Personal Narrative: Myself, The Writer
Chapter Two:Myself, the Writer Many times I find myself just rambling a list of events when
writing. I do not enjoy writing but I do not hate it. My goal this year for me as a writer is to get
better at making my writing pieces a fun story to read and not just a boring list of events. I do not
see myself with a career involving writing in the future but you never know. I don't think I would
ever have the patience to write a published book. My favorite author is definitely Gary Paulsen.
Gary Paulsen wrote my favorite book Hatchet. My favorite writing piece i've ever done was my
paper on Russia in fourth grade. A research paper is my favorite type of paper because you learn as
you write. My least favorite type of paper to write is a Personal

Personal Narrative: Myself As A Writer
It's hard to recall a time where I've succeeded in creating a somewhat decent paper, mostly because
I never wrote much as a high school student. However, last semester, I did write three essays for
my Psychology class which resulted in a good grade and very great feedback. I put a lot of time
in coming up with personal examples that would interest my professor. As I expected, my
professor loved how personal my essays were and how I met the criteria. As a writer, I have a
tough time organizing and writing down my thoughts in a way that is understandable to others. That
is, I don't know all the rules when it comes to writing papers, nor the correct way an essay should be
formulated. As a writer, I strongly struggle in writing analytical essays because I never had to write
many in high school. On the other hand, as a writer, one of my strengths is using transitional words
and understanding their meaning....show more content...
Little did I know that I would check out books from the library but never have time to read any.
Although I did not read any books this semester, I did read the summer before school started, and
in my winter break. One of the books that I remember reading in the summer was called All About
Eva, written by Deidre Berry. The book is about a girl who after graduating from college, decides
to leave South Chicago to start a new life in NYC. All she took with her were her life savings of
about $800. Soon, she falls in love with a millionaire who turns out to be a con man. He left her
stranded on their trip to Switzerland with little money as he hid from the police. Moreover, a
recent film that I have seen and really enjoyed was Thor: Ragnarok. This movie was exciting and
unpredictable. I loved the characters and their ability to work in teamwork to defeat the evil

What was the most recent writing I have done in the last year or week? When asked this question,
I responded to what I have written in the last week. In the last week I have filled out numerous
applications, both for jobs and scholarships. I have also kept up with filling in a wall calendar to
keep track of not only my school schedule and assignment dates but also my work schedule for both
jobs. In addition to hand writing I have also sent out numerous text messages. For me writing has
opened up a new way for me to organize my life and figure out my priorities. Writing has also helped
me discover who I am and a new way for me to express myself through a personal journal about my
major milestones in life. In class we were put in groups of three

Personal Narrative: Myself As A Writer
Throughout my high school career, I have been exposed to many different elements of writing
and, although some teachers have emphasized certain areas more than others, I feel I have come
a long way as a writer. Despite this I also know I have much further to go. This fact became very
clear to me as I was taking my previous course of English, Accelerated English Three. Within this
course I was introduced to the MLA method of citation, I experienced disappointment due to
receiving a lower grade than I had desired, and I discovered difficulties such as my impatient
tendencies to look over errors and mistakes during the editing processes. As the second semester
started, my teacher introduced me to the MLA format and then she instructed me to research and
write a paper with...show more content...
Not only had I put a lot of work into composing the paper, but also the majority of the class had
received much higher grades. Until this point I had always felt very capable of reaching my
academic goals however when I received my grade I felt very incompetent and was unsure of my
abilities as a writer. Although it was a negative experience it showed me the skills I could and still
can improve upon such as editing. I had realized after receiving my paper that certain areas of my
English composition skills could be drastically improved upon. After looking over my paper I
had noticed several mistakes that could have been avoided had I edited my paper a little more
thoroughly. It was my own impatience and carelessness that negatively impacted my ability to edit
my paper which in return affected and my grade and caused the disappointment I had experienced.
I have since learned to edit my paper thoroughly and with patience. I learned a lot in my last
English class including the fact that I have a lot more to learn and despite disappointing
experiences I still feel I can become a great writer.

Essay About Myself
There are three very important aspects that play a major rule in my life. They can be categorized as
intellectual, social, and spiritual. My intellectual self is interesting because I am mainly
right–brained which means that I tend to use my creativity more than my mathematical skills, also
making me a visual learner. My social self consists of friends, family, and my surroundings. I spend
most of my time at home with my family. Whenever I am with my friends, I observe their behaviors
and listen to their opinions. I am more of an independent type of person. Being with different people
has influenced me into appreciating different cultures and beliefs. I have learned things that have
now been incorporated into my own set of beliefs and...show more content...
I find that I can only recall long–term memories if they are important to me, or if they are dramatic
experiences. A few examples of my childhood memories are my mother reading to me, my
grandfather playing his guitar, and my dad relentlessly teaching me how to ice skate, no matter
how many times I fell. The people who affect my social life the most are my family and friends. I
have an extremely close family that has played a major role in my life. They are whom I spend
most of my spare time with. My family usually gathers every weekend for dinner. I am also very
open to different religions, cultures, and practices because I know many people with different
backgrounds and beliefs. Since I've been influenced by various people, I've learned at a very
young age to never judge people by how they look, dress, feel, or act. I am very fortunate to have
learned these lessons, because many people still do not understand the importance of accepting
differences. In a group, I prefer to listen to what others have to say, and then contribute to the
discussion. I try to listen so I am able to compare them to my own thoughts. I enjoy working in a
group, because it gives everyone an opportunity to incorporate their own ideas. My social self is
most greatly influenced by my family and friends. I believe that my spiritual self is the most
important out of the three. Although I have a certain religion that I belong to and practice, I believe
in a bit of

