Smoking Persuasive Essay
Although smoking is seen as a right of freedom, it has numerous consequences that not only damage
smokers. According to David M. Ludington, "Cigarette smoke is the most dangerous of the toxic
elements in our environment. Smoking is responsible for almost 500 000 deaths each year in the
United States" (1). For the reason that many citizens are not well informed with the effects of
smoking, the United States has a high death rate per year. The act of smoking in public should be
banned, for it can influence any uninformed individuals to acquire the habit of smoking, which leads
to future health risks. Smoking imposes hazardous health problems to anyone nearby, and
inclusively contributes to various environmental and social problems.
Smoking can cause imminent health issues to all who choose to smoke. Lung cancer, asthma, heart
attacks, and lung diseases are some of the results from smoking. Many do not take this in account of
when attracted to smoking. For this reason, it is unethical for authorities to not fully illegalize
smoking in public. Individuals have the freedom to smoke, yet the government must oversee the
whole impact to the communities. People of all ages are vulnerable to what their naked eye
perceives. If and when innocents desire to smoke, they would have now exposed themselves to a
path of health risks. This course of action is proven to repeat throughout generations as it has been
since American Indians first introduced tobacco to the European settlers. It is

Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the world but unfortunately it is the nation that has the
most number of "baby" smokers in Europe. Many teens in Italy start to smoke because they want to
feel like adults or they want to show off infront of their friends. We must also say that in Italy
smoking is more of a social thing too; for example when you want to hang out with a friend,
sometimes you ask if he or she wants to smoke a cigaret in company. I tried my first cigarette when I
was only 15 years old and looking back at it now I regret it so much. My best friend at that time,
offered me a cigaret and the ignorant and immature me did not want to refuse it and appear a loser
in front of all my other friends. That, unfortunately, become the first of many and many other
cigarettes. It was not until 17 that I got addicted and dependent from smoking, after having heard a
false myth about how cigarettes make you lose weight in a blink of an eye. At first smoking was
like a game, trying to feel adults and going against what my parents were telling me and then I
became so addicted to cigarettes that I am still here those days struggling to get out of this bad habit,
that was just harming my health.
One of the biggest problems in my life that I am still working today after almost two years in
trying, it is to quit smoking. I am so addicted to the smell, the taste and the action of bringing the
cigarette to my mouth that it seems almost impossible for me to get out of this bad habit. The
biggest reason why I am so determined in trying to put to an end on my smoking addiction is
because it causes harm to my health, both physically and mentally. A cigarette contains a pretty high
number of substances that are harmful to our body. The adverse effects of these substances can lead
to tumor, strokes and heart attacks, a decrease in oxygenation of tissues, carcinogenicity. This are
only some of the many negative effects that cigarettes have on our body. Carbon monoxide is in my
opinion the most dangerous of the substance that composes a cigarette. Carbon monoxide is a very
toxic gas that borns from the combustion of nicotine and adversely affects the transport of oxygen
though my body, which is why I sometimes

Persuasive Speech About Smoking
You've probably heard that the American Heart Association has declared sitting as the new smoking.
Chances are, your first thought when you heard this was something like "whatever...just one more
thing that's bad for me". But, If sitting is the new smoking, then I could be in trouble and I bet most
of you could be too.
Many of us have jobs where we sit all day. The only moving around we do is to walk to the
bathroom, walk to our car, or walk to someone's office. And when we get to those destinations,
what do we do? We usually sit. For me, I sit in sessions with my clients, I sit at my desk, I sit with
my interns, and I sit when I'm on the phone. Usually, I move around more at home when I'm feeding
my dogs, fixing my dinner, or doing...show more content...
If your building is a high–rise, take the elevator for a few floors then take the stairs the rest of the
way.
If it's been a while since you've exercised, don't go all in with this right away. In other words, if
you 're supposed to be at your desk at 8:00, don't run into the building at 7:58 and expect to
quickly climb several flights of stairs. Allow time to stop on the landings to catch your breath, drink
some water, and wipe the sweat. Eventually you'll climb those stairs like a champ, but it could be a
bit of a challenge in the beginning.
4. When you travel, don't just sit there waiting for your flight. Walk around!
I know waiting can be long and boring, especially if your flight is delayed, but walking around can
help. Bookstores, shops, and restaurants line the terminals of the Austin airport, and most major
airports in this country. You can wander around without getting too far from your gate. If perusing
airport shops isn't your thing, at least set an alarm on your phone to get up and walk around every
hour. 5. Stay at hotels with fitness centers or swimming pools...and use them.
For some this can be hard because once you get to your room at the end of the day, leaving to go to
the fitness center is harder than pulling teeth. An alternative is to take a jump rope or resistance band
with you and do some light exercise in your room. Don't have these? No problem! Jumping jacks
and stretching can do wonders for you. Of course, there are exercise DVDs to

Cigarette Smoking Persuasive Speech
Cigarette smoking is one of the biggest habits in the world at present. More than 16 million people
already have at least one disease from smoking. (CDC,2015) Cigarette smoking is estimated to lead
to 4.9 premature deaths per year, with this number predicted to rise to a shocking 10 million by
2020. (Novartis Foundation,2009) Cigarette smoking is a detrimental habit which leads to Cancer,
heart disease and COPD. (Novartis Foundation,2009) I believe in order to improve the health of
citizens and increase the population, cigarette smoking should be banned. Cigarettes, ex–smokers,
and life–long non–smokers are often compared. (Novartis Foundation,2009) The findings show that
the mortality of continuing (Novartis Foundation,2009) cigarette smokers is, on average, at least
twice (Novartis,2009) that of life–long non–smokers throughout middle and old age. (Novartis
Foundation,2009) In other words, for those who smoke cigarettes regularly smoking is, in adult life

In the US alone nearly 258 billion cigarettes were sold in 2016. While advertizing that cigarettes
are hazardous to your health, smoking has only gone down about 10% since 1997. Tobacco is a
drug and it should be treated like one. If a doctor has not prescribed it, it should be considered drug
abuse and illegal. Like many other drugs, smoking hurts the user. However, smoking is not only
hurting the user, it is also hurting the people around them. In addition to banning tobacco, the entire
production of it should be banned as well. When a smoker is smoking there are often people
around. Even if the smoker is using a smoking designated area nearby people are still getting the
effects of the smoke. Smoking designated areas only protect nearby people, at best, from around
50% of the tobacco smoke. That is considering every smoker is using a designated smoking area.
The Lancet states that, "Worldwide, 40% of children, 33% of male non–smokers, and 35% of female
non–smokers were exposed to second–hand smoke in 2004." Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS)
kills up to 53,000 nonsmokers a year. ETS is the third leading preventable cause of death in the
US. When exposed to tobacco smoke, children are at more of a risk. Compared to adults, children
are more likely to develop ear infections, respiratory problems such as coughing and wheezing, and
other respiratory diseases such as asthma. Tobacco smoke is also connected to sudden infant death
syndrome. Sudden infant death syndrome is the unexpected death of a child that is under the age
of one. To make matters worse second hand smoke plays a major role in low birth weight in
infants. If a mother or father has been exposed to secondhand smoke it can impair fertility. So not
only is tobacco smoke hurting kids as they grow up, but it also hinders them from the moment they
are born.
In the article "Dangers of Secondhand Smoke" by Elizabeth Smoots she states that " Within 30
minutes after exposure to ETS, the coronary arteries of nonsmokers function as poorly as those of
regular smokers." This means that smokers are making other people smoke, without even having a
cigarette in their own hand. Even with little exposure the effects of secondhand smoke are about
80% to 90% as

