Search for other professionals for referrals based on recommendations from the connections in your network. Collaborate with other professionals for research.

49. Social Media Policies Do not post confidential or proprietary information about the University of Central Florida, students, employees, or alumni. Adhere to all applicable university privacy and confidentiality policies. Some University social media sites don’t permit friends, followers or the general public to create new posts. For example: Facebook and blog pages or accounts should not give ‘everyone,’ ‘friends’ or ‘followers’ access to their wall or the ability to post.
50. Social Media Policy for Content You hope that the conversations follow the rules of ‘polite discourse’ and ask that participants treat each other, as well as your employees, with respect. Your employees should not post or approve post comments that include: Profanity and vulgar or abusive language Threats of physical or bodily harm Sensitive information (for example, information that could compromise public safety, intellectual property or national security) Offensive terms. For example, that target specific ethnic or racial groups
51. What to include in your Social Media Policy Include same guidelines for interacting with students, parents, alumni, donors, media, and other university constituents apply online as in the real world. Be aware that a presence in the social media world is or easily can be made available to the public at large. This includes prospective students, current students, current employers and colleagues, and peers.
52. What to include in your Social Media Policy Accounts created for offices and departments should not be tied to employee personal information—email addresses, passwords, etc. Department administrators are not monitoring Facebook, but may act on any violations of law or university policy if brought to their attention. Just because you don’t want them to look at your page doesn’t mean they can't or won't.
53. Social Media Policy: Your Personal Facebook Profile Page When you identifying yourself as an employee of your department within a social network, you are now connected to your colleagues, managers, and even the University’s students, prospective students, donors, parents, and other friends. Your online postings should always represent your personal point of view and not necessarily that of your where you work. When posting your point of view, you should neither claim nor imply you are speaking on your Department’s behalf.
54. Just to recap …. Build your foundation with Facebook and Linkedin. Develop your Social Media marketing strategy to give you a direction to grow your network. Find ways for your posts to show you’re “human” and show off your unique voice. Use Social Media programs to research, connect and collaborate with other like-minded professionals. Utilize online tools so you can work smarter not harder.