Me as a Writer I don't really like writing because whenever my teacher tells me to write about
something I start to get confused on what to say then I start to get mad at myself and start to

teacher gave me was the story about the "The Girl in The Tree" and it was a really good story and
when I wrote it it was pretty long but really confusing on what I should say in the story when I just
got done reading the story. I learned a lot of new stuff in writing like where should put my commas

Throughout this semester, I have seen myself grow as a writer in my discipline and about my
discipline. This semester has been a great learning experience for me and Ms. Calow has taught
me many techniques that I can use throughout my college career. At first it was difficult
understanding how to write in and about my discipline. After while, I was able to effectively
write and organize my papers the way professionals in my discipline do. During the course of the
semester my grades have gradually improved, and I believe that is because of the peer reviews
from my peers and the feedback that was given by my instructor. For my revisions, I chose to
revise my Category 1: Project 1, and my Category 2: Project 3. These are the papers and projects
where I recognized that too much was wrong within the writing. I also chose these projects because
they are the projects I made the lowest grades on. Though the project grades...show more content...
Through the semester, there have been many times where I didn't know what I was going to
write or how I was going to write it but with the help of my peers and Ms. Calow I was able to
complete my projects. At the beginning, I did not like writing about my discipline at all because
I felt as if it was too confusing for me to write about. As the semester went along it became easier
and easier to write about my discipline. I was happy when I was able to write in my discipline
because I felt like I could express my thoughts and opinions as well as factual information that I
researched. I liked writing in my discipline way more than writing about my discipline, because I
felt like I had more of a connection with the audience that I was writing to. After this semester, I
have seen my interest in writing rise from not liking writing at all, to actually enjoying writing.
Hopefully I can continue to improve after this semester and become an even better writer in and

Essay About Myself as a Writer
I don't consider myself a very good writer. I write when I am made to or when I have something
that I need to say that I can't just tell someone. I keep a diary. Usually my diary is just a record of
what I have done that day. It's not so much about my feelings. I don't really like talking about my
feelings, usually because most of the time I am confused about what exactly I am feeling. I tend to
keep the feelings that I do have to myself, to protect myself from getting hurt.
I didn't have that many close friends in high school. I always was just kind of there. I was no one
important. Everyone seems to have his or her place in this world of high school and it seemed that
my place was on the outside that I...show more content...
When I started my high school, I found my current best friend, Marie. We are still friends to this day;
she just left for college at George Mason. So once again I'm not with my best friend.
I'm not trying to make my life all depressing because it hasn't been all bad. And I realize that
people have had things a lot worse happen to them, in their lives, and I should be thankful for
what I have. But no matter what I have I just never seem truly happy. I always have this front up,
and it seems like everything is going great, but deep inside, I'm falling apart. This comes out in
my writing, and I think that writing is a good release from all of this. I always try to do my best
when it comes to my class work and my writing, but I know that my writing isn't the best by any
means. I always find it important to the best job that I can do, on school work and also in life.
I think that a lot of what got me through writing papers in middle and high school was my mom.
She was so great about reading over and correcting my papers. She stayed up many nights doing
that for me. Not because she had to, but because she wanted to help me. There were so many other
things she could have been doing, but instead she was helping me, and that means a lot to me. I'm
kind of nervous about doing this all on my own. I'm excited thought o see what I can do on my
own. I am so excited about starting new here, with a clean slate. I think that

I Rate Myself As A Writer: A Critical Analysis
As a reader on a scale from 1 to 10, I rate myself a 5 because I rarely read. The last time I read a full
novel was in January 2015. In class, if I am told to read, I try to only read the parts I require or is the
answer. On very rare occasions, I do read news articles, but usually only a few parts or lines of it.
I usually try to watch the news rather than read it which doesn't benefit me as a reader since I have
a little to no want in reading. I probably have to learn quite a bit more than just how to be a great
reader but perhaps actually how to read.
As a writer on a scale from 1 to 10, I rate myself a 5 because I have the experience of writing only
very few essays in the last year and usually don't make grammatical or spelling errors.

What I Learned In My Writing Style
I have learned a lot about myself in the last twelve weeks. I discovered so much about my writing.
I learned who I really am once I came out from behind the "Official Style" that I've clung to since
junior high. I have to tell you, it was very difficult for me to let go. I felt lost and uncertain. But in
the process I found myself, my style, and my voice. I learned to let myself come through in my
writing. I have to admit, writing became a lot more fun and interesting.
When I looked back and read my first paper for this class, I laughed. I couldn't believe how trapped
in the O.S. I was. I remember thinking as I wrote it that I was getting away from theme writing, but
the only reasons I thought this were because I used the first person,...show more content...
It was only at the end of this quarter that I began to feel at ease writing in these other styles. I finally
felt comfortable enough to challenge what had been taught to me as "the law" of writing. I wanted
to do something different, to explore other styles and voices. I wanted to show Ms. Molitor that she
doesn't know everything, that I don't have to write in the Official Style to be effective. Sometimes
things are better when they're written differently.
Another thing I know I did when I wrote this first paper was to write to please the teacher. I tried
to sound like I really knew what I was talking about. I also made college out to be one big learning
experience. Well, it is a learning experience, but not in the way I made it seem. I made it sound
like every class I took taught me something new about myself. Well, that holds true if what I
learned was how well I could do on a test if I didn't read the text or studied while watching Days of
Our Lives (by the way, I'm really getting sick of that Lady in White, aren't you?). But I was
sucking up, I know that. I wasn't going to say that some classes are a waste of time and money, and
that the only reason I'm taking them is because I have to. That wouldn't have sounded very good
because that's the reason I took this class. Truthfully, though, this is one class I actually got
something out of (for real, I'm not sucking up here).
I'm still learning things about my writing, and I'm having a

