Strategies for Building an 
Effective Relationships 
BY STUDENT
Background 
 A new position has been accepted as a Project 
Development Leader at an uncle’s manufacturing 
company 
 Previous work in non-managerial positions with the 
company has provided valuable experience within 
the company. 
 Recent graduation from college will help with 
leadership skills
Addressing Business Concerns 
 Revenues on the company’s main product line have 
been declining over the past three years. 
 Internal disputes among project managers are 
hindering productivity 
 There is a lack of ideas and innovative thinking.
Leadership Skills Needed to Succeed 
 Basic leadership skills are essential for a manager 
entering a new company 
 It will be essential to build strong relationships with 
fellow coworkers. 
 Goals will be set to resolve many of the recent 
problems being experienced by the company
Critical Thinking 
 Focus on big picture results 
 Find ways to innovate and optimize the existing 
infrastructure 
 Eliminate waste and inefficiencies
Collaboration 
 A history of bad relationships has hindered 
productivity. 
 Collaborative efforts will focus on the benefit of the 
entire group. 
 The goal will be to create synergy between different 
projects and departments.
Emotional Intelligence 
 Strong ability to understand personal emotions 
 Be able to understand the emotions of fellow 
coworkers 
 Use the emotions of other in a way that is 
advantageous to the organization.
Strategic Management 
 Strategic Managers can delegate tasks in an very 
effective manner 
 Exploit the unique talents of each person 
 Manage people in a way that takes advantage of 
strengths and limits weaknesses.
Building Relationships 
 Project leaders must work on building positive 
relationships together 
 It will be important to building a trusting role with 
subordinates 
 Several different relationship building skills can be 
used to achieve these goals.
Create Win-Win Relationships 
 Every individual has unique goals and aspirations 
 Sharing and discussing goals will be important 
 Conduct regular meetings to discuss progress 
towards goals 
 This can be applied to superiors and peers
Encourage Feedback 
 Feedback is necessary to grow and improve as a 
leader. 
 I will constantly seek feedback and advice from 
superiors. 
 Take proactive steps to implement feedback.
Team Building Activities 
 Arrange non-work events and activities 
 Encourage casual conversation that will create deep 
relationship bonding 
 Create activities that will force people to overcome 
shyness
Participatory Management 
 Participation will help build strong knowledge of 
company operations 
 Relationships can be build with low level workers 
 Ideas from workers can taken to high level decision 
makers
Product Testing 
 New products must be innovative to help improve 
falling revenue 
 Product testing will find weaknesses in existing 
products.
Efficiency Auditing and Analysis 
 Manufacturing companies must develop highly 
efficient internal processes. 
 Participation at this stage will help identify areas of 
waste in the process. 
 This will help leaders gain a better knowledge of 
employee skills.
Summary 
 Critical Thinking, Emotional Intelligence, Strategic 
Management, and Collaboration will be the basic 
leadership skills needed. 
 Team building and motivation can be used to 
develop strong relationships with colleagues and 
superiors. 
 Implementing these leadership tactics will help 
improve the culture and productivity of the 
company.

Background  A new position has been accepted as a Project Development Leader at an uncle’s manufacturing company  Previous work in non-managerial positions with the company has provided valuable experience within the company.  Recent graduation from college will help with leadership skills
  • 3. Addressing Business Concerns  Revenues on the company’s main product line have been declining over the past three years.  Internal disputes among project managers are hindering productivity  There is a lack of ideas and innovative thinking.
  • 4. Leadership Skills Needed to Succeed  Basic leadership skills are essential for a manager entering a new company  It will be essential to build strong relationships with fellow coworkers.  Goals will be set to resolve many of the recent problems being experienced by the company
  • 5. Critical Thinking  Focus on big picture results  Find ways to innovate and optimize the existing infrastructure  Eliminate waste and inefficiencies
  • 6. Collaboration  A history of bad relationships has hindered productivity.  Collaborative efforts will focus on the benefit of the entire group.  The goal will be to create synergy between different projects and departments.
  • 7. Emotional Intelligence  Strong ability to understand personal emotions  Be able to understand the emotions of fellow coworkers  Use the emotions of other in a way that is advantageous to the organization.
  • 8. Strategic Management  Strategic Managers can delegate tasks in an very effective manner  Exploit the unique talents of each person  Manage people in a way that takes advantage of strengths and limits weaknesses.
  • 9. Building Relationships  Project leaders must work on building positive relationships together  It will be important to building a trusting role with subordinates  Several different relationship building skills can be used to achieve these goals.

