Half of Americans (49%) plan to shop online earlier for gifts this holiday season. Eighty-two percent find free shipping where the product arrives in 5-7 business days more attractive, while 17% prefer fast shipping where the product arrives in one to two business days for a fee. Three in four Americans (77%) will track the packages that are being shipped to them. Americans who plan to shop online earlier for gifts this holiday season largely intend to do so to make sure they receive their packages on time (63%).

Another (21%) track the package three to five times, and (23%) track it six or more times www.pitneybowes.com Methodology: U.S. results are based on the findings of a telephone survey conducted by ORC International among two national probability samples, which, when combined, consists of 1,009 adults 18 years of age and older, living in the continental United States. Interviewing for this CARAVAN® Survey was completed on August 14-17, 2014. 609 interviews were from the landline sample and 400 interviews from the cell phone sample. The margin of error for total respondents is +/- 3.1% at the 95% confidence level. Intentions to shop online earlier by demographic 18-44 year olds (60%) 45-64 year olds (48%) 65+ year olds (25%) On-Time Delivery Americans who plan to shop online earlier for gifts this holiday season largely intend to do so to make sure they receive their packages on time (63%) On-time delivery far outweighs the need to have time for returns (17%) Free vs. Fast Shipping (82%) find free shipping where the product arrives in 5-7 business days more attractive, while (17%) prefer fast shipping where the product arrives in 1-2 business days for a fee Free shipping is more attractive to women (86%) versus men (77%)
