2. How do you know if your source a Journal or Book?
~Scan the “Source” section for dates:
A journal has a season and issue number.
A book has a year for the date, as well as Publication details,
such as the city and publisher.

3. Our example is a book. It doesn’t show a year at the
-It was in print originally top, so if you aren’t sure, click
-It is now available online on the “Source” for more
information
You will then
see that this
source is a
reference book.

4. Begin with “Book.” This is the format of your source.
You will be able to note that you found it in a
database in a few steps.

5. Select “reference book”.

6. Here is where you choose “online database.”

7. Next you will be asked a
little more about your
reference book.
The wizard wants to
know:
*What type of reference
book. Choose
encyclopedia, since you
have a reference book
with articles.
*If it was originally
printed, select “yes,”
because you have the
original publication info.

8. Noodle Tools Now we’re at the
entry screen.
Only 3 steps, and
you’re done!
Step 1: Enter in
Basic information
Title of
Article
Author of Article
Title of Reference Book
Our source

9. If you’re missing page #’s, skip it. Step 2: Info about the Print
Reference Book.
Scroll to the bottom of the
article, since we were missing
some information at the top of
the article:
Editor
Publication Information

10. Step 3: Database Information
The Database is:
Literature
Resource Center
The wizard will
automatically enter
in your date of
access.
MLA no longer
requires a URL. It’s Our source
unnecessary to use
one if your source is
a Database. (double
check with your
teacher)

11. You’re almost finished!
Click on “Check for Errors” to allow the wizard to double check
your information. If you’re not sure about its suggestions, check
with your teacher or Mrs. Hill.
Then click “Generate Citation” and here is your finished citation.
