Design Thinking Overview (Previously Entitled "Design Thinking for Non-Designers")

[NOTE: Presentation title has been renamed from "Design Thinking for Non-Designers" to "Design Thinking Overview." Kindly note that all the other slides were unchanged.]

Design Thinking is a process for creative problem solving. It allows both designers and non-designers to use creative tools to address a vast range of challenges. The process is action-oriented, embraces simple mindset shifts and tackles problems from a new direction.

It encourages organizations to focus on the people they are creating for, which leads to better products, services, and internal processes. The framework can be used with analytical problem solving approaches such as Lean and Six Sigma.

This presentation is tailored generally for audiences who are new to Design Thinking and are interested to explore its application potential. You will learn how to solve problems creatively by building empathy, generating ideas, prototyping and testing new concepts before final implementation.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. Acquire knowledge on the key concepts and principles of Design Thinking
2. Understand the mindsets of a Design Thinker
3. Gain an overview of the Design Thinking process, methods and tools
4. Learn how to apply the Design Thinking approach to problem solving

CONTENTS
1. Key Concepts & Principles of Design Thinking
2. Mindsets of a Design Thinker
3. Design Thinking Process, Methods & Tools

  22. 22. © Operational Excellence Consulting. All rights reserved. 22 The Design Thinking Process Consists of 5 Action Phases Learn about the audience for whom you are designing, by observation and interview. Who is my user? What matters to this person? Create a point of view that is based on user needs and insights. What are their needs? Brainstorm and come up with as many creative solutions as possible. Wild ideas encouraged! Build a representation of one or more of your ideas to show to others. How can I show my idea? Remember: A prototype is just a rough draft! Share your prototyped idea with your original user for feedback. What worked? What didn’t? Empathize Define Ideate Prototype Test