  • 12. Team Building Activities  Arrange non-work events and activities  Encourage casual conversation that will create deep relationship bonding  Create activities that will force people to overcome shyness
  • 13. Participatory Management  Participation will help build strong knowledge of company operations  Relationships can be build with low level workers  Ideas from workers can taken to high level decision makers
  • 14. Product Testing  New products must be innovative to help improve falling revenue  Product testing will find weaknesses in existing products.
  • 15. Efficiency Auditing and Analysis  Manufacturing companies must develop highly efficient internal processes.  Participation at this stage will help identify areas of waste in the process.  This will help leaders gain a better knowledge of employee skills.

Summary  Critical Thinking, Emotional Intelligence, Strategic Management, and Collaboration will be the basic leadership skills needed.  Team building and motivation can be used to develop strong relationships with colleagues and superiors.  Implementing these leadership tactics will help improve the culture and productivity of the company.

  2. I have accepted a new management position at my Uncle’s manufacturing company. Previous work for the company in various roles has provided a strong understanding of the internal operations of the company. My recent college graduation will help transition into a leadership role.
  3. The company has been struggling in recent years and revenues have declined drastically over the past three years. To make matters worse, there have be internal conflicts among other project managers. This has created a negative corporate culture that is lacking innovation.
  4. A strong leader should have a collection of basic skills to succeed in the workplace. The following slides will go over the most important skills required for success in this new position.
  5. The company has been struggling for several years and it will require critical thinking for a strong leader to get revenues back on track. It will be important to focus on big picture results, which include bringing revenue back to a positive direction. Innovative choices will be required to modernize infrastructure to attract new clients and reduce expenses. A successful project leader should be able to identify areas of waste and eliminate them quickly.
  6. This manufacturing company is in desperate need of improvement to collaboration. Project managers have been given too much independence and this has resulting in fighting between departments. Bringing the projects together through collaboration will help improve productivity across the board.
  7. Human beings are subject to wide range of emotions in the workplace that can include happiness, anger, boredom, frustration, etc. An effective leader must recognize their own emotions and not let them spread in a negative way. Leaders must also be able to recognize the emotions of coworkers and subordinates and ensue they are directed in a way that is beneficial to the company’s shareholders.
  8. Strategic thinking will be essential for future projects within the company. It will be necessary to utilize the unique talents of each person to complete projects that can makeup for the falling revenue. A leader will have to analyze each person’s strengths and weaknesses to create strategically oriented team.
  9. Negative relationships have been a major concern for the company over the last several years. It will be important to put s focus on repairing any issues that are currently harming culture of the organization.
  10. It is common for employees in a company to feel like their personal goals on not being considered. Building relationships that are win-win for both parties will ensure that positive actions will be taken in the workplace. Regular meetings can be held to help reassess goals on discuss new ideas.
  11. Receiving feedback from experienced leaders will help me grow into the position. There will be many skills to learn and develop and feedback can be used to constantly improve in the position.
  12. Team building is an activity that should be conducted on a regular basis to keep morale high. Employees will have the opportunity to forget about the stresses of work and simply focus on building deep relationships.
  13. There are many benefits for actively managing the operations of the company. The following slides will demonstrate the value of participatory management.
  14. As the company complete new products, it will be necessary to perform testing. As a leader, this will help identify areas of improvement that are required. Future projects can be improved based on the knowledge acquired during this step.
  15. It will be crucial to identify areas of waste within the manufacturing process. A respected leader in this field should also have a detailed understanding of every step within the process. Relationships with employees and superiors can be improved by participating at this stage.
  16. This will be a challenging leadership position that requires skills in the following fields: Emotional Intelligence, Strategic Management, and Collaboration. As strong relationships are developed with peers and superiors, it will be possible to improve the companies falling revenue and create a positive corporate culture.