Who Are You As A Writer? Essay
When presented with the question, "who are you as a writer?", I was speechless at first. But after
thinking about it, I realized who I am as a writer has been influenced by so many different
sponsors throughout my life and there was not a short, concrete answer. Brandt mentions that
"literacy is sponsored by people, institutions, and circumstances that both make it possible for a
person to become literate and shape the way the person actually acquires literacy." (Brandt 43)
My attitude towards writing has been influenced by teachers, both negatively and positively, by
my mother, and by academic assignments over the years. My answer to the question can only be
answered by a narrative of my writing life. I have convinced myself that I am a terrible writer,
and when presented with a writing assignment, I get anxious instantly. I see writing as a burden
and a huge obstacle that gets placed in my life. Academic writing is not fun, but something I
value due to the fact that we are a grade driven society. When writing, I write to the guidelines in
order to receive points for the requested criteria. The reason being, I gave up on expressing my
own ideas because I had been shut down by so many teachers throughout my education. I tried to
write down what came to my mind and put my own twist on things, but that was not the "right"
way to write papers. In order to make both my teachers and my grades happy, I wrote what they
wanted to hear, and even then I was not to the level they

My Experience As A Reader And Writer
As a reader and writer I always faced given assignments with the intent of doing exceptional jobs
and take a sense of pride in my work to complete my tasks. As a reader, I will bore myself through
out an entire book and realize I didn 't understand a single thing. Although as a writer, I can go on
for so long losing myself on a topic because it feels more interactive. Reflecting on my experiences
as a reader and writer have been very bold, I never really found a joy or an interest to become the
exceptional student who stands out amongst others because, I always felt ok with myself and my
results with the way I did things. A Majority of the time I will only read what I have been
assigned because reading will not be my preference of task simply because I will lose focus and
wonder off into thinking about what my girlfriend might be doing. My useful method that I
discovered about myself when reading alone so I can remain focused is looking up summaries of
the book like spark notes, before I read so I can understand the text more clearly. It is probably the
worst thing to do because it does ruin the suspense or purpose of reading the book anyways, but it
helps with remaining concentrated. I feel that I am this way because I am really picky with what I
like to read, which in my case may be informative magazines like Men's health that can teach me
something useful. I don 't have the best experiences with reading, possibly because teachers never
showed us what

Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 101 class
has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. This was my first college
writing course and it has given me much more freedom when writing because in high school I felt
limited and like what we were writing was not very important. In high school I would write essays
to just to fulfill the required word or page count and to a degree I still feel like this but maybe that is
why I am an engineering major but in this course I actually was able to express my ideas and for the
first time really test the limits of my writing capabilities. I really enjoyed being able to incorporate
my voice more in my essays and I believe...show more content...
The most important improvement for me in this course was on my grammar. I was not aware of
the comma rules before. It was shocking to see where commas are to be put and the places that I
usually miss. The Hacker lessons we did in and out of class on commas have improved my
grammar significantly. Looking back through all of my graded essays it is unbelievable how
many commas I have actually missed. Also, writing the essays in MLA format and including
work cited entries and quotations, has helped me become more comfortable with it. When I write
essays now, I do not hesitate or get anxious if I have to add a work cited entry. However, even
though I have know a little bit more of when to use commas and have a little bit more knowledge
about grammar there is still a lot of room for improvement. Some areas where I need to improve
include transitions between paragraphs, being to repetitive, and my conclusions. This class has
definitely helped me make my transitions better; however they still could use some improvement. I
have to make sure that the reader can comprehend my thought process and that my transitions do
not get in the way of the flow of the paper. In some of the rough drafts for my essays I could not
find links between paragraphs at all but after work shopping in class I believe that they have
significantly improved. I also need to make sure that I do not repeat the same ideas or words too

Personal Narrative: Myself As A Writer
I am Mariela Barragan and I am in your Tuesdays and Thursdays Freshman Composition class. To
me a writer is someone who is creative, who really loves to write, and someone that can express

expressing my ideas into words.
I don't like writing. I never did and to be honest I don't think that I'll ever will. I am more of a

part you have to make outlines,

What I Learned For Myself As A Writer
I learned that when you write a paper you should know who your audience is and their level of
knowledge, beginner writer tends to generalize their audience and that result from being
misunderstood or misinterpret by their audience so know your audience is essential to be a good
writer, Also I learned that everything in your paragraph must have a connection to each other, first
it is important to have a clear topic sentence follow by 3 good example that prove the point of the
topic sentence and finish by conclusion, a conclusion should is like a summarization of all the things
you have said in your writing.

