MainCor is a nonprofit founded in 1981 to encourage economic development along Main Street through support and technical assistance. The Main Street Community Improvement District (CID) was founded in 2007 as a self-assessed tax district to promote safety, cleanliness, and quality of life above standard city services. Major ongoing and planned projects along Main Street include new apartment buildings, renovations, residential and mixed-use developments, and a possible light rail expansion. Successes so far include new developments, zoning changes, planning efforts, and membership and funding growth to continue improving the Main Street corridor.
