as well as our Vise principal ,who gave me the golden
opportunity to do this wonderful project on Sikkim , which also
helped me in doing a lot of Research and I came to know about so
many new things I am really thankful to them.
Secondly, I would also like to thank my parents and friends who
helped me a lot in finalizing this project within the limited time
frame.

 The name Sikkim is that it
is a combination of
two Limbu words: su, which
means "new", and khyim,
which means "palace" or
"house".
 In historical Indian
literature, Sikkim is known
as Indrakil, the garden of
the war god Indra.
Sikkim
 Sikkim is a beautiful state in the
periphery of India.
 It is believed that 'Lepchas' or rong
(ravine folk) were the first
inhabitants of Sikkim.
 Sikkim was a Buddhist kingdom
under the Namgyal-Chogyal
dynasty from 1642 to 1975.
 Sikkim had twelve kings; Palden
Thondup Namgyal was the last king
of Independent Sikkim.

The food of Sikkim is a rich
mixture of Nepalese, Tibetan
and native Sikkimese food.
The cuisine of Sikkim is
majorly non-vegetarian.
A lot of vegetables are
fermented to preserve them
for a longer time.
1. Momo (Dumplings)
 Sikkim and Momos are
complementary to one another.
 Momos are steamed buns with a
filling. It typically consists of two
parts - the cover and the filling
 From Tofu (Paneer) to cheese,
everything can be included in the
filling.
2. Thukpa or Gya Thuk
 Thukpa is a kind of
noodle soup of Tibetan
origin that has found its
way to being one of the
most loved food in
Sikkim.
 Thukpa is rich in spices
too and has an enriching
taste.
3. Sha Phaley
 This wonderful dish of Tibetan
origin is literally heaven on your
taste buds.
 Bread stuffed with ground beef and
cabbage made into semi-circles
and then deep-fried
 Crispy on the outside and heavenly
on the inside,
Archery in Sikkim
 A popular sport of the Sikkimese,
archery is traditionally, played after
the harvests.
 This was the unique way for the
villagers to assemble at a place and
enjoy during the period of inactivity.
 This ancient sport of the region has
seen a recent revival to rejuvenate
the cultural identity of the region.
Dances of Sikkim
 With the total, population of Sikkim
categorized into three major groups
namely
o the Lepchas,
o Bhutias and
o the Nepalis;
 the state automatically becomes a
multicultural one.
 Each of this community has its own
language, culture and dances.

• Carpet Weaving
o Sikkimese’s practice of weaving is
probably the oldest form of carpet
weaving in the world.
o The women of the Bhutia
community are said to be expert
carpet weavers.