My Autobiography Of Myself As A Writer
My Autobiography of Myself as A Writer
Coming back to school after a ten–year break was the best choice I made. When I started this
English 102 class with Dr. Brockman, I didn't feel that I was a great writer. I knew I had so much
to stay; the struggle was putting in on paper. I knew that regardless of how hard this class was for
me, I was going to see it through.
I produced 3 major papers to this class. My First paper was on Advertising titled Off with Her Head;
My second paper was written on Panopticism titled Heaven or Hell? My third paper was a
research paper of my choice; I chose to write on Educational Success for Hispanic Students. After
my first paper was submitted on to blackboard on Advertising, I felt good about my writing.
After evaluating my writing in my portfolio, I had to answer these questions: If I had more time
to change my writing what would I change? What was my favorite piece of writing? and What
was my least favorite piece of writing? If I had more time to change my writing, I would
definitely ask for help understanding the assignment. I would change my research paper topic.
My favorite piece of writing was Heaven or Hell? I enjoyed this piece of writing; I had a good
understanding of Panopticism by Michael Foucault. I was able to relate it back to my life. With a
clear understanding, I was able to show my understating in my writing. My least favorite piece of
writing was the research paper. Although, I was very interested in the topic the

topic I love talking about. In those essays, I can write non–stop, but as a college student, in my
experience, "free write" topics are rarely given, which brings a weak spot to me. If there is no free
write assignment, often times it is a topic I cannot relate to. I need to learn how to get out of my
comfort zone when it comes to writing. The best writing I have ever done was over this past
summer. I wrote on the topic
"Black Lives Matter vs. All Lives Matter". Since I am so admit about the situation, I had plenty to

What I Learned About Myself As A Writer
Over this quarter of English, I have learned many things out of the three to four essays that we
have written. I have learned how to write college papers in the appropriate page requirements. Our
teacher noticed after the first two essays we wrote that we suffered from sentence fragments,
sentence run ons, and comma splices. I have learned how to fix those errors in my papers that I
write. A thing I have learned about myself as a writer is that I write very well when a paper is about
my personal life because it is easier to write about yourself than about a topic that you are just
researching for the first time. If the paper is about my life experiences, I would get a good grade on
it. The challenges I have faced is having the effort to keep going when I run out of ideas when writing
a paper. When I get to three and a half pages out of four pages for a paper, I always run out of
ideas and fuel to keep going. Once I get to the third page, I always feel like I am just repeating the
same things I already stated in the previous pages because I have little motivation left. I am
working hard to change that about my papers but it's still a work in progress. As I stated I struggle
with keeping my papers interesting even in the end, that is something that I am trying to improve on
and get better with. I would also like to improve on sounding more intelligent in my papers and
getting better writing skills. Based on these things that I'm trying to get better at, there is this one

Describe Yourself As A Writer
When I was young, I always knew that college is important to the major that you choose. When I
see my aunt, I ask many questions about college and how it is like. I thought it would be
challenging and stressful. Then it was stressful because I want to improve my writing. When I see
myself as a writer, I think about the process, then I consider the improvements I need to make, and
lastly the strengths I have.
First, I think about the writing process. When the teacher or professor give me an essay, I start right
away. I start right away because I don't want my work to be late and I have other assignment to do
for other classes. Once I read the prompt, I start my outline to know what to write in my essay. I just
think about what I know and don't know, then put it onto paper. For the outline, I will do sentences
or sometimes words only. It depends on the topic or essay I write. I find the outline is a helpful way
to get started.
After the outline, I start researching the topic. I use the internet for the research. I use it because it
is helpful. It is helpful because I take examples of how to start. I use google and look at images of
essays. It provides inspiration for the essay....show more content...

Me as a Writer
As a writer, I think that I am not as good as I thought I was back in high school. I see myself as a
student who tries their best, but makes "B" average work. I have never really taken the time to
relate to my papers. I always just wrote what the teacher wanted and handed it in. In my mind, I
never really liked trying to explain in full detail what something meant. Back in high school, my
teachers always wanted me to explain my writing in such depth that a kindergartener would

One way to calm my inner critic is a quote from Allegra Goodman's article called Calming the
Inner Critic and Getting to Work on page 309. "Love your material. Nothing frightens the inner
critic more than the writer who loves her work. The writer who is enamored of her material
forgets all about censoring herself. She doesn't stop to wonder if her book is any good, or who
will publish it, or what people will think. She writes in a trance, losing track of time, hearing only
her characters in her head." What this means to me is that if I truly let my mind go and only
focus on the material, I will be able to write the paper without having my inner critic confuse me.
In an article called The Composing Processes of Unskilled College Writers by Sondra Pearl on
page 201, there is a strategy that I used to help with writing a paper. "Given any topic, the first
operation he performed was to focus in and narrow down the topic. He did this by rephrasing the
topic until either a word or an idea in the topic linked up with something in his own experience (an
attitude, an opinion, an event). In this way he established a connection between the field of
discourse and himself and at this point he felt ready to write." The strategy that he uses to organize
his thoughts is the same way I start my papers. I start with just words that relate to the topic and
figure out how to put them in my writing so they make sense to the

