An unconventional partnership formed between a liquor store owner, Jeff Rise, and the local library. Rise built a small book exchange nook inside his liquor store to provide an alternative space for the library's books. The book nook generated over $7,000 in its first year for the library through donations from customers browsing and purchasing books. Both the store owner and library have benefited from increased community engagement and financial support through this unique collaboration between unexpected partners.

Outcome Made over $7,000 first 12 months Averaging about $450-500 a month Donation Book Nook – NOT A BOOK SALE – no sales tax Jeff has seen a small uptake in sales for his business Larger donations for book nook ($14 in liquor and $6 from a 20 to book sale) Even though recommend .50 - $1 – almost always get more for each book

Sustainability As long as Jeff is physically able and owns the store Helps reduce storage costs throughout the year for book sale Keeps books from getting stale or wet Allows families more opportunity for children’s books and new materials Ease of access is BONUS!
