Distance education, or distance learning, is A field of
education that focuses on the pedagogy/andragogy,
technology, and instructional systems design that is
effectively incorporated in delivering education to students
who are not physically "on site" to receive their education.

the instructor and student are separated by space and time. The gap
between the two can be bridged through the use of technology - such as
audio tapes, videoconferencing, satellite broadcasts and online
technology - and/or more traditional delivery methods, such as the postal
service.

and/or physical distance and are making use of technology components,

In our modest opinion, we think that distance learning is an
informal process, and distance education is a formal
process. Learning is knowledge gained through
experience, and education is knowledge gained through
teaching. Education is something that an individual gets
from an outside source. On the other hand, learning is
something that evolves in the inner self. So we prefer to
use Distance Education term.

accepted norm until the middle of this
century, when instructional radio and television became
popular and then followed by a variety of more
advance technology.