In modern American society, many Americans still use various means to smoke, from cigarettes,
e–cigarettes, to Vape. Where Americans have been smoking cigarettes ever since tobacco was
created, which is not necessarily a positive thing. Since smoking not only prematurely damages
internal organs, but causes premature death. Consequently, this has not prevented Americans from
smoking, as many people still do, despite the dangerous facts they know about them. In fact,
smoking cigarettes has been a popular pastime ever since it was first being cultivated, and has not
stopped since then. In which cigarettes is an American phenomenon that Americans and others are
still willing to purchase and use these products, whether it be regular or e–cigarettes. Where smoking
is killing many Americans, which is not stopping anytime soon, even though the amount of smokers

who are around that type of environment. Where they experience second hand smoking, which is

happening with adults, but with adolescents who fall victim to traps set up by the tobacco industry.
Despite doctors determining that smoking is unhealthy for Americans, it has not prevented many of
them from continuing to do so.

smokers and relatively few stopping, annual tobacco–attributable deaths will rise from about 5

of people are still dying because of tobacco, even though scientific evidence that shows that it is bad

Persuasive Essay : The Dangers Of Smoking
You've all probably seen a cigarette before. You've probably even smelled cigarette smoke before.
But do you know all the dangers that come with it? Some of you may know a few of the dangers,
such as smoking being able to cause lung cancer, but is that all you know? About 400,000 people die
every year because of the tobacco in a cigarette. Even though cigarettes are small and have a small
amount of tobacco, it is still very deadly. About 65,000 of those 400,000 people die from obstructive
lung cancer. About 45 people die every hour! Imagine how many people die every day. And if you
do decide to smoke, just know that you typically lose 7 years of your life. You could live 7 years
longer if you don't smoke. I know 7 years doesn't seem like a lot, but right now, 7 years is about
half of mine and many other children's lives. So tell me, do you think smoking is a good idea? For
instance, if you see someone smoking, steer clear of them. Smoking isn't only dangerous for the
smoker, it also effects anyone around them. This is also a thing called second hand smoke. Can
you believe that every year around 9000 people die from just breathing in cigarette smoke? Not
even pets are safe. Many animals tend to have skin and chest complaints. Another reason to stay
away is because only 15% of the cigarette smoke is taken in by the smoker, and the rest of the
smoke is released into the air. If your parents smoke regularly, imagine how much smoke you
intake. Knowing that second hand smoke can be very dangerous, imagine what is going on in your
body right now. Your lungs could be starting to get damaged, or maybe the smoke is affecting other
parts if your body such as the heart. Those who happen to have smoking parents and are around
cigarette smoke daily are 10% to 30% more likely to get lung cancer than other children who aren't
around smoke daily. Second hand smoke is another one of the many reasons to not smoke. Besides,
you probably knew that when you smoke you tend to smell bad, but there's plenty of other reasons
why it's so unattractive. Your skin tends to turn pale because when you smoke, your blood cells are
being restricted. Just think of what it would feel like to try and get tan in the summer, and not being

Smoking is the leading cause of over 480,000 deaths each year in the United States alone. This
makes smoking the second leading cause of death in the United States. Smoking is a serious issue
that has been limited throughout time, but these limitations are not enough. Smoking needs to be
eliminated, it needs to be illegal. Smoking causes many complications for your health, the
environment, and others. Smoking is known to cause many serious diseases and completely
damage one's health. As a consequence of smoking, it can affect one's physical appearance.
Smoking can affect one's appearance in numerous ways such as yellow teeth, stretch marks,
aging quicker, age spots, yellow nails, and the list goes on. Smoking mainly affects your skin
because the smoke from cigarettes contains carbon monoxide. When you smoke you are
breathing in carbon monoxide which replaces the oxygen in your skin. Also, since cigarettes
contain nicotine, a toxic colorless oily liquid, it reduces the blood flow to one's skin. Since you
are not receiving oxygen or blood flow to your skin it causes your skin to become dry and
discolored. Smoking also has a great impact on the smoker's voice. When a smoker smokes it
degrades their lung function, this means that there is a lack of airflow causing a smokers voice
to become deeper and raspy. Smoking mainly damages the vocal cords because the smoke irritates
and dries the tissue. Smoking can cause irreversible damage to one's physical features, but the
biggest scare is what happens on the inside of a smoker's body. Smoking puts you at
extraordinarily high risks for multiple types of cancers; that can develop almost anywhere inside the
body. The most common cancers a smoker can develop are stomach, lung, mouth and throat,
bladder, cervix, kidney, liver, and pancreas. Doctors believe that smoking can put you at risk for at
least thirteen different types of cancers. Smoking has an immense effect on the lungs which causes a
huge risk for lung cancer. Smokefree NHS states, "Coughs, colds, wheezing and asthma are just the
start. Smoking can cause fatal diseases such as pneumonia, emphysema and lung cancer. Smoking
causes 84% of deaths from lung cancer and 83% of deaths from chronic obstructive pulmonary

Smoking kills. Smoking can cause cancer and other bad diseases. Also, companies have made
cigarettes in different flavors which are worse than regular cigarettes. People who smoke can be
addicted. If you try to stop smoking cold turkey, it will give you headaches and stomachaches. I
wanted to research this topic because I have some really close friends and they have family that
smoke. Their great–grandpa died from smoking. Also, I noticed a lot of people are dying because
they made the bad decision to smoke. Some people started to smoke when they were teenagers.
They got addicted to it, and now they can't stop smoking. I wanted to try to find a way people
who smoke can stop. How can countries solve and stop smoking? This problem can be solved and
it will be solved because countries are starting to ban smoking from certain places.
People that smoke are the people that get all the unhealthy stuff in a body like cancer and many
diseases that can be caused."If smoking persists at the current rate among young adults in this
country, 5.6 million of today's Americans younger than 18 years of age are projected to die
prematurely from a smoking–related illness. Another 100,000 were babies who died of sudden infant
death syndrome (often referred to as SIDS) or complications from prematurity, low birth weight, or
other conditions caused by parental smoking, particularly smoking by the mother. "Smoking has
been around for a long time. The problem with smoking became worse when "production climbed
markedly when another cigarette–making machine was developed in the 1880s by James Albert
Bonsack, which vastly increased the productivity of cigarette companies, which went from making
about 40,000 hand–rolled cigarettes daily to around 4 million." Smoking is a problem around the
world because it causes lung cancer, many other cancers, and some horrible diseases. This problem
should be solved because "More than 10 times as many U.S. citizens have died prematurely from
cigarette smoking than have died in all the wars fought by the United States during its history."
According to SIR'S article "Adolescent Cigarette Smoking

