What is IELTS?
IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is
designed to assess the language ability of candidates who
need to study or work where English is used as the language
of communication. IELTS is required for entry to universities
in the UK and other countries. It is also increasingly being
accepted by businesses as evidence of linguistic ability.
IELTS offers two test formats: Academic and General
Training. Candidates can choose which format they wish

IELTS test covers four main skills -
reading, writing, listening, and

the band score you need, you'll
need to make sure you're strong in
all four skills.

Reading: The reading
section of the IELTS
exam consists of three
passages with a total of
40 questions. You'll
have 60 minutes to
answer all the questions.
The passages will get
progressively harder as
you move through them.
Writing: The writing
section of the IELTS
exam consists of two
tasks. In task 1, you'll be
asked to write a report
based on some data or
information. In task 2,
you'll be asked to write
an essay on a given
topic. You'll have 60
minutes to complete
both tasks.
To get the band score you need, you'll need to
make sure you're strong in all four skills.

Speaking: The speaking
section of the IELTS
exam is a face-to-face
interview with an
examiner. You'll be
asked a variety of
questions on different
topics. You'll have 11-14
minutes to answer all
the questions.
Listening: The listening

have 30 minutes to
answer all the questions.