Myself As A Writer Essay

  • 1. Personal Narrative: Myself, The Writer Chapter Two:Myself, the Writer Many times I find myself just rambling a list of events when writing. I do not enjoy writing but I do not hate it. My goal this year for me as a writer is to get better at making my writing pieces a fun story to read and not just a boring list of events. I do not see myself with a career involving writing in the future but you never know. I don't think I would ever have the patience to write a published book. My favorite author is definitely Gary Paulsen. Gary Paulsen wrote my favorite book Hatchet. My favorite writing piece i've ever done was my paper on Russia in fourth grade. A research paper is my favorite type of paper because you learn as you write. My least favorite type of paper to write is a Personal Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Personal Narrative: Myself As A Writer It's hard to recall a time where I've succeeded in creating a somewhat decent paper, mostly because I never wrote much as a high school student. However, last semester, I did write three essays for my Psychology class which resulted in a good grade and very great feedback. I put a lot of time in coming up with personal examples that would interest my professor. As I expected, my professor loved how personal my essays were and how I met the criteria. As a writer, I have a tough time organizing and writing down my thoughts in a way that is understandable to others. That is, I don't know all the rules when it comes to writing papers, nor the correct way an essay should be formulated. As a writer, I strongly struggle in writing analytical essays because I never had to write many in high school. On the other hand, as a writer, one of my strengths is using transitional words and understanding their meaning....show more content... Little did I know that I would check out books from the library but never have time to read any. Although I did not read any books this semester, I did read the summer before school started, and in my winter break. One of the books that I remember reading in the summer was called All About Eva, written by Deidre Berry. The book is about a girl who after graduating from college, decides to leave South Chicago to start a new life in NYC. All she took with her were her life savings of about $800. Soon, she falls in love with a millionaire who turns out to be a con man. He left her stranded on their trip to Switzerland with little money as he hid from the police. Moreover, a recent film that I have seen and really enjoyed was Thor: Ragnarok. This movie was exciting and unpredictable. I loved the characters and their ability to work in teamwork to defeat the evil character of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Personal Narrative: Myself As A Writer What was the most recent writing I have done in the last year or week? When asked this question, I responded to what I have written in the last week. In the last week I have filled out numerous applications, both for jobs and scholarships. I have also kept up with filling in a wall calendar to keep track of not only my school schedule and assignment dates but also my work schedule for both jobs. In addition to hand writing I have also sent out numerous text messages. For me writing has opened up a new way for me to organize my life and figure out my priorities. Writing has also helped me discover who I am and a new way for me to express myself through a personal journal about my major milestones in life. In class we were put in groups of three Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Personal Narrative: Myself As A Writer Throughout my high school career, I have been exposed to many different elements of writing and, although some teachers have emphasized certain areas more than others, I feel I have come a long way as a writer. Despite this I also know I have much further to go. This fact became very clear to me as I was taking my previous course of English, Accelerated English Three. Within this course I was introduced to the MLA method of citation, I experienced disappointment due to receiving a lower grade than I had desired, and I discovered difficulties such as my impatient tendencies to look over errors and mistakes during the editing processes. As the second semester started, my teacher introduced me to the MLA format and then she instructed me to research and write a paper with...show more content... Not only had I put a lot of work into composing the paper, but also the majority of the class had received much higher grades. Until this point I had always felt very capable of reaching my academic goals however when I received my grade I felt very incompetent and was unsure of my abilities as a writer. Although it was a negative experience it showed me the skills I could and still can improve upon such as editing. I had realized after receiving my paper that certain areas of my English composition skills could be drastically improved upon. After looking over my paper I had noticed several mistakes that could have been avoided had I edited my paper a little more thoroughly. It was my own impatience and carelessness that negatively impacted my ability to edit my paper which in return affected and my grade and caused the disappointment I had experienced. I have since learned to edit my paper thoroughly and with patience. I learned a lot in my last English class including the fact that I have a lot more to learn and despite disappointing experiences I still feel I can become a great writer. • 5. Essay About Myself There are three very important aspects that play a major rule in my life. They can be categorized as intellectual, social, and spiritual. My intellectual self is interesting because I am mainly right–brained which means that I tend to use my creativity more than my mathematical skills, also making me a visual learner. My social self consists of friends, family, and my surroundings. I spend most of my time at home with my family. Whenever I am with my friends, I observe their behaviors and listen to their opinions. I am more of an independent type of person. Being with different people has influenced me into appreciating different cultures and beliefs. I have learned things that have now been incorporated into my own set of beliefs and...show more content... I find that I can only recall long–term memories if they are important to me, or if they are dramatic experiences. A few examples of my childhood memories are my mother reading to me, my grandfather playing his guitar, and my dad relentlessly teaching me how to ice skate, no matter how many times I fell. The people who affect my social life the most are my family and friends. I have an extremely close family that has played a major role in my life. They are whom I spend most of my spare time with. My family usually gathers every weekend for dinner. I am also very open to different religions, cultures, and practices because I know many people with different backgrounds and beliefs. Since I've been influenced by various people, I've learned at a very young age to never judge people by how they look, dress, feel, or act. I am very fortunate to have learned these lessons, because many people still do not understand the importance of accepting differences. In a group, I prefer to listen to what others have to say, and then contribute to the discussion. I try to listen so I am able to compare them to my own thoughts. I enjoy working in a group, because it gives everyone an opportunity to