Why One Should Stop Smoking
Smoking is a huge problem in today's society. Many people don't understand the consequences that
come with smoking. Cigarettes and marijuana are very common uses of smoking. As a college
student I am able to the effects these two drugs have on students mental and physical abilities.
People shouldn't smoke because not only does smoking affect your everyday way of live but they
may also kill you. People who become addicted to these certain substances know the risks but don't
care because they are mentally attached to the drugs that destroy their body. Marijuana affects the
brain the most while tobacco affects organs in your body. According to the article "Weed Smoke VS.
Cigarette Smoke: Which is worse?" By Delilah Butterfield "When it comes to the of smoking,
research suggests that tobacco is far more harmful to the lungs than cannabis. Both marijuana and
tobacco increase the chances of lung cancer. "People who are under 55 had an increased chance
increased chance in forming a type of lung cancer" (Morris). If are diagnosed with asthma then
these two substances can make your breathing problem 90% worse than what it was. Most smokers
don't even know what they are smoking in reality. Tobacco and marijuana are made to calm the
nerves of the human body (They are downers) but, they also are made of multiple poisonous and
chemical substances. Tobacco contains chemicals like "Nicotine (the addictive drug that produces
the effect that people are looking for and one of harshest chemicals in tobacco smoke), Hydrogen
cyanide, Lead, Arsenic, Ammonia, Radioactive elements, carbon monoxide, etc." (3, The American
Cancer Society) All of these elements put together form one of the deadliest products that is sold all
over the world, called a cigarette. Companies created E– Cigarettes claiming that they were less
harmful to the body but these products also contain addictive nicotine that can cause mental
dependence on nicotine (The American Cancer Society). In the last paragraph we learned multiple
chemicals that create tobacco but marijuana also is made with dangerous chemicals. "Marijuana
contains at least 60 chemicals called cannabinoids. Researchers

If your life line was reduced with each puff of a cigarette you smoke, would you take another?

This fear causes many to not to smoke or if they are smokers give up smoking. While others even
after seeing the dramatic advertisements don't stop for many reasons including addiction. Why
does fear in advertisement work for some and not others? I don't think researchers really know, it
has a lot to do with how one is raised and the life experiences each person has had. In 2014 the
CDC ran its third consecutive year federally funded anti–smoking ad campaign called "Tips From
Former Smokers (Tips)". This time it broke up the advertisement campaign into 2 phases, with phase
1 running advertisements from its 2012 and 2013 campaigns and phase 2 featuring completely new
advertisement's. An estimated 1.8 million smokers attempted to quit smoking because of the 2014
ad campaigns.
Most people are divided when it comes to anti–smoking advertisements. Some believe they will quit
when they are ready and not be pressured by guilt into quitting, while others believe the
advertisement does not apply to them. I know firsthand, my father felt this way, he was born in
1939, he began smoking at an early age. In the nineteen forties and fifties there were not many
studies linking cancer or other illnesses to tobacco use. Smoking cigarettes was the thing to do,
tobacco advertisements on television and magazines was the norm. When I was six years old my
father was diagnosed with lung cancer, and eventually it spread to his heart and brain.

We all know what we want, we want a society that disapproves of smoking, a society that says no to
smoking, a non–smoking society where people live a full life and don't die from the brutality of
smoking.
It goes without saying that I know what we want: we want a blue sky, the gorgeous sun beaming
upon us–not a sky full of that wretched, foul, cancer–causing smoke that we inhale into our angelic
bodies, don't you? As one we can work together to stop this madness, to stop this appalling,
problematic soul–wrenching substance.
I want the country of Russia, a place engulfed in the sweltering smoke, inundated in red hot flames
to be free from it! The country of Greece, a place buried with smoke to be free from its curse! Two
of the many countries where people smoke the most.
Smoking is a detrimental habit that should be stopped, this satanic substance that causes so much
harm to our bodies. It can cause over 14 different types of cancer, it can reduce your athletic
performance, diagnose you with pneumonia and many, many more. In England alone over 15% of
the adult population smoke this minacious substance, that's 15% of the England's population that
have a risk of getting the variety of diseases, you don't want that to happen...do you? Well, I don't!
Many people say that it is unfavourable, many say that it is pleasurable. Well, I say that it is
horrendous– smoking should be illegal! Surely, the amount of harm it does to the smoker's body
and the people around him or her is too great to be unnoticed. It is vital to do this because smoking
kills over 430,000 people in the United States alone each year and costs them thousands of dollars
in health care for smoking related medical issues. Although health care for smokers also costs the
government millions, they refuse to ban the easily addictive drug from hands of civilians. This is
because of the profits that tobacco production and sales, a disgrace to us, make for the economy
each year. This is inexcusable because it is putting the importance of money and the stimulation of
the economy before citizens' health and lives. Think about the children, you don't want a society
where your little boy grows up to be an addict just because of the influence caused by you! You!

Persuasive Essay On Teenage Smoking
What is smoking? Smoking is an unhealthy act in which a substance is burned and the resulting
smoke to be breathed in and absorbed into the bloodstream. Smoking is an addiction that can be
extremely difficult to break. It can cause many major negative effects on a persons life in a short
amount of time. Smoking is a harmful and financially reckless addiction that should be prevented at
all costs, especially in young teenagers. Cigarettes are made from a variety of harmful substances.
For starters, there are over 4000 chemicals in one single cigarette. Nicotine, Carbon Monoxide, and
Arsenic are only three of the many poisonous structures within a single cigarette. These few
things alone can already cause such damage. A question someone might ask would be: "If
smoking is so harmful, why would someone pick up their first cigarette in the first place?"
Smoking is a big deal this time of age. Teenagers describe smoking as something cool and fun to
do. People see everyone around them smoking, making it seem like smoking is okay. Sometimes
seeing a parent or a role model smoke can make it seem okay as well. Other times the person may
not want to smoke but feel pressured into it because of peer pressure; this happens to be more
common with teenagers. A few teenagers smoke for the attention of it. Others smoke because of
their curiosity on what its like to smoke. Many people smoke because they are stressed or nervous;
this is mostly common with adults. Lastly, a simple reason

Imagine lying in a hospital bed dying of lung cancer caused by cigarettes yet have not smoked a
single cigarette. The effects of cigarettes do not only hurt those who smoke, but hurt those around
the person that smokes. "In 2005, it was estimated that exposure to secondhand smoke kills more
than 3,000 adult nonsmokers from lung cancer, approximately 46,000 from coronary heart disease,
and an estimated 430 newborns from sudden infant death syndrome." (HHS 2006). Smoking in
public should not be allowed to be done whenever the person smoking wishes.
People that carelessly smoke with others around set terrible examples for younger generations.
This is especially seen with children around. If a person who smokes does so with their children
around that child could possibly look up to that person and look at smoking as something that is
popular. "Each day in the United States, over 3,800 young people under 18 years of age smoke their
first cigarette, and over 1,000 youth under age 18 become daily cigarette smokers." (HHS 2012)
Smoking is also detrimental to the environment. This is a result of people who smoke tend to throw
their cigarette butts on the ground. Cigarettes are not biodegradable and will continue to lie in the
street or on the sidewalk until they are swept away into our sewer system, which therefore ends up
polluting our water systems. Littering alone is wrong, but this also leaves the butts laying around
for small children to pick up or animals to take and eat. Not

People with smoking, alcohol and drug problems usually go through a lot of stress because quitting
is very hard. Quitting has many, many stages in it. First and foremost, you have to look at the pros
and cons of your decisions. Well, try to think about what are you missing? The foul smell? The
yellow teeth? The feeling of suffocating next morning? What have they done to affect my
friendships, my relationship with my family, my schoolwork, my extracurricular activities, sports,
and my insurance? What will happen to my kids if my addiction continues? First I'll be talking
about smoking addictions. Did you know that kids are twice as susceptible to smoking with
parents that smoke around them (Joel Schwarz)? That's not a very good thing to know if you're a

what's best for their children. Smoking attacks your heart and circulatory system in many areas. It

