The first thirteen colonies were governed by Great Britain. The colonies included New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. These original thirteen colonies declared independence from Great Britain and formed the United States of America.
