  • Thanks Jesse. Soldering magnet wire worked great; much easier than stripping wire. The keyboard works.

  • Wolfram, It's always worth testing, but I think you should be fine with the magnet wire. If you're wire-wrapping, the corners of the pin are actually sharp enough to score the magnet wire and make an electrical connection. I'd recommend trying a few keys of each technique and seeing which works best for you.

    I have a question about magnet wire.

    I got some magnet wire from radioshack, but the package says 'Note: Before making a connection, carefully scrape off a small amount of the insulation to ensure good electrical contact.'

    It would be easier to let the solder melt through the insulation as you suggested.
    Did I get the wrong kind of magnet wire?
    What kind of magnet wire can be soldered without scraping off its insulation?