It was December 19th, 2017 when my life changed forever. When I took that first breath of
nicotine–infused smoke into my lungs. I watched it swirl out of my mouth, dancing on the frosty

left were the glowing embers at the end of the cigarette. I dropped it, smashed it into the black and
cracked asphalt, lit another cigarette, and repeated the whole process.
That's when my addiction started. I was fifteen at the time, still am. No one would have guessed that

Smoking has been a popular topic lately. From my perceptive, I have never heard anything positive
about smoking health wise. I recall watching vintage commercials about cigarettes when they first
came into light, one major statement each commercial presented was the exquisite taste of the
cigarettes and how cool it makes you look. And I understand how individuals are lured by the
commercials. The companies paint a perfect life image with the alpha male smoking on the cigarettes
with his leading lady and people craved that. The commercials feature many celebrities which I
believe many folks looked up to and those commercials glorified the cigarettes without mentioning
the reciprocations.
This glorification has been carried from the 20th to the 21st century. There are a signification
amount of reasons why individuals have chosen to smoke, a couple of examples are to look cool,
relieve anxiety, or experiment. Peer pressure is something that is extremely popular in the
adolescent phase because teens want to be accepted by their peers they will do anything to fit in
even if that means their life is at risk, but if you have to put yourself and others in danger to be
impressive then you should not have any business doing that act.

and my parents were doing it, so why should not I do it? Most of growing up my parents would
always say something along the lines of, "I need a cigarette before I can deal with this". Noticeably,
this is not a healthy coping mechanism with life's stressors so now the addiction part plays a huge
part when why I am still using this unhealthy 'coping mechanism'. I am not blind to the damage I
am doing to my body with every puff of toxins I breathe into my lungs, however; it is a very
convenient way to forget about the world for a brief seven minutes. With all of that said, I would
love to change my unhealthy life choices. During the two–week assessment period, I have realized
many of my triggers that stimulate my desire to smoke a cigarette. One of the triggers is my
environment, more specifically the nightlife. For some reason, whenever I am out, enjoying drinks
with friends a cigarette seems very fitting. Another trigger is stressful situations such as
interpersonal relationships issues, tests, studying or ironically, a change agent paper. The time of
day also plays a role in my smoking schedule. For some reason, my morning does not feel
completely start until I have had my morning cigarette nor does my day feel completely ended until
my last cigarette of the day.

Persuasive Essay About Smoking
During one's lifetime they will make over a thousand mistakes that they will regret. One of those
thousand mistakes they will regret will be smoking tobacco and tobacco products. Many people are
going to regret smoking for multiple and various reasons that I am going to discuss in this essay.
The reason I chose smoking as my Rhetoric topic is because the addiction people have to it. Also,
another reason is because of the effects it has on people around it. The last reason why I chose
smoking is because of Second–hand smoke. Second hand smoke is when the person next to an
individual is inhaling all the smoke from a person who is smoking. Second–hand smoke as an adult
increases your chance of getting Pharynx, the throat, Larynx, is the reason people have voice boxes.
Getting Pharynx is an oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer caused by using tobacco mainly by
pipes or cigars. Pharynx symptoms are usually changes in your voice, major weight loss, a unusual
cough and difficulty swallowing, according to cancer.org. If you have Pharynx cancer you will
need multiple radiology sessions to have it removed and that is not to have it removed completely.
Larynx on the other hand has sort of the same symptoms as Pharynx but, also have a lump in your
neck and or usually a earache. Second–hand smoking for children increases their risk of Leukemia,
Liver cancer, and Lymphoma. Leukemia is a form of cancer that starts in your stem cells of the
bone marrow, which makes blood cells. Leukemia is also a common cancer between children and
teens. For most children and teens Leukemias' symptoms contain fever, weakness, weight loss, and
easy bleeding or bruising. The average cost of Leukemia treatments are about $46,000 to $47,000
and that is not including the diagnosis cost. The treatments to battle Leukemia vary on about your
age and health, the most common treatment is Chemotherapy, which is the goal to stop or slow the
growth of cancer. Chemotherapy damages the cancer cells inside your body but, also at the same
time it damages your white and red blood cells, and the Platelets. Your Red blood cells carry the
oxygen throughout your body, the White blood cells help fight the body from infections, and the
Platelets are the pieces

Persuasive Essay On Smoking
As absurd as it sounds, there was a time that smoking was sociably acceptable in our society and
there were many advertisements on television promoting the sale and use of cigarettes. The
advertisements abruptly quit airing when the United States Surgeon General confirmed that smoking
cigarettes causes harmful side effects to your health such as cancer. Now, consider that every health
agency in the world wants to give out tips, but is anyone honestly listening to the tips or do they just
toss them out like the butts of a smoked cigarette, which leads to this "Quit Now" campaign
advertisement ("I Never"). The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) started this
campaign in 2012 and the advertisement has a picture of a woman on it, she is not smiling, she has
a blank stare in her eyes and a hole in her throat. They use former smokers to talk about their
diminishing health issues that range from losing their teeth to more serious complications like losing
their limbs that are all direct results from smoking cigarettes. These real–life scenarios establish the
basis for the reasons why everyone should kick the smoking habit and become a quitter. Now, let's
discuss the alluring colors that were chosen for this advertisement.
Starting with a neutral grayish silver background that gives a delicate look to the page while not
overwhelming the reader's eyes. The flow from the background color into the next portion which is a
blue accent color that people associate with the ocean or the sky and represent openness, trust,
serenity and transparency, which is what Terrie is doing in this advertisement by sharing her heart
wrenching story of how smoking cigarettes has taken so many things from her for example her voice
and teeth ("Understanding"). Then the bold white lettering reminds us of purity – being clean – with
the subliminal effect to conduce the audience to clean up their act and quit smoking. These colors
work well together and complement each other by not overpowering the message that the
advertisement is portraying about needing to quit smoking. Consequently, hospitals and government
agencies are known to use this type of color scheme on their websites or in their offices because
they offer a professional

