Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Primary Level 1 and 2

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer PRIMARY 1st cycle Characters: - 4 4 1 1 1 girl reindeer as Dancer, Blitzen, Cupid and Vixen. boy reindeer as Dasher, Comet, Donner and Prancer. boy reindeer as Rudolph Santa Claus Rudolph’s mummy Material: - 1 ball Red chalk (when you choose a Rudolph, colour his/her nose with red chalk) Some clothes (you can use the kids’ scarfs or jackets) to make Santa’s tummy really big. 1 piece of string Setting: Before starting the play, position the characters. Every time you do this in class use the same setting so they know where to start from. Santa Mum 8 reindeer centre stage Rudolph Rest of the class watching
  2. 2. Script Santa is centre stage and introduces himself: Santa Claus: Good morning! My name is Santa Claus. My hair is white. My tummy is very big. These are my reindeer. (points to the reindeer and leaves the scene) Dancer(carries a ball): Hello! My name is Dancer. I’m reindeer number 1. I’m seven years old. I´ve got black hair, I’ve got pink hooves and little antlers. This is Dasher my friend. (points to Dasher) Dasher: Hello! My name is Dasher I’m reindeer number 2. I’m seven years old. My favourite colour is __________ . I’ve got brown hooves, big antlers and green eyes. This is Blitzen. She is my friend. (He points to Blitzen) Blitzen: Hello! My name is Blitzen. I’m reindeer number 3. I’m eight years old. My favourite colour is __________. I love rainy days. I’ve got gray hair and blue eyes. My legs are long and my cheeks are pink. This is my friend Comet. (She points to Comet) Comet: Hello! My name is Comet. I´m reindeer number 4. I’m eight years old. My favourite colour is __________ . I’ve got brown hair. I’ve got long antlers. I’m a happy reindeer. This is my friend Cupid. (He points to Cupid) Cupid: Hello! My name is Cupid. I’m reindeer number 5. I’m seven years old. My favourite song is __________. I’m wearing earrings. My eyes are green. This is my friend, (She points to Donner) his name is Donner. Donner: Hello! My name is Donner. I’m reindeer number 6. I’m eight years old. My favourite colour is __________. I have a beard. I love stormy weather. This is my friend Vixen (He points to Vixen). Vixen: Hello! My name is Vixen. I´m reindeer number 7. I’m seven years old. My favourite colour is __________. My hair is purple. I love sports. I love running. This is my friend. His name is Prancer. Prancer: Hello! My name is Prancer. I’m reindeer number 8. I’m eight years old. My favourite colour is __________. I´ve got blue eyes. I´ve got brown hair and… This is Rudolph. He is not my friend.
  3. 3. Rudolph: Hi! My name is Rudolph, I’m eight years old. My favourite colour is________ and my nose is vey big and very red… (he says it very sadly) Dancer: Come here reindeer! Let’s play ! (they form a circle throwing the ball from one to another. They can count while they play or sing…) Rudolph approaches the group. Rudolph: Hello! Reindeer: (stop playing) Hello Rudolph! Rudolph: Can I play? Reindeer: No, No, No! You can´t play! Red Nose, Red Nose, Red Nose ! (they start playing again, and Rudolph tries again) Rudolph: Hello! Reindeer (stop playing) Hello Rudolph Rudolph: Can I play? Reindeer: No, No, No! You can’t play! Red Nose, Red Nose, Red Nose! (they play again, and Rudolph tries it again) (Rudolph runs away crying and he goes to his house where mummy is waiting) Rudolph: Mummy! Mummy! They won´t let me play with the ball! (pointing at them) Mummy: Don’t worry Rudolph. (Gives Rudolph a hug) Come on, let’s go to sleep. Rudolph: Ok mummy, good night. (he lies down and sleeps) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(the 8 reindeer keep playing until Santa Claus appears) TIP: Put some clothes under Santa’s sweater, so it looks like he has a huge tummy. Santa Claus: Hohohohoho!!! Good evening Reindeer!
  4. 4. Reindeers: Good night Santa! Santa Claus: Listen to me reindeer! It’s Christmas Eve! Come on! Let’s go to the sleigh!! (the 8 reindeer put themselves in a pairs and in rows (reindeer 1&2, reindeer 3&4…) , you can use some string here and they hold onto the string) Santa Claus: Are you ready? Reindeer: Yeees!!! Santa Claus: Let´s go! (the reindeer start to walk but they go very slowly) Reindeer: Santa! We can´t see! It´s very foggy! (they pretend they bump into a tree, or they can bump into the wall…they love that!) Reindeer: Santa! We can´t see! It´s very foggy! Santa Claus: Mmmmmmm…..(he puts his finger to his head) We have a problem….mmmmmmm…….Eureka! I have an idea! Reindeer, stop! Wait here please! (Santa Claus goes to Rudolph’s house and knocks on the door) Rudolph’s mummy: Good night Santa! How are you? Santa Claus: Good night! I’m fine thank you. Where is Rudolph? Rudolph’s mummy: Rudolph is sleeping in his bedroom. (Santa Claus enters and touches Rudolph’s shoulder with his finger) Santa Claus: Rudolph! Rudolph! Wake up! Wake up! (Rudolph wakes up and is very surprised) Rudolph: Santa!!!! Santa Claus: Let’s go Rudolph! Come with me!
  5. 5. (Santa and Rudolph go with the other reindeer, and Santa places Rudolph in the front row) Santa Claus: It’s a very foggy night. Your red nose can help. Santa Claus: Let’s go!!! (they walking ahead, without bumping into anything now, and Santa can throw presents to the rest of the children) Santa Claus: Ok! Let’s go home! (Back home Santa goes to Rudolph and says) Santa Claus: Good job Rudolph! All the reindeers say: Very good Rudolph! Thank you!! (Rudolph picks up the ball and asks the reindeer) Rudolph: Can I Play? Reindeers: Yes!!!!! Let´s play!!! (all the reindeer play together) AND THAT´S ALL!!! (Let them stand at the front of the class, ask for a big round of applause and the actors can bow pretending to be artists)

TIPS AND TRICKS  Remember that “We learn while we use and we use while we learn”.  Give them a lot of practice, include the story in your daily routine, explain it “with them”, not “to them”.  Practice the story first with their fingers, then with the flashcards.  Then, when they have learnt it, let them act it out. Act it out just once a day, if not they might get bored.  The class delegate can choose who he wants to be and can choose the rest of the characters.  Make them switch roles, so all of them will learn all the play.  After all this practice, they can use ice-cream sticks to create puppets to explain the story to their families.  You can coordinate with the Arts & Crafts teachers so they can create their antlers in the Arts class.