incorporate their own ideas. My social self is most greatly influenced by my family and friends. I believe that my spiritual self is the most important out of the three. Although I have a certain religion that I belong to and practice, I believe in a bit of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Personal Narrative-Me As A Writer Me as a Writer I don't really like writing because whenever my teacher tells me to write about something I start to get confused on what to say then I start to get mad at myself and start to cry.The best thing I have ever written is when I had to wrote about legos, it was a nine pages and alot idioms and more. My teacher one time gave me a story I had to write about and story that my teacher gave me was the story about the "The Girl in The Tree" and it was a really good story and when I wrote it it was pretty long but really confusing on what I should say in the story when I just got done reading the story. I learned a lot of new stuff in writing like where should put my commas at and a lot more stuff. My weakness is getting other Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Throughout this semester, I have seen myself grow as a writer in my discipline and about my discipline. This semester has been a great learning experience for me and Ms. Calow has taught me many techniques that I can use throughout my college career. At first it was difficult understanding how to write in and about my discipline. After while, I was able to effectively write and organize my papers the way professionals in my discipline do. During the course of the semester my grades have gradually improved, and I believe that is because of the peer reviews from my peers and the feedback that was given by my instructor. For my revisions, I chose to revise my Category 1: Project 1, and my Category 2: Project 3. These are the papers and projects where I recognized that too much was wrong within the writing. I also chose these projects because they are the projects I made the lowest grades on. Though the project grades...show more content... Through the semester, there have been many times where I didn't know what I was going to write or how I was going to write it but with the help of my peers and Ms. Calow I was able to complete my projects. At the beginning, I did not like writing about my discipline at all because I felt as if it was too confusing for me to write about. As the semester went along it became easier and easier to write about my discipline. I was happy when I was able to write in my discipline because I felt like I could express my thoughts and opinions as well as factual information that I researched. I liked writing in my discipline way more than writing about my discipline, because I felt like I had more of a connection with the audience that I was writing to. After this semester, I have seen my interest in writing rise from not liking writing at all, to actually enjoying writing. Hopefully I can continue to improve after this semester and become an even better writer in and about my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay About Myself as a Writer I don't consider myself a very good writer. I write when I am made to or when I have something that I need to say that I can't just tell someone. I keep a diary. Usually my diary is just a record of what I have done that day. It's not so much about my feelings. I don't really like talking about my feelings, usually because most of the time I am confused about what exactly I am feeling. I tend to keep the feelings that I do have to myself, to protect myself from getting hurt. I didn't have that many close friends in high school. I always was just kind of there. I was no one important. Everyone seems to have his or her place in this world of high school and it seemed that my place was on the outside that I...show more content... When I started my high school, I found my current best friend, Marie. We are still friends to this day; she just left for college at George Mason. So once again I'm not with my best friend. I'm not trying to make my life all depressing because it hasn't been all bad. And I realize that people have had things a lot worse happen to them, in their lives, and I should be thankful for what I have. But no matter what I have I just never seem truly happy. I always have this front up, and it seems like everything is going great, but deep inside, I'm falling apart. This comes out in my writing, and I think that writing is a good release from all of this. I always try to do my best when it comes to my class work and my writing, but I know that my writing isn't the best by any means. I always find it important to the best job that I can do, on school work and also in life. I think that a lot of what got me through writing papers in middle and high school was my mom. She was so great about reading over and correcting my papers. She stayed up many nights doing that for me. Not because she had to, but because she wanted to help me. There were so many other things she could have been doing, but instead she was helping me, and that means a lot to me. I'm kind of nervous about doing this all on my own. I'm excited thought o see what I can do on my own. I am so excited about starting new here, with a clean slate. I think that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. I Rate Myself As A Writer: A Critical Analysis As a reader on a scale from 1 to 10, I rate myself a 5 because I rarely read. The last time I read a full novel was in January 2015. In class, if I am told to read, I try to only read the parts I require or is the answer. On very rare occasions, I do read news articles, but usually only a few parts or lines of it. I usually try to watch the news rather than read it which doesn't benefit me as a reader since I have a little to no want in reading. I probably have to learn quite a bit more than just how to be a great reader but perhaps actually how to read. As a writer on a scale from 1 to 10, I rate myself a 5 because I have the experience of writing only very few essays in the last year and usually don't make grammatical or spelling errors. • 10. What I Learned In My Writing Style I have learned a lot about myself in the last twelve weeks. I discovered so much about my writing. I learned who I really am once I came out from behind the "Official Style" that I've clung to since junior high. I have to tell you, it was very difficult for me to let go. I felt lost and uncertain. But in the process I found myself, my style, and my voice. I learned to let myself come through in my writing. I have to admit, writing became a lot more fun and interesting. When I looked back and read my first paper for this class, I laughed. I couldn't believe how trapped in the O.S. I was. I remember thinking as I wrote it that I was getting away from theme writing, but the only reasons I thought this were because I used the first person,...show more content... It was only at the end of this quarter that I began to feel at ease writing in these other styles. I finally felt comfortable enough to challenge what had been taught to me as "the law" of writing. I wanted to do something different, to explore other styles and voices. I wanted to show Ms. Molitor that she doesn't know everything, that I don't have to write in the Official Style to be effective. Sometimes things are better when they're written differently. Another thing I know I did when I wrote this first paper was to write to please the teacher. I tried to sound like I really knew what I was