2. A savings bank takes a major step in diversification
From traditional
activities to
diversification
Together we
found a solution:
multi asset
A successful new
business
A retail bank, struggling with its traditional banking products, asked our advice. Ever declining
interest rates had reduced the banks’ earnings from traditional savings and lending activities,
making this core interest-based business less and less viable. In addition, their clients were asking
for other solutions. The bank made the decision to put more emphasis on diversification. But how?
To attract more investment business and address the needs of their clients, the bank decided to
distribute a product consisting of several multi-asset funds, next to the fund of funds it had already
launched. This was based on our advice. NN Investment Partners (NN IP) delivered the necessary
investment solutions, which already had a long and successful history. The bank could also make
good use of our technical knowledge and commercial expertise to sell the product confidently to its
clients. NN IP gladly provided training, client events, support materials, sales collateral, investor
days, dialogue sessions, newsletters and monthly and quarterly reports. Together with our client, we
also co-developed web pages providing retail investors with an overview of NN IP’s product range,
which the bank then integrated into its own website. In hindsight, it was a valuable co-production on
all organizational levels, with mutual benefits.
The bank’s new business is developing faster than expected. Sales have exceeded forecasts. Our
client has achieved something remarkable within the sector in taking a major step in realizing the
goal of diversifying away from a traditional pure-savings model.