Persuasive Essay About Smoking

  • 1. Smoking Persuasive Essay Although smoking is seen as a right of freedom, it has numerous consequences that not only damage smokers. According to David M. Ludington, "Cigarette smoke is the most dangerous of the toxic elements in our environment. Smoking is responsible for almost 500 000 deaths each year in the United States" (1). For the reason that many citizens are not well informed with the effects of smoking, the United States has a high death rate per year. The act of smoking in public should be banned, for it can influence any uninformed individuals to acquire the habit of smoking, which leads to future health risks. Smoking imposes hazardous health problems to anyone nearby, and inclusively contributes to various environmental and social problems. Smoking can cause imminent health issues to all who choose to smoke. Lung cancer, asthma, heart attacks, and lung diseases are some of the results from smoking. Many do not take this in account of when attracted to smoking. For this reason, it is unethical for authorities to not fully illegalize smoking in public. Individuals have the freedom to smoke, yet the government must oversee the whole impact to the communities. People of all ages are vulnerable to what their naked eye perceives. If and when innocents desire to smoke, they would have now exposed themselves to a path of health risks. This course of action is proven to repeat throughout generations as it has been since American Indians first introduced tobacco to the European settlers. It is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persuasive Essay About Smoking Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the world but unfortunately it is the nation that has the most number of "baby" smokers in Europe. Many teens in Italy start to smoke because they want to feel like adults or they want to show off infront of their friends. We must also say that in Italy smoking is more of a social thing too; for example when you want to hang out with a friend, sometimes you ask if he or she wants to smoke a cigaret in company. I tried my first cigarette when I was only 15 years old and looking back at it now I regret it so much. My best friend at that time, offered me a cigaret and the ignorant and immature me did not want to refuse it and appear a loser in front of all my other friends. That, unfortunately, become the first of many and many other cigarettes. It was not until 17 that I got addicted and dependent from smoking, after having heard a false myth about how cigarettes make you lose weight in a blink of an eye. At first smoking was like a game, trying to feel adults and going against what my parents were telling me and then I became so addicted to cigarettes that I am still here those days struggling to get out of this bad habit, that was just harming my health. One of the biggest problems in my life that I am still working today after almost two years in trying, it is to quit smoking. I am so addicted to the smell, the taste and the action of bringing the cigarette to my mouth that it seems almost impossible for me to get out of this bad habit. The biggest reason why I am so determined in trying to put to an end on my smoking addiction is because it causes harm to my health, both physically and mentally. A cigarette contains a pretty high number of substances that are harmful to our body. The adverse effects of these substances can lead to tumor, strokes and heart attacks, a decrease in oxygenation of tissues, carcinogenicity. This are only some of the many negative effects that cigarettes have on our body. Carbon monoxide is in my opinion the most dangerous of the substance that composes a cigarette. Carbon monoxide is a very toxic gas that borns from the combustion of nicotine and adversely affects the transport of oxygen though my body, which is why I sometimes Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Persuasive Speech About Smoking You've probably heard that the American Heart Association has declared sitting as the new smoking. Chances are, your first thought when you heard this was something like "whatever...just one more thing that's bad for me". But, If sitting is the new smoking, then I could be in trouble and I bet most of you could be too. Many of us have jobs where we sit all day. The only moving around we do is to walk to the bathroom, walk to our car, or walk to someone's office. And when we get to those destinations, what do we do? We usually sit. For me, I sit in sessions with my clients, I sit at my desk, I sit with my interns, and I sit when I'm on the phone. Usually, I move around more at home when I'm feeding my dogs, fixing my dinner, or doing...show more content... If your building is a high–rise, take the elevator for a few floors then take the stairs the rest of the way. If it's been a while since you've exercised, don't go all in with this right away. In other words, if you 're supposed to be at your desk at 8:00, don't run into the building at 7:58 and expect to quickly climb several flights of stairs. Allow time to stop on the landings to catch your breath, drink some water, and wipe the sweat. Eventually you'll climb those stairs like a champ, but it could be a bit of a challenge in the beginning. 4. When you travel, don't just sit there waiting for your flight. Walk around! I know waiting can be long and boring, especially if your flight is delayed, but walking around can help. Bookstores, shops, and restaurants line the terminals of the Austin airport, and most major airports in this country. You can wander around without getting too far from your gate. If perusing airport shops isn't your thing, at least set an alarm on your phone to get up and walk around every hour. 5. Stay at hotels with fitness centers or swimming pools...and use them. For some this can be hard because once you get to your room at the end of the day, leaving to go to the fitness center is harder than pulling teeth. An alternative is to take a jump rope or resistance band with you and do some light exercise in your room. Don't have these? No problem! Jumping jacks and stretching can do wonders for you. Of course, there are exercise DVDs to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Cigarette Smoking Persuasive Speech Cigarette smoking is one of the biggest habits in the world at present. More than 16 million people already have at least one disease from smoking. (CDC,2015) Cigarette smoking is estimated to lead to 4.9 premature deaths per year, with this number predicted to rise to a shocking 10 million by 2020. (Novartis Foundation,2009) Cigarette smoking is a detrimental habit which leads to Cancer, heart disease and COPD. (Novartis Foundation,2009) I believe in order to improve the health of citizens and increase the population, cigarette smoking should be banned. Cigarettes, ex–smokers, and life–long non–smokers are often compared. (Novartis Foundation,2009) The findings show that the mortality of continuing (Novartis Foundation,2009) cigarette smokers is, on average, at least twice (Novartis,2009) that of life–long non–smokers throughout middle and old age. (Novartis Foundation,2009) In other words, for those who smoke cigarettes regularly smoking is, in adult life in the USA, as hazardous as all other causes of death combined, (Novartis foundation,2009) Those killed by tobacco lose an average of 21 years of life....show more content... (Novartis Foundation,2009) The CDC has started an anti–smoking campaign. (CDC,2015) This campaign shares anti–smoking stories. One of the stories was a woman named Annette(CDC,2015) who after deciding to quit smoking found out she already had lung cancer(CDC,2015), Annette consequently had one lung removed and became ill with oral (CDC,2015) cancer as well. Luckily Annette received the benefits from quitting her habit (CDC,2015) is now cancer free and able to speak about her Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Smoking In the US alone nearly 258 billion cigarettes were sold in 2016. While advertizing that cigarettes are hazardous to your health, smoking has only gone down about 10% since 1997. Tobacco is a drug and it should be treated like one. If a doctor has not prescribed it, it should be considered drug abuse and illegal. Like many other drugs, smoking hurts the user. However, smoking is not only hurting the user, it is also hurting the people around them. In addition to banning tobacco, the entire production of it should be banned as well. When a smoker is smoking there are often people around. Even if the smoker is using a smoking designated area nearby people are still getting the effects of the smoke. Smoking designated areas only protect nearby people, at best, from around 50% of the tobacco smoke. That is considering every smoker is using a designated smoking area. The Lancet states that, "Worldwide, 40% of children, 33% of male non–smokers, and 35% of female non–smokers were exposed to second–hand smoke in 2004." Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) kills up to 53,000 nonsmokers a year. ETS is the third leading preventable cause of death in the US. When exposed to tobacco smoke, children are at more of a risk. Compared to adults, children are more likely to develop ear infections, respiratory problems such as coughing and wheezing, and other respiratory diseases such as asthma. Tobacco smoke is also connected to sudden infant death syndrome. Sudden infant death syndrome is the unexpected death of a child that is under the age of one. To make matters worse second hand smoke plays a major role in low birth weight in infants. If a mother or father has been exposed to secondhand smoke it can impair fertility. So not only is tobacco smoke hurting kids as they grow up, but it also hinders them from the moment they are born. In the article "Dangers of Secondhand Smoke" by Elizabeth Smoots she states that " Within 30 minutes after exposure to ETS, the coronary arteries of nonsmokers function as poorly as those of regular smokers." This means that smokers are making other people smoke, without even having a cigarette in their own hand. Even with little exposure the effects of secondhand smoke are about 80% to 90% as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Persuasive Essay On Smoking In modern American society, many Americans still use various means to smoke, from cigarettes, e–cigarettes, to Vape. Where Americans have been smoking cigarettes ever since tobacco was created, which is not necessarily a positive thing. Since smoking not only prematurely damages internal organs, but causes premature death. Consequently, this has not prevented Americans from smoking, as many people still do, despite the dangerous facts they know about them. In fact, smoking cigarettes has been a popular pastime ever since it was first being cultivated, and has not stopped since then. In which cigarettes is an American phenomenon that Americans and others are still willing to purchase and use these products, whether it be regular or e–cigarettes. Where smoking is killing many Americans, which is not stopping anytime soon, even though the amount of smokers has decreased over time. In addition, it not only affects the people who are smoking it, but others who are around that type of environment. Where they experience second hand smoking, which is still as harmful as actually smoking a cigarette. In which is a tremendous epidemic that is not only happening with adults, but with adolescents who fall victim to traps set up by the tobacco industry. Despite doctors determining that smoking is unhealthy for Americans, it has not prevented many of them from continuing to do so. In which, a good portion of people are still buying cigarettes, even though they are proven to be bad for their health. Where many people are still dying from the diseases and illness that it causes. For example, according to the New England Journal of Medicine, "On the basis of current smoking patterns, with a global average of about 50% of young men and 10% of young women becoming smokers and relatively few stopping, annual tobacco–attributable deaths will rise from about 5 million in 2010 to more than 10 million a few decades hence..." (Jha and Peto). In which, millions of people are still dying because of tobacco, even though scientific evidence that shows that it is bad for people's health. • 7. Persuasive Essay : The Dangers Of Smoking You've all probably seen a cigarette before. You've probably even smelled cigarette smoke before. But do you know all the dangers that come with it? Some of you may know a few of the dangers, such as smoking being able to cause lung cancer, but is that all you know? About 400,000 people die every year because of the tobacco in a cigarette. Even though cigarettes are small and have a small amount of tobacco, it is still very deadly. About 65,000 of those 400,000 people die from obstructive lung cancer. About 45 people die every hour! Imagine how many people die every day. And if you do decide to smoke, just know that you typically lose 7 years of your life. You could live 7 years longer if you don't smoke. I know 7 years doesn't seem like a lot, but right now, 7 years is about half of mine and many other children's lives. So tell me, do you think smoking is a good idea? For instance, if you see someone smoking, steer clear of them. Smoking isn't only dangerous for the smoker, it also effects anyone around them. This is also a thing called second hand smoke. Can you believe that every year around 9000 people die from just breathing in cigarette smoke? Not even pets are safe. Many animals tend to have skin and chest complaints. Another reason to stay away is because only 15% of the cigarette smoke is taken in by the smoker, and the rest of the smoke is released into the air. If your parents smoke regularly, imagine how much smoke you intake. Knowing that second hand smoke can be very dangerous, imagine what is going on in your body right now. Your lungs could be starting to get damaged, or maybe the smoke is affecting other parts if your body such as the heart. Those who happen to have smoking parents and are around cigarette smoke daily are 10% to 30% more likely to get lung cancer than other children who aren't around smoke daily. Second hand smoke is another one of the many reasons to not smoke. Besides, you probably knew that when you smoke you tend to smell bad, but there's plenty of other reasons why it's so unattractive. Your skin tends to turn pale because when you smoke, your blood cells are being restricted. Just think of what it would feel like to try and get tan in the summer, and not being able Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Persuasive Essay Smoking Smoking is the leading cause of over 480,000 deaths each year in the United States alone. This makes smoking the second leading cause of death in the United States. Smoking is a serious issue that has been limited throughout time, but these limitations are not enough. Smoking needs to be eliminated, it needs to be illegal. Smoking causes many complications for your health, the environment, and others. Smoking is known to cause many serious diseases and completely damage one's health. As a consequence of smoking, it can affect one's physical appearance. Smoking can affect one's appearance in numerous ways such as yellow teeth, stretch marks, aging quicker, age spots, yellow nails, and the list goes on. Smoking mainly affects your skin because the smoke from cigarettes contains carbon monoxide. When you smoke you are breathing in carbon monoxide which replaces the oxygen in your skin. Also, since cigarettes contain nicotine, a toxic colorless oily liquid, it reduces the blood flow to one's skin. Since you are not receiving oxygen or blood flow to your skin it causes your skin to become dry and discolored. Smoking also has a great impact on the smoker's voice. When a smoker smokes it degrades their lung function, this means that there is a lack of airflow causing a smokers voice to become deeper and raspy. Smoking mainly damages the vocal cords because the smoke irritates and dries the tissue. Smoking can cause irreversible damage to one's physical features, but the biggest scare is what happens on the inside of a smoker's body. Smoking puts you at extraordinarily high risks for multiple types of cancers; that can develop almost anywhere inside the body. The most common cancers a smoker can develop are stomach, lung, mouth and throat, bladder, cervix, kidney, liver, and pancreas. Doctors believe that smoking can put you at risk for at least thirteen different types of cancers. Smoking has an immense effect on the lungs which causes a huge risk for lung cancer. Smokefree NHS states, "Coughs, colds, wheezing and asthma are just the start. Smoking can cause fatal diseases such as pneumonia, emphysema and lung cancer. Smoking causes 84% of deaths from lung cancer and 83% of deaths from chronic obstructive pulmonary Get more content on HelpWriting.net