talking about. I also made college out to be one big learning experience. Well, it is a learning experience, but not in the way I made it seem. I made it sound like every class I took taught me something new about myself. Well, that holds true if what I learned was how well I could do on a test if I didn't read the text or studied while watching Days of Our Lives (by the way, I'm really getting sick of that Lady in White, aren't you?). But I was sucking up, I know that. I wasn't going to say that some classes are a waste of time and money, and that the only reason I'm taking them is because I have to. That wouldn't have sounded very good because that's the reason I took this class. Truthfully, though, this is one class I actually got something out of (for real, I'm not sucking up here). I'm still learning things about my writing, and I'm having a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Who Are You As A Writer? Essay When presented with the question, "who are you as a writer?", I was speechless at first. But after thinking about it, I realized who I am as a writer has been influenced by so many different sponsors throughout my life and there was not a short, concrete answer. Brandt mentions that "literacy is sponsored by people, institutions, and circumstances that both make it possible for a person to become literate and shape the way the person actually acquires literacy." (Brandt 43) My attitude towards writing has been influenced by teachers, both negatively and positively, by my mother, and by academic assignments over the years. My answer to the question can only be answered by a narrative of my writing life. I have convinced myself that I am a terrible writer, and when presented with a writing assignment, I get anxious instantly. I see writing as a burden and a huge obstacle that gets placed in my life. Academic writing is not fun, but something I value due to the fact that we are a grade driven society. When writing, I write to the guidelines in order to receive points for the requested criteria. The reason being, I gave up on expressing my own ideas because I had been shut down by so many teachers throughout my education. I tried to write down what came to my mind and put my own twist on things, but that was not the "right" way to write papers. In order to make both my teachers and my grades happy, I wrote what they wanted to hear, and even then I was not to the level they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. My Experience As A Reader And Writer As a reader and writer I always faced given assignments with the intent of doing exceptional jobs and take a sense of pride in my work to complete my tasks. As a reader, I will bore myself through out an entire book and realize I didn 't understand a single thing. Although as a writer, I can go on for so long losing myself on a topic because it feels more interactive. Reflecting on my experiences as a reader and writer have been very bold, I never really found a joy or an interest to become the exceptional student who stands out amongst others because, I always felt ok with myself and my results with the way I did things. A Majority of the time I will only read what I have been assigned because reading will not be my preference of task simply because I will lose focus and wonder off into thinking about what my girlfriend might be doing. My useful method that I discovered about myself when reading alone so I can remain focused is looking up summaries of the book like spark notes, before I read so I can understand the text more clearly. It is probably the worst thing to do because it does ruin the suspense or purpose of reading the book anyways, but it helps with remaining concentrated. I feel that I am this way because I am really picky with what I like to read, which in my case may be informative magazines like Men's health that can teach me something useful. I don 't have the best experiences with reading, possibly because teachers never showed us what Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 101 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. This was my first college writing course and it has given me much more freedom when writing because in high school I felt limited and like what we were writing was not very important. In high school I would write essays to just to fulfill the required word or page count and to a degree I still feel like this but maybe that is why I am an engineering major but in this course I actually was able to express my ideas and for the first time really test the limits of my writing capabilities. I really enjoyed being able to incorporate my voice more in my essays and I believe...show more content... The most important improvement for me in this course was on my grammar. I was not aware of the comma rules before. It was shocking to see where commas are to be put and the places that I usually miss. The Hacker lessons we did in and out of class on commas have improved my grammar significantly. Looking back through all of my graded essays it is unbelievable how many commas I have actually missed. Also, writing the essays in MLA format and including work cited entries and quotations, has helped me become more comfortable with it. When I write essays now, I do not hesitate or get anxious if I have to add a work cited entry. However, even though I have know a little bit more of when to use commas and have a little bit more knowledge about grammar there is still a lot of room for improvement. Some areas where I need to improve include transitions between paragraphs, being to repetitive, and my conclusions. This class has definitely helped me make my transitions better; however they still could use some improvement. I have to make sure that the reader can comprehend my thought process and that my transitions do not get in the way of the flow of the paper. In some of the rough drafts for my essays I could not find links between paragraphs at all but after work shopping in class I believe that they have significantly improved. I also need to make sure that I do not repeat the same ideas or words too many Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Personal Narrative: Myself As A Writer I am Mariela Barragan and I am in your Tuesdays and Thursdays Freshman Composition class. To me a writer is someone who is creative, who really loves to write, and someone that can express ideas and feelings into words and puts it out there for others to read about. I don't consider myself to be a writer because first of all I don't like writing and second of all I have a lot of difficulty expressing my ideas into words. I don't like writing. I never did and to be honest I don't think that I'll ever will. I am more of a math person because I like numbers not words. I don't write at all unless I absolutely have to write. I find writing to be a lot of tedious work and I try to avoid it. When you write, for the most part you have to make outlines, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. What I Learned For Myself As A Writer I learned that when you write a paper you should know who your audience is and their level of knowledge, beginner writer tends to generalize their audience and that result from being misunderstood or misinterpret by their audience so know your audience is essential to be a good writer, Also I learned that everything in your paragraph must have a connection to each other, first it is important to have a clear topic sentence follow by 3 good example that prove the point of the topic sentence and