take advantage of telecourses, online courses, accelerated courses and many other options that may be more suitable. My professors have been great. They come in earlier to help and return e–mails and/or phone calls promptly. You also expect to be able to accomplish your work quickly and with minimal stress, leaving more time to work and spend with your family. You expect to be able to do what you did in high school and still pass. However college, by far, is nowhere as easy as most anticipate. You have to study, unlike high school, where you could float on by with A's by seldomly attending class. College is harder than high school and therefore Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Reflective Essay on College Writing Reflective Essay on College Writing This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the timerestraints are not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free moments I...show more content... I definitely learned a great deal from our discussions about this book. I really did not like it at all until the class sat down and analyzed the many levels Conrad addressed in his story. I thought the endless paradoxes in the book, once brought to light, were actually very interesting. My favorite section, however, was the poetry unit. I really enjoyed the poem ?The Blues? by Billy Collins the most because of my respect for music. I think Collins really makes a point in his poem about just how important music is and how it allows people who are very different to connect on many levels. I also loved ?Love Calls Us to the Things of This World? by Richard Wilbur. The imagery in this poem was absolutely amazing, and I adored how he made the ordinary things seem mystical with his words. I loved how the laundry became angels. If only we could look at the world from that point of view more often, it would be a much happier place. The criticisms in college have even been somewhat enjoyable and interesting to read. I think I began to like the stories and poems we read in class more and more as we discussed them and looked at different authorities? opinions. I found a lot of the information in the databases very useful. For the Antigone research project, the JSTORS database gave me hundreds of articles dealing with my topic. I could narrow down what I was looking for and find numerous Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Personal Narrative-College Essay I grew up in a family that grew up in Agoura Hills, my mom, two uncles, aunt, and brother all went to Agoura High School and my grandpa is really involved in the community with the high school football team, AYSO, and pony league baseball. My brother is two grades above me and I had all of his teachers throughout elementary and middle school, even now i have some of his old art teachers. I was constantly referred to as his little sister and i really struggled with identity issues because of that. As much as I love art I couldn't really enjoy it because I felt pressured into it and I knew i would never be as good as my brother, as one of his ceramics teachers put it, "he is one of the top 1% of artists to come through this school." I was so tired of always just being someone's daughter or niece or granddaughter and sister. I wanted to establish a place for me and be myself and sports medicine ended up being the answer to that. After the first month of being in sports medicine I was so happy and gained so much confidence in myself. I used to hate school and now every day I had the class i came home smiling because of how fun the class was and everything came so easily and naturally to me. I was so happy with myself and I was able to start letting go of old insecurities and gain confidence. Having...show more content... I have been able to get involved in my community. I am a certified in the Community Emergency Response Team and I will able to help so many more people in the event of an emergency with my combined knowledge from that course and everything I have learned from sports medicine and emergency procedures. I also represented my school and sports medicine program at a networking breakfast at California Lutheran University which is something I never would have been able to do even a year ago. I was given a volunteer position at Los Robeles Hospital because of my experiences with sports Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 20. My Life As A College Student Essay Over the course of the last semester, I grew tremendously, not just as a writer but as a student. I learned skills and tactics that will last me throughout my life and will benefit me once I begin the next four years of my life as a college student. This early gateway into college writing provided me with exposure to the expectations that I will face in the college classroom. This will come in handy in the English classroom, as well as in every subject I will face over the course of the next four years, and beyond. Writing is a key skill that communicates ideas and information, and is essential to being successful. Whether I go into the music industry or find myself in a completely unforeseen career, it is certain that I will use my writing skills at some point. This class sharpened those skills and prepared me for the future in ways no high school english class could. This class has challenged me to think more in depth than I ever have before. It forced me to use my writing as a means of expressing knowledge, ideas, and facts in a clear organized manner. In order to accomplish the goals of each paper assigned, I found new ways to present the same information. For example, in every essay I included the theme that governments should be more involved in the fight against cyber warfare. However, I presented this idea in each paper in different forms. In the summary, I simply stated what an author of a certain article had to say about this idea. In the critique, I discussed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
