What if we took Extreme Programming and said it’s not “extreme” enough? What if we took pair programming and cranked it to 11? Mob programming is a technique with “all the brilliant people working on the same thing, at the same time, in the same space, and on the same computer.” I was lucky enough to be on a team for about year that worked “as a mob.” Come learn what practices we found to be critical, what obstacles we encountered and what practices became irrelevant during our experience.

Session Title : A "Quality" Debate - Rethinking the mindset for non-negotiable Quality in Software Products Session Overview : One of the key reasons for embracing agility is faster feedback which helps improve the perceived quality of a software product. And every team is focused towards delivering quality, no one wakes up in the morning with an idea to introduce defects, we naturally ideate to solve problems. Unknowingly though, dysfunctions always creep in and identifying a dysfunction is extremely difficult especially when you are a part of the dysfunction. In this 45 min talk, discussion is about the importance of quality and how it's no longer negotiable even if Project Management principles tell us otherwise. Stories from past experience, and from organisations ranging from GM to Mumbai Dabbawalas that have embraced the "Quality is not Negotiable" principle and seen the difference. I present the context of defect severity and how these may create an illusion of quality; how accountability of a single person (e.g.: Product Owner) may result in a "Lack of Commitment" dysfunction; and how cost is not really proportional to quality especially when it comes to delivering virtual products and services related to it.

In summary, we have presented here a method for efficiently testing large parts of web-based software by using elements of code generation to generate automatable tests, and by using BDD concepts to model tests for non-generated screens and non-generated business actions. Further, we have described a method for context-based unit testing that, when combined with generated code and tests, yields an acceptable trade-off between development efficiency and time spent on testing

Getting software released to users can be risky, time-consuming and painful. The solution is the ability to deliver reliable software continuously through build, test and deployment automation, and through improved collaboration between developers, testers and operations. In this tutorial we will present principles and technical practices that enable teams to incrementally deliver software of high quality and value into production whenever they want, and extremely fast. The size of the project or the complexity of its code base does not matter. In the first half of the tutorial we will introduce the concepts of continuous delivery, through continuous integration; and automation of the build, test and deployment process. We will also go through som basic principles and patterns for building automatable applications (architecture). We will cover experiences on team collaboration patterns and lastly; techniques for solving tasks such as an easy and comprehendible version control strategy. The second half of the tutorial we will be working with automated provisioning of agile infrastructure, including the use of tools (puppet) to automate the management of testing and production environments. We will go through some scripting lessons examplifying how to implement zero-downtime deploys (… and rollback – if something goes wrong!), with examples in both bash and Ruby. Along with controlling the start, stop, restart lifecycles during deploys, we will also show some simple techniques for backups, logging, error handling, monitoring and verification of application health that can make the automation more robust. We will also use servers "in the cloud" to demonstrate different techniques, and we hope to make it a fun day and to deliver software (examples) several times throughout the workshop. Required knowledge: Agile/Lean basics, Linux basics, version control basics, maven basics.

When you’re building (micro)services, you have lots of framework options. Spring Boot is no doubt a popular choice. But there’s more! Take Quarkus, a framework that’s considered the rising star for Kubernetes-native Java. It always depends on what's best for your situation, but how to choose the best solution if you're comparing 2 frameworks? Both Spring Boot and Quarkus have their positives and negatives. Let us compare the two by live coding a couple of common use cases in Spring Boot and Quarkus. After this talk, you’ll be ready to get started with Quarkus yourself, and know when to select Quarkus or Spring Boot.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system. About authorWith two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the world’s largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Discover how Victor can help you on victorrentea.ro : company training catalog, consultancy and YouTube playlists.

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/why-teams-call-analytics-is-critical-to-your-entire-business Nothing is as frustrating and noticeable as being in an important call and being unable to see or hear the other person. Not surprising then, that issues with Teams calls are among the most common problems users call their helpdesk for. Having in depth insight into everything relevant going on at the user’s device, local network, ISP and Microsoft itself during the call is crucial for good Microsoft Teams Call quality support. To ensure a quick and adequate solution and to ensure your users get the most out of their Microsoft 365. But did you know that ‘bad calls’ are also an excellent indicator of other problems arising? Precisely because it is so noticeable!? Like the canary in the mine, bad calls can be early indicators of problems. Problems that might otherwise not have been noticed for a while but can have a big impact on productivity and satisfaction. Join this session by Christoph Adler to learn how true Microsoft Teams call quality analytics helped other organizations troubleshoot bad calls and identify and fix problems that impacted Teams calls or the use of Microsoft365 in general. See what it can do to keep your users happy and productive! In this session we will cover - Why CQD data alone is not enough to troubleshoot call problems - The importance of attributing call problems to the right call participant - What call quality analytics can do to help you quickly find, fix-, and prevent problems - Why having retrospective detailed insights matters - Real life examples of how others have used Microsoft Teams call quality monitoring to problem shoot problems with their ISP, network, device health and more.