People who smoke can be addicted. If you try to stop smoking cold turkey, it will give you headaches and stomachaches. I wanted to research this topic because I have some really close friends and they have family that smoke. Their great–grandpa died from smoking. Also, I noticed a lot of people are dying because they made the bad decision to smoke. Some people started to smoke when they were teenagers. They got addicted to it, and now they can't stop smoking. I wanted to try to find a way people who smoke can stop. How can countries solve and stop smoking? This problem can be solved and it will be solved because countries are starting to ban smoking from certain places. People that smoke are the people that get all the unhealthy stuff in a body like cancer and many diseases that can be caused."If smoking persists at the current rate among young adults in this country, 5.6 million of today's Americans younger than 18 years of age are projected to die prematurely from a smoking–related illness. Another 100,000 were babies who died of sudden infant death syndrome (often referred to as SIDS) or complications from prematurity, low birth weight, or other conditions caused by parental smoking, particularly smoking by the mother. "Smoking has been around for a long time. The problem with smoking became worse when "production climbed markedly when another cigarette–making machine was developed in the 1880s by James Albert Bonsack, which vastly increased the productivity of cigarette companies, which went from making about 40,000 hand–rolled cigarettes daily to around 4 million." Smoking is a problem around the world because it causes lung cancer, many other cancers, and some horrible diseases. This problem should be solved because "More than 10 times as many U.S. citizens have died prematurely from cigarette smoking than have died in all the wars fought by the United States during its history." According to SIR'S article "Adolescent Cigarette Smoking , "Cigarettes remain the world's most effective weapon of mass destruction."The world should eliminate Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Persuasive Essay On Stop Smoking Why One Should Stop Smoking Smoking is a huge problem in today's society. Many people don't understand the consequences that come with smoking. Cigarettes and marijuana are very common uses of smoking. As a college student I am able to the effects these two drugs have on students mental and physical abilities. People shouldn't smoke because not only does smoking affect your everyday way of live but they may also kill you. People who become addicted to these certain substances know the risks but don't care because they are mentally attached to the drugs that destroy their body. Marijuana affects the brain the most while tobacco affects organs in your body. According to the article "Weed Smoke VS. Cigarette Smoke: Which is worse?" By Delilah Butterfield "When it comes to the of smoking, research suggests that tobacco is far more harmful to the lungs than cannabis. Both marijuana and tobacco increase the chances of lung cancer. "People who are under 55 had an increased chance increased chance in forming a type of lung cancer" (Morris). If are diagnosed with asthma then these two substances can make your breathing problem 90% worse than what it was. Most smokers don't even know what they are smoking in reality. Tobacco and marijuana are made to calm the nerves of the human body (They are downers) but, they also are made of multiple poisonous and chemical substances. Tobacco contains chemicals like "Nicotine (the addictive drug that produces the effect that people are looking for and one of harshest chemicals in tobacco smoke), Hydrogen cyanide, Lead, Arsenic, Ammonia, Radioactive elements, carbon monoxide, etc." (3, The American Cancer Society) All of these elements put together form one of the deadliest products that is sold all over the world, called a cigarette. Companies created E– Cigarettes claiming that they were less harmful to the body but these products also contain addictive nicotine that can cause mental dependence on nicotine (The American Cancer Society). • 11. Persuasive Essay On Anti Smoking If your life line was reduced with each puff of a cigarette you smoke, would you take another? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) cigarette smoking causes about one of every five deaths in the United States. The CDC goes on to state cigarette smoking is estimated to cause more than 480,000 deaths annually (including deaths from secondhand smoke). Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death (CDC Web). 1 The anti–smoking advertisement appeals to pre–teen and adults of both genders by causing fear and awareness, which may have its audience reconsider beginning cigarette smoking or quitting. This anti–smoking advertisement makes its audience aware of the consequences cigarette smoke has on one's life....show more content... This fear causes many to not to smoke or if they are smokers give up smoking. While others even after seeing the dramatic advertisements don't stop for many reasons including addiction. Why does fear in advertisement work for some and not others? I don't think researchers really know, it has a lot to do with how one is raised and the life experiences each person has had. In 2014 the CDC ran its third consecutive year federally funded anti–smoking ad campaign called "Tips From Former Smokers (Tips)". This time it broke up the advertisement campaign into 2 phases, with phase 1 running advertisements from its 2012 and 2013 campaigns and phase 2 featuring completely new advertisement's. An estimated 1.8 million smokers attempted to quit smoking because of the 2014 ad campaigns. Most people are divided when it comes to anti–smoking advertisements. Some believe they will quit when they are ready and not be pressured by guilt into quitting, while others believe the advertisement does not apply to them. I know firsthand, my father felt this way, he was born in 1939, he began smoking at an early age. In the nineteen forties and fifties there were not many studies linking cancer or other illnesses to tobacco use. Smoking cigarettes was the thing to do, tobacco advertisements on television and magazines was the norm. When I was six years old my father was diagnosed with lung cancer, and eventually it spread to his heart and brain. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Persuasive Essay On Smoking We all know what we want, we want a society that disapproves of smoking, a society that says no to smoking, a non–smoking society where people live a full life and don't die from the brutality of smoking. It goes without saying that I know what we want: we want a blue sky, the gorgeous sun beaming upon us–not a sky full of that wretched, foul, cancer–causing smoke that we inhale into our angelic bodies, don't you? As one we can work together to stop this madness, to stop this appalling, problematic soul–wrenching substance. I want the country of Russia, a place engulfed in the sweltering smoke, inundated in red hot flames to be free from it! The country of Greece, a place buried with smoke to be free from its curse! Two of the many countries where people smoke the most. Smoking is a detrimental habit that should be stopped, this satanic substance that causes so much harm to our bodies. It can cause over 14 different types of cancer, it can reduce your athletic performance, diagnose you with pneumonia and many, many more. In England alone over 15% of the adult population smoke this minacious substance, that's 15% of the England's population that have a risk of getting the variety of diseases, you don't want that to happen...do you? Well, I don't! Many people say that it is unfavourable, many say that it is pleasurable. Well, I say that it is horrendous– smoking should be illegal! Surely, the amount of harm it does to the smoker's body and the people around him or her is too great to be unnoticed. It is vital to do this because smoking kills over 430,000 people in the United States alone each year and costs them thousands of dollars in health care for smoking related medical issues. Although health care for smokers also costs the government millions, they refuse to ban the easily addictive drug from hands of civilians. This is because of the profits that tobacco production and sales, a disgrace to us, make for the economy each year. This is inexcusable because it is putting the importance of money and the stimulation of the economy before citizens' health and lives. Think about the children, you don't want a society where your little boy grows up to be an addict just because of the influence caused by you! You! Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Persuasive Essay On Teenage Smoking What is smoking? Smoking is an unhealthy act in which a substance is burned and the resulting smoke to be breathed in and absorbed into the bloodstream. Smoking is an addiction that can be extremely difficult to break. It can cause many major negative effects on a persons life in a short amount of time. Smoking is a harmful and financially reckless addiction that should be prevented at all costs, especially in young teenagers. Cigarettes are made from a variety of harmful substances. For starters, there are over 4000 chemicals in one single cigarette. Nicotine, Carbon Monoxide, and Arsenic are only three of the many poisonous structures within a single cigarette. These few things alone can already cause such damage. A question someone might ask would be: "If smoking is so harmful, why would someone pick up their first cigarette in the first place?" Smoking is a big deal this time of age. Teenagers describe smoking as something cool and fun to do. People see everyone around them smoking, making it seem like smoking is okay. Sometimes seeing a parent or a role model smoke can make it seem okay as well. Other times the person may not want to smoke but feel pressured into it because of peer pressure; this happens to be more common with teenagers. A few teenagers smoke for the attention of it. Others smoke because of their curiosity on what its like to smoke. Many people smoke because they are stressed or nervous; this is mostly common with adults. • 14. Persuasive Essay About Smoking Imagine lying in a hospital bed dying of lung cancer caused by cigarettes yet have not smoked a single cigarette. The effects of cigarettes do not only hurt those who smoke, but hurt those around the person that smokes. "In 2005, it was estimated that exposure to secondhand smoke kills more than 3,000 adult nonsmokers from lung cancer, approximately 46,000 from coronary heart disease, and an estimated 430 newborns from sudden infant death syndrome." (HHS 2006). Smoking in public should not be allowed to be done whenever the person smoking wishes. People that carelessly smoke with others around set terrible examples for younger generations. This is especially seen with children around. If a person who smokes does so with their children around that child could possibly look up to that person and look at smoking as something that is popular. "Each day in the United States, over 3,800 young people under 18 years of age smoke their first cigarette, and over 1,000 youth under age 18 become daily cigarette smokers." (HHS 2012) Smoking is also detrimental to the environment. This