finish by conclusion, a conclusion should is like a summarization of all the things you have said in your writing. • 16. My Autobiography Of Myself As A Writer My Autobiography of Myself as A Writer Coming back to school after a ten–year break was the best choice I made. When I started this English 102 class with Dr. Brockman, I didn't feel that I was a great writer. I knew I had so much to stay; the struggle was putting in on paper. I knew that regardless of how hard this class was for me, I was going to see it through. I produced 3 major papers to this class. My First paper was on Advertising titled Off with Her Head; My second paper was written on Panopticism titled Heaven or Hell? My third paper was a research paper of my choice; I chose to write on Educational Success for Hispanic Students. After my first paper was submitted on to blackboard on Advertising, I felt good about my writing. After evaluating my writing in my portfolio, I had to answer these questions: If I had more time to change my writing what would I change? What was my favorite piece of writing? and What was my least favorite piece of writing? If I had more time to change my writing, I would definitely ask for help understanding the assignment. I would change my research paper topic. My favorite piece of writing was Heaven or Hell? I enjoyed this piece of writing; I had a good understanding of Panopticism by Michael Foucault. I was able to relate it back to my life. With a clear understanding, I was able to show my understating in my writing. My least favorite piece of writing was the research paper. Although, I was very interested in the topic the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Examining Myself As A Writer Examining yourself as a writer Writing has never been my strong suit, simply because I am not interested in the given topics. However, the times I really like to write is when I can talk about a topic I love talking about. In those essays, I can write non–stop, but as a college student, in my experience, "free write" topics are rarely given, which brings a weak spot to me. If there is no free write assignment, often times it is a topic I cannot relate to. I need to learn how to get out of my comfort zone when it comes to writing. The best writing I have ever done was over this past summer. I wrote on the topic "Black Lives Matter vs. All Lives Matter". Since I am so admit about the situation, I had plenty to write. • 18. What I Learned About Myself As A Writer Over this quarter of English, I have learned many things out of the three to four essays that we have written. I have learned how to write college papers in the appropriate page requirements. Our teacher noticed after the first two essays we wrote that we suffered from sentence fragments, sentence run ons, and comma splices. I have learned how to fix those errors in my papers that I write. A thing I have learned about myself as a writer is that I write very well when a paper is about my personal life because it is easier to write about yourself than about a topic that you are just researching for the first time. If the paper is about my life experiences, I would get a good grade on it. The challenges I have faced is having the effort to keep going when I run out of ideas when writing a paper. When I get to three and a half pages out of four pages for a paper, I always run out of ideas and fuel to keep going. Once I get to the third page, I always feel like I am just repeating the same things I already stated in the previous pages because I have little motivation left. I am working hard to change that about my papers but it's still a work in progress. As I stated I struggle with keeping my papers interesting even in the end, that is something that I am trying to improve on and get better with. I would also like to improve on sounding more intelligent in my papers and getting better writing skills. Based on these things that I'm trying to get better at, there is this one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Describe Yourself As A Writer When I was young, I always knew that college is important to the major that you choose. When I see my aunt, I ask many questions about college and how it is like. I thought it would be challenging and stressful. Then it was stressful because I want to improve my writing. When I see myself as a writer, I think about the process, then I consider the improvements I need to make, and lastly the strengths I have. First, I think about the writing process. When the teacher or professor give me an essay, I start right away. I start right away because I don't want my work to be late and I have other assignment to do for other classes. Once I read the prompt, I start my outline to know what to write in my essay. I just think about what I know and don't know, then put it onto paper. For the outline, I will do sentences or sometimes words only. It depends on the topic or essay I write. I find the outline is a helpful way to get started. After the outline, I start researching the topic. I use the internet for the research. I use it because it is helpful. It is helpful because I take examples of how to start. I use google and look at images of essays. It provides inspiration for the essay....show more content... • 20. Me as a Writer As a writer, I think that I am not as good as I thought I was back in high school. I see myself as a student who tries their best, but makes "B" average work. I have never really taken the time to relate to my papers. I always just wrote what the teacher wanted and handed it in. In my mind, I never really liked trying to explain in full detail what something meant. Back in high school, my teachers always wanted me to explain my writing in such depth that a kindergartener would understand why Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy. Trying to explain my writing was always very tiring. I often would get bored trying to explain and just stop writing and do something else for a while. Most of the time in high school I didn't like writing. Mainly...show more content... One way to calm my inner critic is a quote from Allegra Goodman's article called Calming the Inner Critic and Getting to Work on page 309. "Love your material. Nothing frightens the inner critic more than the writer who loves her work. The writer who is enamored of her material forgets all about censoring herself. She doesn't stop to wonder if her book is any good, or who will publish it, or what people will think. She writes in a trance, losing track of time, hearing only her characters in her head." What this means to me is that if I truly let my mind go and only focus on the material, I will be able to write the paper without having my inner critic confuse me. In an article called The Composing Processes of Unskilled College Writers by Sondra Pearl on page 201, there is a strategy that I used to help with writing a paper. "Given any topic, the first operation he performed was to focus in and narrow down the topic. He did this by rephrasing the topic until either a word or an idea in the topic linked up with something in his own experience (an attitude, an opinion, an event). In this way he established a connection between the field of discourse and himself and at this point he felt ready to write." The strategy that he uses to organize his thoughts is the same way I start my papers. I start with just words that relate to the topic and figure out how to put them in my writing so they make sense to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
