Introduce trainers and technical assistance team.
Brief comments on what the pilot is conceptually trying to do, how it informs the state-wide rollout and what we are hoping to improve for Michigan citizens. (Bring participants together in the important shared work!)
A date for “Not So Distant Future), even if an approximation would be helpful. It should be stated that the current system does not allow clients to report changes once they have submitted the application (via the system). The process for reporting changes will be covered in training, but for now, it is important to note that the goal is to have this function available online eventually/soon.
Overview of programs that will be part of the UWSEM pilot. Assure participants that each of these programs will be covered in detail during training sessions.
Training Track Quizzes should be passed out. Participants should be given 10 minutes to fill out before answers/scoring instructions (next slide) are put up
Be sure to give directions on where each training track is going.
-Be sure to ask each set of questions for both the FAP and SER applications. -Because folks will have more experience with FAP, be sure to give enough time for the SER questions.
Multiple Intelligences Handout should be distributed
Participants will practice the demonstration they will perform when large group reconvenes. -Two volunteers will be selected to be Tara Test and a client service provider as they assist Tara with her FAP & SER applications.
Overview of Session 1 FAP & SER for Novice/Beginners
I DO – Mini Lesson on Food Assistance Program. -Although these slides go into the programs in some detail, participants should know that the Toolkit will have specifics as well.
SSPC = Self Service Processing Center
SSPC = Self Service Processing Center
Using the Bryants fact sheet, go through Decision Tree
-When a person enters the State of Michigan DHS Home page and selects the online option MiBridges, you will see this page -Guide participants to click on “If you haven’t used a computer very much …” to get to page on the next slide
-When a person enters the State of Michigan DHS Home page and selects the online option MiBridges, you will see this page -Direct participants to click on “Community Partner Login”
-Be sure to point out that participants (and clients) are to use ACCESS buttons, NOT browser buttons to move between pages. -Answer all questions
If participants already know their agency ID, this is where they would enter it. -If they need to create an agency ID, they will need to click (near center of page) where it says, “If you would like to register your agency as a Community Partner click here)…
Participants can fill in this information now to create their Agency ID if they don’t have one
WE DO - – Facilitator will hand out Matthews Family fact sheets. Facilitator will then demonstrate how to create an account using The Matthews Family’s information. Participants should be “following along” and creating accounts as well.
A laptop with internet access should be hooked up to the data projector. Two volunteers (from the expert/strong knowledge specialist group) will pretend to be a client (Tara Test) and service provider. Together, they will fill out a FAP application for Tara.
WE DO – As participants follow along, facilitator will use Linda Test’s fact sheet to start a new FAP application.
-Participants should select “public computer” -The next screen will tell participants to select a PIN, although they will be instructed NOT to write down the PIN, participants might want/need to anyway.
-Select Food Assistance Program
-Be sure to highlight things to bring (pay stubs, benefits stubs, bills), -Have participants click on “If you’d like to see a list of the items you may want to gather before you start your application, click here”
-If participants know their Community Agency ID, they should enter it, otherwise they can use the ID number on Linda’s fact sheet. -
***Pick up here in powerpoint
-Because we cannot submit applications, participants can’t “see” this page
-Facilitator should have participants “exit & save” application
View My Case Function- Because we cannot submit applications during training, this section is theoretical. The feature entitled Create an Account includes the Check My Benefits option. This option is more than just checking on the status of what is happening to a person’s application. This feature includes a person’s benefit amount and the availability date of the benefit.
YOU DO – As facilitators & expert/strong knowledge specialists assist, Novice/Beginners will use Tara Test fact sheet to start a new SER application.
Entering Basic Information
-Participants should be instructed to “exit & save” apps

I DO - Quick Overview of MDCH Medicaid programs WE DO – Using the Matthews, facilitator will lead participants in starting a new application. Participants should “save” apps. The facilitator will review decisions YOU DO – Participants will “retrieve” the application they saved. (If time permites) Using the Martinez or Johnson Family Fact Sheets, participants will start a new application on their own.
-This presentation took a full hour in the teleconferenced training. While I have eliminated some slides, I strongly encourage the facilitator to be selective about how far to go into each slide in order to get this presentation under 30 minutes so that participants can have time to practice using the online application. -All of this information can be included in the Toolkit as Quick Reference Sheets. The goal for the training sessions is to familiarize participants with the programs enough to be able to work with the online application comfortably and that can be done without extensive review of programs. -They need to do webinar in order to get an Agency ID -
## If one of the children is a high paid model, then their high income will not negatively impact their sibling’s income, because they are not included in their sibling’s fiscal group.
##
##
-Participants should use the Bryant Family to start a new application.
-Be sure to mention contacts for agencies need to be correct and up to date (e.g. if a staff member who leaves)
*The next few slides will need to be verbally covered as we cannot submit applications.
Change names for consistency
-As long as they are storing it securely, decision letters and summary pages are good to keep, especially, if they are doing case management)
-The View My Case Function will give clients (and agencies) access to verification information. -Verbally, facilitator should delineate the verification submission process (i.e. what clients are expected to do, what agencies can and cannot help them do, what clients can expect from DHS from this point on, etc)
-Encourage agency to clarify that they are not DHS workers. -Agency can help with application -Direct/refer agencies to Toolkit for detailed post-application process & encourage them to go over process with clients
~Here is an opportunity for participants to explore enrollment barriers and share information with one another on how they function as mediators of enrollment barriers. -On large Sticky Notes, each “pod” will be asked to write down how their organization address the common Enrollment nominated by facilitators -Participants will also be asked to share how their organization is incorporating the online system into their current structure, -After 10 minutes, facilitator should ask organizations/pods to share, being sure to emphasize the information sharing & solidarity this activity incites Enrollment Barriers -Marketing -Web-based utilization (anxieties, using technical assistance) -Encouraging clients to show up for appointments