is a result of people who smoke tend to throw their cigarette butts on the ground. Cigarettes are not biodegradable and will continue to lie in the street or on the sidewalk until they are swept away into our sewer system, which therefore ends up polluting our water systems. Littering alone is wrong, but this also leaves the butts laying around for small children to pick up or animals to take and eat. Not Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Persuasive Essay About Smoking People with smoking, alcohol and drug problems usually go through a lot of stress because quitting is very hard. Quitting has many, many stages in it. First and foremost, you have to look at the pros and cons of your decisions. Well, try to think about what are you missing? The foul smell? The yellow teeth? The feeling of suffocating next morning? What have they done to affect my friendships, my relationship with my family, my schoolwork, my extracurricular activities, sports, and my insurance? What will happen to my kids if my addiction continues? First I'll be talking about smoking addictions. Did you know that kids are twice as susceptible to smoking with parents that smoke around them (Joel Schwarz)? That's not a very good thing to know if you're a smoker. That means that your kids will suffer the same as you have and a parent always want what's best for their children. Smoking attacks your heart and circulatory system in many areas. It raises blood pressure and stresses your heart, which over time can weaken it and make your heart less effective. Your blood becomes viscous and sticky, which in turn makes it harder to pump (What Happens To Your Body When You SMOKE & When You QUIT). After I had explored why I had started smoking in the first place and saw that it was for the best that I quit, and then I would find ways to not smoke. Triggers are things that make people want to do something. Many triggers for smoking involve partying, drinking, stressful situations and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Persuasive Essay About Smoking It was December 19th, 2017 when my life changed forever. When I took that first breath of nicotine–infused smoke into my lungs. I watched it swirl out of my mouth, dancing on the frosty December air. I loved it. So I took another drag from it, and another, and another, until all that was left were the glowing embers at the end of the cigarette. I dropped it, smashed it into the black and cracked asphalt, lit another cigarette, and repeated the whole process. That's when my addiction started. I was fifteen at the time, still am. No one would have guessed that I, Jacob Connors, the perfect "Golden Boy", would be smoking in an empty parking lot at 2:39 AM on a freezing December night. Well, here I am, doing exactly that. Now, why I started smoking is a mystery to everyone, except me. I smoke because the reasons no one sees. The wool over their eyes, if you will. All everyone ever sees is my so–called "perfect" life. I'm president of the debate team, I get all A's and I have since kindergarten, and I have the "perfect" family. My "perfect" mom is the head of the Board of Education, my "perfect" dad is the vice president of Stillwater Mining Company, and my "perfect" brother is MVP on several school sports teams and has girls, and a select few boys, fawning over him. Well none of that is true. Well, I do get all A's and I am president of the debate team, but I had to work harder than anyone else in my school to get those things. Also, my family is far from perfect. My mom is a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Persuasive Essay About Smoking Smoking has been a popular topic lately. From my perceptive, I have never heard anything positive about smoking health wise. I recall watching vintage commercials about cigarettes when they first came into light, one major statement each commercial presented was the exquisite taste of the cigarettes and how cool it makes you look. And I understand how individuals are lured by the commercials. The companies paint a perfect life image with the alpha male smoking on the cigarettes with his leading lady and people craved that. The commercials feature many celebrities which I believe many folks looked up to and those commercials glorified the cigarettes without mentioning the reciprocations. This glorification has been carried from the 20th to the 21st century. There are a signification amount of reasons why individuals have chosen to smoke, a couple of examples are to look cool, relieve anxiety, or experiment. Peer pressure is something that is extremely popular in the adolescent phase because teens want to be accepted by their peers they will do anything to fit in even if that means their life is at risk, but if you have to put yourself and others in danger to be impressive then you should not have any business doing that act. Life brings much baggage, everyone has them and everyone decides to deal with them differently, some people take the healthy route and meditate and do yoga while others drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes and etc. One place I was extremely surprised that had Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Persuasive Essay About Smoking Around the age of sixteen is when I began smoking cigarettes on a daily basis. For me, smoking a cigarette is a quick fix to the stress I experience throughout the day. All my friends were doing it and my parents were doing it, so why should not I do it? Most of growing up my parents would always say something along the lines of, "I need a cigarette before I can deal with this". Noticeably, this is not a healthy coping mechanism with life's stressors so now the addiction part plays a huge part when why I am still using this unhealthy 'coping mechanism'. I am not blind to the damage I am doing to my body with every puff of toxins I breathe into my lungs, however; it is a very convenient way to forget about the world for a brief seven minutes. With all of that said, I would love to change my unhealthy life choices. During the two–week assessment period, I have realized many of my triggers that stimulate my desire to smoke a cigarette. One of the triggers is my environment, more specifically the nightlife. For some reason, whenever I am out, enjoying drinks with friends a cigarette seems very fitting. Another trigger is stressful situations such as interpersonal relationships issues, tests, studying or ironically, a change agent paper. The time of day also plays a role in my smoking schedule. For some reason, my morning does not feel completely start until I have had my morning cigarette nor does my day feel completely ended until my last cigarette of the day. • 19. Persuasive Essay About Smoking During one's lifetime they will make over a thousand mistakes that they will regret. One of those thousand mistakes they will regret will be smoking tobacco and tobacco products. Many people are going to regret smoking for multiple and various reasons that I am going to discuss in this essay. The reason I chose smoking as my Rhetoric topic is because the addiction people have to it. Also, another reason is because of the effects it has on people around it. The last reason why I chose smoking is because of Second–hand smoke. Second hand smoke is when the person next to an individual is inhaling all the smoke from a person who is smoking. Second–hand smoke as an adult increases your chance of getting Pharynx, the throat, Larynx, is the reason people have voice boxes. Getting Pharynx is an oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer caused by using tobacco mainly by pipes or cigars. Pharynx symptoms are usually changes in your voice, major weight loss, a unusual cough and difficulty swallowing, according to cancer.org. If you have Pharynx cancer you will need multiple radiology sessions to have it removed and that is not to have it removed completely. Larynx on the other hand has sort of the same symptoms as Pharynx but, also have a lump in your neck and or usually a earache. Second–hand smoking for children increases their risk of Leukemia, Liver cancer, and Lymphoma. Leukemia is a form of cancer that starts in your stem cells of the bone marrow, which makes blood cells. Leukemia is also a common cancer between children and teens. For most children and teens Leukemias' symptoms contain fever, weakness, weight loss, and easy bleeding or bruising. The average cost of Leukemia treatments are about $46,000 to $47,000 and that is not including the diagnosis cost. The treatments to battle Leukemia vary on about your age and health, the most common treatment is Chemotherapy, which is the goal to stop or slow the growth of cancer. Chemotherapy damages the cancer cells inside your body but, also at the same time it damages your white and red blood cells, and the Platelets. Your Red blood cells carry the oxygen throughout your body, the White blood cells help fight the body from infections, and the Platelets are the pieces Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Persuasive Essay On Smoking As absurd as it sounds, there was a time that smoking was sociably acceptable in our society and there were many advertisements on television promoting the sale and use of cigarettes. The advertisements abruptly quit airing when the United States Surgeon General confirmed that smoking cigarettes causes harmful side effects to your health such as cancer. Now, consider that every health agency in the world wants to give out tips, but is anyone honestly listening to the tips or do they just toss them out like the butts of a smoked cigarette, which leads to this "Quit Now" campaign advertisement ("I Never"). The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) started this campaign in 2012 and the advertisement has a picture of a woman on it, she is not smiling, she has a blank stare in her eyes and a hole in her throat. They use former smokers to talk about their diminishing health issues that range from losing their teeth to more serious complications like losing their limbs that are all direct results from smoking cigarettes. These real–life scenarios establish the basis for the reasons why everyone should kick the smoking habit and become a quitter. Now, let's discuss the alluring colors that were chosen for this advertisement. Starting with a neutral grayish silver background that gives a delicate look to the page while not overwhelming the reader's eyes. The flow from the background color into the next portion which is a blue accent color that people associate with the ocean or the sky and represent openness, trust, serenity and transparency, which is what Terrie is doing in this advertisement by sharing her heart wrenching story of how smoking cigarettes has taken so many things from her for example her voice and teeth ("Understanding"). Then the bold white lettering reminds us of purity – being clean – with the subliminal effect to conduce the audience to clean up their act and quit smoking. These colors work well together and complement each other by not overpowering the message that the advertisement is portraying about needing to quit smoking. Consequently, hospitals and government agencies are known to use this type of color scheme on their websites or in their offices because they offer a professional Get more content on HelpWriting.net
