Kendrapara district is situated in the eastern portion of the state and is bounded on the north by Bhadrak district, Jagatsingpur by south, Jajpur by north-west, Cuttack by west and on the east the Bay of Bengal. The district lies between 20o21’N to 22o10’N latitude and 86o14’E to 87o83’E longitude, occupying total geographical of 2,644 sq. km. The coastline covers 48 km stretching from Dhamara Muhan to Batighar.
2.0 K.V.K MANDATES
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kendrapara transfers need based technology to the farming community in Agriculture and allied sector through its mandatory activities. It has four broad mandates.
939830988
3.0 ORGANISATIONAL SETUP
Organisational set up, as sanctioned by ICAR consists of one Programme Co-ordinator, who is being assisted by six Subject Matter Specialists (Crop Production, Plant protection, Soil science, Fishery Science, Horticulture & Agril Extension), one Programme Assistant, one Farm Manager , one Computer Programmer and six other office supporting staffs. The details are stated in Annexure -1
4.0 land use status of KVK
Land use patternArea in HAUnder building 1.54Under demonstration unit1.96Under crops5.00Bunds/available waste land1.00Orchard/ Agro-forestry1.50Others (Retting tank, WHS)1.00Total12.00
3810474980Krishi Vigyan Kendra is having 12 ha of land. The detail land use status is stated below:
5.0 Soil status
The soil characteristic of the district is variable in nature and soil is dominated by alluvial and saline with sandy loam texture. About 90 percent soils are acidic in nature which is spread over Kendrapara, Pottamundai, Garadpur, Marsaghai, Aul, Rajkanika and Derabis blocks of the district. Rest 20 percent saline soils are spread over mainly in Rajnagar and Mahakalpada blocks.
Table SEQ Table ARABIC 1, BLOCK SOIL STATUSSl.NoSoil typeCharacteristicsArea in ha 1AlluvialCoarse sand to clay texture, base saturation & fertility, acidic in reaction85300ha2SalineClay to clay loam in texture, low in N & K but medium in p, reduced uptake of k, ca & mg by plants due to presence of excess N, suffers from H2S injury48200ha3BlackHeavier in texture with more than 30% clay, soil reaction is neutral to slightly alkaline with presence of free CaCO3 nodules in profile2500ha
6.0 MODE OF ACTION
Before execution of any programme survey is conducted in different potential villages by using PRA tools to know the agro-economic profile, problems and intervention action points are selected for executing the programmes either through training, demonstration or On Farm Testing. After execution works, impact study is conducted to know the changes in knowledge, skill and attitude, adoption of appropriate technology, increase in productivity, income and ultimately improvement in socio-economic status of farmers and village community.
7.0 DEVELOPMENT OF INSTRUCTIONAL UNITS

To achieve the most important mandates of KVK, vocational training and campus farm units have been developed where the skill oriented trainings are imparted on the principle of “Learning by doing” and “Seeing is believing”.
Seed production units of paddy & dhaincha
Medicinal plant unit
Mango and banana orchard
Ornamental fish culture unit
Carp hatchery
Nutritional garden
Demo unit of Integrated farming system
Mushroom production unit
Vermi-compost unit
Poultry unit
Azolla multiplication unit
Apiary unit
Duckery unit
Mushroom spawn unit
Shed net for seedling and sapling
Poly house
8.0 tHRuST AREAs OF KVK
,[object Object]
